Hello.

I’ve bought the key and registered the game. But when I was loging into the launcher, rules for US citizens popuped. Does it mean I’ve bought US version and I can’t play the game?

I’ve choosed EU server, message popuped that my world is being transfered and I had to login again. And I created character on “Ring of Fire” without problems.

What can I do? I’ll be banned for playing as EU citizen using US key? What’s the difference between EU and US versions? I just wanted to start the game and I have problems(

Greetings

It is perfectly allright to use a US key while you play on EU servers.

The only dissadvantage is that when you buy things from EU retailers you can’t use them in the game.

So to name a few examples.
a: Pre-paid gemcards bought in europe won’t work on your account (you can buy gems directly at arenanet using credit card or paypall)

b: Somewhere around the summer, Arenanet was giving away free codes to recieve a unique miniature. There was a EU-version and a US-version, and you would need the US version. Not many where given out though and its a small thingy.

c: this last is speculation. But expansion packs will likely need to be US-versions off the pack. Keep in mind that Arenanet has not announced any expansions yet, and also stated they are not sure if they will release a traditional expansion pack or release it in a more unconventional way.

I’m not sure if support can help you with changing the account to a EU-account, but if it really is important for you, you could ask.

I am curious where you got hold of a US version of the game in EU. If it was from an Authorized retailer, you could probably get an exchange. If not, be extra careful with your account. Welcome to Tyria. =)

Mercury :

From what was said, anything applied to the account as a code would require it match the base version of the game. I do believe one explicit example Gaile gave was an expansion.

Yep. If you have a NA version of the game, then you’ll need to make subsequent purchases, such as gems or upgrades, with the currency supported through the interface that is presented to you when you enter the Gem Store.

For example, someone in the US who acquired a UK version would see Pounds Sterling in the purchase interface, rather than US Dollars. It’s not difficult to make that purchase, you just do it in the “native” currency that is offered through the interface, just as you would through any other store in another country.

And just for clarity, Customer Support cannot change the version of the game but as I explained, I don’t see it as being a huge hindrance for you.
