Inappropriate name
Choose a different name.
Good question. It must be tripping the “bad word” fillter somehow although I can’t see it. The problem is, the only person who can do anything about it on this forum is Gaile and it’s Saturday. She may not post again on the forums till Monday and she might not respond to this thread. So you can either wait for her to come on and if she responds, for her to find out why and unblock it if that is appropriate or you can make a different name. Why don’t you try, Sign Of Ilusion. See if that one is available/useable.
I think the appropiate thing to do here is to make a support ticket. I personally miss any reason why it could be inapropiate. But then again, Anet can have their reasons (for example: it might be a copyright violation I don’t know about).
Support can check the reason why it is recognised as an inapropiate and provide a solution when it is a mistake.

I have never heard of a filter at name creation. Only that a name may ‘Already be in Use’.
If there was a filter at name creation, I would think we would not get so many threads about being suspended for ‘Inappropriate Name’.
I don’t think a ticket is the way to go, but rather check the message when attempting to name the character, again, carefully.
There was a filter at character creation a year ago. I remember a thread from then, a person who wanted a character with the surname Owlsdottir. It was blocked at character creation because of the letters LSD in the name.
Only problem with choosing a different name would be invalid due to the rest of my guild has Illusionist (and their name) so It kinda ruins the point and an asuran mesmer army
Illusionist Hunta maybe? Illusionist Of Sign?
Well, I just tried making a character with that name, and it does, indeed, say the name or some combination of letters in the name is inappropriate.
My bad. I would suggest, after all, creating a ticket to find out why. It does seem odd that that particular name would trigger the filter, when so many inappropriate names have not.
Ok Thank you for the Advice
If everyone else in the guild is using Illusionist + [Name], it must be something about “Sign” that’s setting it off, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what.
Nope Because I tried Illusionist and it still didnt work
That’s even more bizarre. How long ago did your guildmates make their characters? Maybe they’ve changed something since then that blocks “Illusionist”?
I played with character creation a bit. Found out it doesn’t like the name Illusion. This is obviously a bug or mistake of some sort. As others have said, you can contact support and get it straightened out.
I’m guessing here, but could the facct that ‘sion’ is a part of it be the root cause?

Could it be, coupled with “intentional misspelling”, the substring “sionist” as zionist? Only thing I can think of why Illusionist is banned.

That’s what I was thinking too. I wasn’t even sure that was offensive but it’s all I can come up with.

It was on my mind too, but it is no use to speculate on the reasons. I suspect it is a mistake, but I’m sure Gaile will read this sooner or later.

Actually, I think it’s blocked mostly because there are Mesmer Phantasms that are named “Illusionary xxxx”. So having a name that’s similar to the Mesmer skills would be confusing, thus blocked.

I really doubt this. Anet has to follow the rules in the naming proces just as anyone else. So it could only be a copyright violation, and the word illusionist is not a copyright violation.
Also, I have been doing much worse. me and some guildmates all made and leveled mesmer with an alomst simular name (I think all are gone so it should be save to name a few: ‘willow gemini, wilow gemini, willow gemimi’ The idea was (and it worked pretty good) to go into WvW and spread confusion between the clones and the real players (well more then the usual confusion created by clones). It is in my opinion a need trick, but nothing illegal bout it. a trick like you are describing is nothing different.

To tell you the truth, this isn’t something that should result in a ticket. The Word and Name Filter is set for all four supported languages, and we cover offensive words or letter combinations in many other languages, as they are reported to us. Submitting a ticket to ask why a name isn’t allowed will require time from several agents, and I would like to respectfully ask that you simply try another name and not take agents away from important issues like account access problems, crashing issues, chat violations, or a hacking/compromise incident to discuss why certain letters are not allowed, especially since those discussions can go back and forth for days .
Again, if you simply kindly would choose another name, that would be best. Thank you in advance for understanding.
