Ah so your issue is the line that asks for a character gives you an error when you leave it blank because you haven’t created one yet.
I bought Guild Wars 2 and I can not log into my account because when I put login and password to login and place, says that one of the two is wrong. I’m des afternoon trying to log in as the payment was made today. I got the key, signed up and made the new account account data is there.
- Ticket number (s): (request #22666)
- Date / time (time zone) problem started: 10/27/2013, Time I do not remember, most are already three days.
- What message / error code that you see?: “The account name or password you entered is invalid .. Check information and try again” error code 11:1001:2:1270.
- Is this a brand new account or an existing account?: New account

Ok Anet support gave me a fix that seems to be working so far (knock wood).
They suggested unchecking “remember password” and “remember account name” and manually typing in both. So far, 24 hours later, the password remains. It just means you have to type it in every day (and I’m actually typing, not copy-pasting from a saved file), but it’s a bit easier than having to reset the password each day.
Hope that works for others here too.
Will report back tomorrow and let you all know if it continues to work. After 48 hours, I suspect it will definitively prove it one way or another.

Isn’t it possible that many of the reports here that people are not getting a response from CS are due to the YAHOO mail issue?

This has nothing to do with email from Anet though and more about passwords constantly resetting. (I have yahoo email btw, and no issue getting email from anet).

Verifying that unchecking both remember username and password and manually typing it in appears to work. Same password works two days in a row now.

I now have the ‘game forgets password’ bug. I have the game set on ‘remember password’. I live alone and no one has visited my home in the last few days. It’s happened 3 times so far.
Error Message/Code: says invalid password
Problem Began (date): 11/02 or thereabouts.
New account or existing account: existing account, since beta.

Ok the solution appears to be to deselect “remember password” and “remember username” … BOTH have to be unchecked … I’m now on day three with the same password, but you have to manually type in both (not copy/paste) each time you login. Hope that helps narrow down the bug for those working on Anet’s end.

Ok the unchecking username and password worked for three days. It’s back to resetting the password again.
This is starting to become alarming. Has Anet’s database been hacked? Would greatly appreciate some transparency here — even just to let players delete their stored credit cards in game. It’s better to stomp that fire out early.

This is more an issue of my privacy now. I’m quite worried.

I’ve had to contact support a few times and so far my experience has shown they send you a password reset as the first official answer regardless of what the problem is. After the second time I contacted them back in Guild Wars 1 days, I specifically said first off, DONT RESET MY PASSWORD the 3rd time I contacted them but they did anyway so I wasn’t astonished when they did it this time also.
As to the privacy concerns you express, I doubt it. It’s just an annoying bug that’s ‘hitting some accounts. There isn’t any reason to think ANet has been hacked. If they were, they would be stealing your account and the items in it, not resetting your password but otherwise doing nothing.

Ah Astral, thanks for that. I’ve had a heck of a year with this particular MMO (someone actively used my IP address as proxy for months (long story, I had zero clue), and now I’m a bit paranoid, lol. Not healthy to feel that way). And you’re right, the password seems to be the only affected, nothing else. That makes me feel better

This is the emailed instructions they have just sent me to try to fix the problem.
“I would like for you to try repairing your Guild Wars 2 installation:
First:
Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the “R” key.
Paste in the following line: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
Click “OK.”
Delete the local.dat file located here.
Next:
Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end. Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes -- Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair -- Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”
Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes. If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 5 again.
Right-click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” and select “Run as Administrator.”
Allow the repair to run and once completed, right-click" “GW2.exe” or your Guild Wars 2 Shortcut and select “Run as Administrator.”
Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again".

Yah. Wasn’t real hopefully about it. You might try updating your ticket saying you tried this and see if they can suggest something else.

Well, I learned that I could not merge and have my post at the start, which was my intention. So here’s the scoop:
Situation: Player is unable to log in to the game, usually getting an Error 11, but sometime receiving another error code.
First, a question:
Are you using your e-mail address as your log-in name? Not display name, not character name, but your e-mail address as your Account Name?
If so, and if you cannot log in, please provide:
- Ticket Number(s)
- Date/time (time zone) issue started
- What message/error code do you see?
- Is this a brand new account or an existing account?

Yes, I am using my email address associated with this account. I’ve tried unchecking the boxes as recommended in this thread.

- Date/time (time zone) issue started: Sometime in the past week (I have build 25625), noticed it today when trying to log in to complete the Tower of Nightmares meta-achievement tonight (11.11) just before 7PM PST.

I think we finally figured it out.
Anyone complaining of password resetting, do you use a tablet or other device to log into the forums, outside of your main PC?
It appears every time I log into the forums using my iPad, it resets the password. The issue is logging in from a device outside your main gaming PC. Tested it out three times this morning and the following would happen:
+reset password
+ log into forum on PC, works fine
+ log into game with reset password, works fine
+ log into forum with my iPad, password works fine .. until I log out with my iPad. Then password resets/doesn’t work anymore.
It appears the iPad won’t auto log you out either with a new password change, but lets you browse and post freely with the old password, as long as you don’t log out. And it will keep you “on” the forum infinitely until you do log out.
Have updated my ticket with this information/experiment this morning. Not 100% sure if this is the culprit, but it appears to be since I could replicate it three times in a row.
Hope that helps others out there having the same issue. If you are, try logging out of the forums on any other device you are using outside of your gaming pc …. including tablets and phones. Then try again. Your password should remain active as long as you don’t log into any other devices like your phone/tablet. If you do (until they investigate this), you’ll have to go through the same reset password daily thing.

Update:
It appears the password “reset” has something to do with Apple’s upgrade to “remember passwords” on your ipad and iphone (not sure about android devices). Once you remove that ability in the ipad’s settings and delete all the saved passwords, manually typing in the username and password for the forum does NOT affect the game login.
So it’s something in apple’s update that saved passwords (when was that? early september) and anet’s code. The two apparently don’t like each other much

Ah ha! In my updated ticket I mentioned that I’d logged into this forum in the morning on my ipad and all was well, tried to login on the ipad later on to reply to posts and got the “invalid username / password” message despite my game pc not having been on that day.
Sure enough this caused the account recovery scenario once I tried to login to the game!!
So there is something to your “evil apple” (joke) theory!
Though I have been using the ipad on the forum for some while and the problem has only recently started occurring.
It also means I’ll probably have to reset my password when I go to play later agghhh!

Hmmm. I use my iPad to access the forum but I don’t have saved passwords. I type the forum login manually. So far the game has forgotten the password 3 times. I did notice it was always the game first and then the forum would have problems if I logged out of it and then logged back in. I don’t normally log out of the forum but rather let the login expire by itself.
The repair they sent me seems to have worked though. It’s been 6 days since I did a repair on the target line and haven’t had the password problem since then.

Brand spanking new.
I got a response to my ticket, y’all reset my password, sometime last night while I was asleep. I reset the password, and I was able to log into the website once. Tried to log into the game (again using my email) and it said it was wrong. I was still logged into the website this time, so I figured I’d reset my password. I got no errors or anything, so tried that password and still didn’t work.
I have no idea what I’m doing wrong, I just want to play the game I just bought.

Yeah I’ve been using my ipad on the forums for at least six months now. I think what happened was remember back in (September/October?) Apple did a big update and you could suddenly save your passwords on the ipad (you couldn’t do that before). I started having issues around Oct. 10, not sure when that apple update was .. I think the combination with some changes on Anet’s end wound up creating a conflict in the coding.
At least a solution is near. Support was creating a file for presentation Tuesday, so hopefully they will find a way to make it work (crossing fingers).
And at least you can turn off your “remember password” in your ipad’s settings and never have to do the whole reset dance again. Just means you have to type it in manually on your ipad every time, but it’s better (at least for me) than having to reset the kitten thing every day and worry that my account was compromised

If it’s a bug with iPad, what do you expect them to do? Call up that company and tell them to fix it pronto? Maybe offer for ANet to get into that companies data and fix the bug themself?
A bug with iPad is not their problem. It’s up to the owners of the iPads to contact the company and let them know their product has a bug.

This game forgets password’ bug does in part seem to be linked to the iPad with the IOS 7.0.2.
I normally access the forum on my new iPad and about 5 weeks ago, after I updated my iPad to the new iOS, the game started occasionally forgetting the password. I did a repair and it stopped for about a month then it came back and the game was forgetting the password every day. Repaired the game, didn’t work. I switched to an old iPad I have with an old iOS and used it to access the forum and the problem stopped. After 6 days I forgot and accessed the forum with my new iPad and the game promptly forgot the password again.
Unfortunately, turning off the ‘remember password’ on the iPad doesn’t seem to stop the bug.
