Yesterday evening I logged in as normal. Was planing on running the second dungeon with my friend. But I was kicked out thanks to a networking error. (or that’s what it said at least)

It have happend a couple of times before. So no biggie. Tried to login again and Baam! “your account have been permanently suspended”

I submitted a ticket (120904-009218) and did some other useful things instead.

The thing is that I can’t really figure out why. Sure I can admit to “spamming” 3 identical messages in chat when we where looking for our last member to catacombs of ascalon.
And I can admit to running the same DE twice in a row. (thou I thought the reset was because we failed)
And I admit to following a guide to speed up my crafting progression.

Other than that I can’t find a reason. And to me none of those reasons are enough to get permabanned, right?

My biggest problem right now is that I have a signed collectors edition sitting in my bookshelf that reminds me of the problem every time I enter or exit my computer room.

I would simply know what happened.

Best of luck Nightingale, it seems that this is pretty common- people are being permabanned with no explanation other than “you may have been hacked”. It’s really not on and I’m incredibly disappointed with the way in which this is being dealt with (or not).

They best stop banning people for no reason, gives the game a bad reputation

hi, i have the same problem, I have been banned for no reason. I tried to connact them but no answer for 2 days now.

my account was set up as babylon.1645 but as you can see is now set to babylon.1647 and has been moved to a north american server.nice to see that i have been banned through no fault of my own but that someone else is logged in and enjoying my game.

I have got the same problem, i have done nothing wrong just playing the game for a few days without even doing something that was’nt allowed and just now my account has been permanently banned for violation of code of conduct/user agreement. i don’t get it at all.

For me it’s impossible to be a name problem, also if it was a name problem i highly doubt they would permaban me. I also have no unauthorized logins, wasn’t hacked or any other problems. I just got randomly permabanned. Seems to be alot of that going on now..

Same thing has happened to me, was playing perfectly fine last night and when I come to log in this morning my account has been Permanently Banned for no reason. No explanation…nothing just “Your account has been Permanently Banned” Ive not violated the User agreement in any shape or form so I’m hoping this is just a mistake on their side…since Ive done nothing haha

Also, your account might have been attacked by a goldseller, and ArenaNet have banned it for secure reasons. Write a ticket to support and they will fix it.

Now, i’m not saying that any of you have been badmen in chat, got offensive names, or your account is being targeted by gold sellers, but it’s been too many ‘banned for no reason’ and there actually is a reason.

U sir, are wrong. i haven’t done anything to violate any terms and still got banned. My account has not moved servers nor has the code after my name changed. No unauthorized acces of anyone (i can see all the ip adresses of logins and they were all mine) so tell me, what’s not random about this?

I’m glad Arenanet is policing their game, about time a MMO company did and not let people run wild.

Also, i have written 3 lines of text so far about how to get to a vista, so it couldnt be about my writing.

what ever the supposed reason is the fact remains that i have not been told why my account has been banned.
people with offensive names have had their accounts suspended not banned and have been informed of such and while i am happy that you can continue to enjoy the game kezorian i can not through no fault of my own.lets hope you do not find yourself in the same situation in the future.

I do admit to having two characters that might be cocidered offensive:
Tearharvester – pvp focused with maybe 5h of playtime (I got the inspiration from massiveley speaking I think)
And
zodiac chimera – this name might be very offensive if you think about it. But this character I only ran the tutorial with. (I also planned on deleting it because I didn’t like the name)

Other names are as follows:
Timid nightingale
Emperor penguin
Flarn

Thou I don’t think any of those make me a target of a permaban (I have seen much worse ingame, and heard of people getting 72h for names I personally felt offended by)

Other things I might be judged by is speaking Swedish in partychat with other Swedish people.
And I politely asked a person to refrain from using Swedish in map-chat. (not realizing I was in overflow)

I have tried to remember more things that. Could be reasons enough, and will continue to reflect on things…. But that is everything I have right now.

Yeah ive been hacked definetly, been talking to my guild members on teamspeak and they said i was online when i wasnt with a character ive not made on a different server, been through all the support stuff and changed my password loads of times but still saying im banned or invalid password

Update.

I 3-5 min ago logged in to my “account.guildwa…” address.
Because a friend told me to show him that I could still access that page even thou my account is banned…
This is the first time I have recived an authicention email. Ever. (even thou I have logged in from at least 4 locations and 4g)
So I’m right now wondering if I somehow have gotten myself placed into some watched category by logging in from all these different IP:s

Side note: I think it’s somewhat interesting that your forum login is still viable even thou your game account have been banned.

Think about it. The bans serve a purpose. Yes it takes days to get the account back, but at least in the meantime you know that the person who stole your account isn’t still using it. It would be much worse if ArenaNet didn’t give a rat’s —- and let anyone take your account and use it at any time.

In the meantime, come up with a stronger password and make sure it’s one you don’t use anywhere else. Ideally also use a new email address. They are still free.

And they have done neither of these things. Accounts are banned after the damage is done and characters are cleaned out or deleted and then they don’t provide updates on what is going on. Well I mean other than the update on the wiki that has yet to be correct.

They will give up updates eventually. There are a lot of people who choose to use the same email address and password for GW2 as they use for other sites or services or games. Once the login credentials are compromised elsewhere, the GW2 account can be stolen. It seems a lot of GW2 players are the type to use the same login credentials at multiple places, which means there are lot of tickets to go through. Each one takes time to process.

As for accounts being banned AFTER the damage is done, this is not always the case. It depends on how much the person who stole the account gets done before the ban is applied. In any case, a ban to prevent further misuse of the account is better than no ban at all.

My password is gw2 exclusive.
And my mail requires a second stage verification trough my iPhone. So getting a new mail won’t be necessary.

But I will ask around and see if any of my guildies/friends have seen me online when I shouldn’t be.

Well yes they told me my account was recovered and good to go but it was still banned. The daily updates are still wrong even if they are general and for the entire community. Just because you mass distribute wrong information does not make it right.

Maybe you had a program running in the background that gave the game’s hack detection a false positive? Does this game even have hack detection? Maybe you bought a karma item that had an incorrect price on it? I heard people are getting banned over that too..

There is no guarantee that even if you talk to support that you’ll get your account back, from what I’ve heard of others who were banned for unjust reasons.

My best advice is to make a big fuss about the unjust ban. Anet seems acutely aware of their press, especially on social media sites. They may ignore your twitter questions if you have less than 4k followers, but if you give them some bad press, maybe they will take the time to help you.

There are plenty of players who would knowingly abuse an exploit and then come here sand say they have been banned for no reason.

I have seen it in other games, where players have knowingly abused an exploit and then come to the forums and complained about it after they had their account either suspended or rolled back for doing so, saying they did nothing wrong.

As for Anet banning players without telling them why.
I find it hard to believe they would do that, but if they do it then there is something very wrong here.

And if some of the posts, but here and on reddit, are to be believed, then it sounds to me like they are banning people at random for no reason at all which I find very hard to believe.

I dont know what their reasons for doing so are, but if the ban a player it has to be for a good reason and at the very least the player in question should be informed about this and be given a chance to have their say in the matter.

This whole banning business sound very dubious to me and I get the impression they are far to quick to use the ban hammer.
Not saying they should not do it when the situation warrants it, but right now it seems they are far too quick to use it

Perma banned for no reason. No reason shows up when I try and log on. Perma ban happened when I got hacked. No resolution and no response to the multiple tickets I placed. Multiple because I have gone through two different efforts at prioritizing tickets.

I don’t know what your gaming experience is; nor do I care for what other communities you have been in to determine your said familiarity on this subject. As far as I know, that is all hearsay and uncredited. Sorry, but my point still stands. Over 50 posts on unwarranted account bans I will dare say that 10% in those are really unwarranted. Maybe you have not played GW1, but after that experience with Anet. Anything is possible.

Yeah, whilst I understand that they’re presumably swamped, the lack of any meaningful communication makes it feel like they’re really not interested in individual cases. Mods locking down threads without providing helpful or meaningful input isn’t helping with that feeling. Oh well, best of luck folks, such a shame.

I used to work for a large tech company that used authenticators. Employees still gave out their credentials to phishing sites, including authenticator numbers. The data went to the phishers who then immediately signed in and had internal access to company data.

Authenticators don’t prevent people from giving away their login info.

They would prevent the rest of us who got hacked via brute force.

If your password is complex enough, brute force isn’t an issue.

Totally untrue. By not locking down multiple wrong attempts at logging into an account a hacker can go to town with thousands of attempts. Eventually every password fails.

If a password is secure enough, it will take YEARS, often longer than a person’s lifespan, to crack it, unless the RMT gang is using massive clusters of computing resoures (not likely, or they’d be doing other things with their time besides trying to hack into mmo accounts).

Gonna do an amendment of my previous post as I seem to have caused some confusion here.

It was not my intention to say that these posts are not real or that its not happening.
What I was trying to say was that even though it may only be a very small percentage of the total number of issues, I would not put it past some players to actually do what I said.

I did actually play GW1, though it was long ago.
But that dont mean its not a possibility that some players might actually feign innocence despite being guilty.

I do agree that the problem is far too widespread for this to be of any significance, but to say that its not happening is just being naive.

GW2 is brand new, and similar enough to many other MMOs that many players who are tired of those other games have come here, taking with them their bad and even unwanted habits from those other games.

I got an authenticator for WoW I haven’t been hacked since. I know there are ways around them but I say it’s much more security.

IMO authenticators should have been included to purchasers of the CE…

Before anything else i want to say i havent been banned.

Perma ban annoys me… and did someone say they ran a DE multiple times? is DE dynamic event and can we not do that because that would be silly as they are so obviously repeating in our game… Also i accidentally types something in chat 3 times, didnt think it was working but apparently i was on my guild chat tab and didnt realise =s.. but are these things banable offenses because if they are its a joke.

Besides, I dont think they have the right to ban anyone until the game is fixed anyway. I constantly see dynamic events stuck because the npc wont move or is invulnerable for a ridiculous amount of time. The shop doesnt work, the story didnt work… still getting ridiculous lag in WvW. Lets be honest they released an incomplete game.
