Profanity Filter — Specifies the amount of profanity to filter in chat and other communications.

I was recently suspended for using “inappropriate language”. Please read my message sent to support below.

Hi, I was recently trying to log into my Guild Wars 2 account but received a temporary suspension for “inappropriate language”. After reviewing the rules of conduct I have discovered that the reasons in which I have been suspended are justified, yet the guidelines are contradicted withing the game itself. I pose this problem to the support staff. When initially starting the game, I had selected a setting so that inappropriate language would NOT be filtered. Now, whenever I have happened to use inappropriate language we can acknowledge that because of this setting, only people who willingly choose to see the language will in fact see it. Given that most people do not read the rules of conduct before playing a game, having an option to not filter profanity makes it seem very clear that profanity is allowed and readily available, so far as the user has decided they can be mature enough to handle it. Now knowing that foul language is NOT allowed in the game, I fail to see why there should be an option to show it. This is misleading and my suspension due to profanity seems misguided. I hope to be able to log back into my account ASAP so I can inform my peers that profanity does not fly in Tyria.

I think u are totally right why is the profanity filter there? if u cannot curse, one thing is to make racist comments of insulting some player directly and a totally different one is just to random curse on chat. They should just get rid of the profanity filter then. I think profanity should be allowed at all times cuz most of the ppl who play this game are 18+ and if u are not u can chose to enable the profanity fillter as easy as that.

there are people who are uptight or who dont want themselves of their kids who they let play this game to see that kind of language…..as if its going to harm them…..

Whats really sad is, the first MMO EVER had a word filter, and the user could edit it, I know, I use to help run a few servers for UO, and one of the first things everybody did was disable the stupid word filter……

I have played games where you couldnt say “damage” because it had the word “dam” i it…(not kidding)….

StarTrekOnline has a silly word filter that dosnt allow some words but other words for the same thing, are perfectly fine…..

Honestly, we use to make a game of finding words some korean games would block for whatever reason…..then people would make up lists to email them for words that shouldnt be blocked….lol….

yeah My view is, they should put a filter system in that you can fully disable, but in doing so you loose the right to complain about anything but racism and sexist type hates speach, give the enabled filter various levels from “mild” where it just cuts out the most common blatant sware/curse words, to a high where it filters any word hat could offend anybody(so just disables chat :P )

I can offend somebody without ever using an unacceptable or inappropriate word, Language is a funny thing, if you know enough about it, you know words only have true meaning in context….even words that offend people only have meaning incontext…..

Be civil. Don’t cuss in public. Solves the issue.
