Time to get worried?
Not sure about the GW1 thing, but as for the GW2 thing, due to security measures, they want everyone to change their passwords to make sure people with password databases can’t hack in to their account. It’s just for an extra level of security, since they don’t know if people have or haven’t changed their passwords.
More information on it can be found here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/
Ty, i do understand the need of a good security, but this doesnt really answer my question:
Why do i see that text on one account and not on both accounts?
Did you change the password on one account? I know that reset it for some people so they never got the announcement. Did they share the same password? If they did, then you getting it on only one is really really strange. Had anyone outside of you tried to access one account but not the other? That might have something to do with it?
I’m not sure exactly what the idea behind it was, primarily because I never got the message myself. It might have been due to certain password strengths or perhaps history with that email.
Aha! Here we go. I knew one of the ANet people had said something on it earlier.
This is simply a precautionary measure; since, as you stated, you changed your password before the blacklist came into effect, there is a chance that it is already on the blacklist as a known vulnerable password. In this particular case, that sounds exceedingly unlikely, since you used what seems like a strong password selection method.
Here’s the wrinkle: we can’t see your password (which is good for everyone). We have no way to find out how long it is, how complex it is, or anything else about it. All we know is the last date and time at which you changed your password.
This message simply checks that date/time, and compares it to the effective date of the password blacklist. If your last password change was prior to blacklisting coming into effect, you might see this message.
It’s only a suggestion, but if you have any concerns whatsoever about your password, we recommend changing it to be safe. The blacklist will ensure that nobody else knows that password (assuming you don’t use it anywhere else on the internet/etc.).
So might of just been random chance and a specific password that the blacklist wasn’t happy with.

We’re encouraging everyone to change his/her password. You can read some interesting info in Mike O’Brien’s security article, linked above.

yea Gaile and why do you all of the sudden encouraging us to do that ? your DB got hacked ? or something ?
what what what….
@Busko: Not theirs, but other game’s or forum’s DB got hacked. Some users use their adresses and passwords over and over again. The bad guys are trying these corrupted data on any new game. GW2 is the newest kid in town. If a user used such a stolen info on GW too, chances are very high he might loose his account.
Read the article from Mike O’Brien. It says – among other things – that an unique address and an unique password to be used on valuable things in the WWW is the best protection. I’ve got it and I did it. That’s no 100%, but that is impossible to get.
@GODh: Any linked GW1-account will be changed too, when you change the corresponding GW2-account.
I was glad about it, because my old GW1-Account-address was not available to me anymore. Thus I was able to update it.
That article is way old also why the hell do games insist on use EMAIL as user name and then they come and say its unsafe… when they them self do it. I wont make a new email for each game i play thats just stupid.
Also it don’t answer my question or the guy that made this post. Its something that poped up for me TODAY and if something like that pops up all of the sudden it raises warning flags for me.
what what what….
Your question was answered. This just popped up for me today as well. It’s just a matter of time before you get the password notice. It’s not as if you’re being hacked at the current.
ArenaNet should provide Account Authenticators for us to purchase. The security issues are a problem overall on ArenaNet’s end vs. ours. Constantly asking us to change our passwords is just absurd.
