Q:

There are two players that continually tell others in the game to report me for botting. Each time they see me in the game they tell map chat to report me for something I am not doing.

I hate botters but don’t quite understand why these two players want others to report me. I’ve never botted in my life and have played MMORPGs since Everquest March 16, 1999.

Do I open a trouble ticket against these two? Do I report them for verbal abuse?

Please don’t suggest I ignore them because that doesn’t work with Guild Wars 2 support. I already know that there is some system in place that works off of the number of reports and not whether someone is doing something wrong.

I would like to know what I can do to stop this behavior.

Have you ever talked to them? Maybe they think you are actually a bot.

If this was happening to me, I would speak to them. If they admit they are just trying to get me in trouble, I would calmly and rationally (important!) ask them to stop. Get them to say they won’t and get them to say they are just trying to get me in trouble. Screenshot this. Then I would tell them I have the screenshot and tell them if they do it again, I will report them (for verbal abuse, best of choices available). I would not speak to them again, no matter what they say. Talking to them again will very likely get you in trouble for saying something unwise. If they bothered me again, I would then report them.

I have whispered them directly and they proceeded to /map chat again telling everyone that I’m now crying to them. I’ve also used map chat to let everyone know I’m not doing what they say I’m doing. That was yesterday. Then today they did the same thing asking everyone to report me while I was waiting for the maw event. There are two of them and they know I’m not actually a bot. At one time they even said in map chat that I wasn’t yesterday. I’ve got full screenshots of all chat activity.

I figured verbal abuse was the best choice but they only used bad language yesterday and I reported them for it then. Today they just told everyone I was a bot.

So if someone says I’m a bot and I’m not and I’ve tried reasoning with them and they continue on about it, you’re suggesting that I just report them for verbal abuse and that should take care of it? Verbal abuse doesn’t just mean bad language then?

You can submit a ticket to Customer Support, with screenshots attached, and report them for harassment. You do not need to only use the in-game reporting tool. It is clearly stated in the ToS that harassment is against the rules. Good luck. =)

I agree with what the previous poster said and would just like to add that reports get looked at and investigated individually regardless of number of reports, as far as I understand, so the chances of you actually being suspended for botting if you are not are very slim.

Yah, if you go thru customer support rather than in game reporting then you would use harassment. That would be a better option than verbal abuse. Thoough you can do both if they use bad language also. Good luck. Send in the screenshot and my guess is they will get a suspension. Then they can come crying to Account Issues about how they were unfairly banned. Lol.

As said, open a support ticket and post screenshots, but don’t stop there, every time you see them do this kitten again update the ticket with screenshots. If anet support closes the ticket (cause they can’t be bothered to resolve issues) re-open it, tell them it isn’t resolved and continue to update it.

And don’t worry, they can say what they want, even if 20 000 people report you, it will be checked by an actual person. So it is not the amount of reports that count. So they prevent this kind of behavior. Just contact the support, and see how they get suspended

I had a similar issue in another MMO where I played a rogue with perma-stealth on a PvP server.

I was following a friendly player (in stealth) hoping to gank an enemy rogue prowling the area. A chest spawned right in front of me and I opened it and restealthed. The “friendly” player went ballistic and started accusing me of being a hacker in tells and on map chat. Who knows what goes on in these people’s heads.

Anyway, I just reported him for harassing me and never responded (but I did watch him get ganked and did nothing). I’m sure nothing happened to him, other MMOs generally don’t care about player behavior unless it’s costing them money. That’s what separates GW2 from the rest.

The most important thing for you to know, to set your mind at ease, is that the agents don’t take action based solely on reports. If someone is submitting false reports, it’s far more likely that s/he will be actioned than that you will. If you find yourself with an undeserved suspension, contact Support and they will help sort it out.

Basically: No one can “grief” someone else through support, and trying to do so will put their account in jeopardy, and not their intended victim.
