Appearance bugs in Charr females
“Short end of the stick.” is a phrase charr fans have become accustomed to, really.
I’m playing the game solely because I find the charr an interesting race, which no other game has. But ArenaNet’s attitude of disinterest is honestly leaving me disinterested. I feel like I’ve been conned a bit, really, with all the supposed attention to the charr and then… well, it just so amazingly lazy.
It’s depressing, too. You’d expect better from them, being an arthouse dev, but this… this is sub-WoW standards. I just expect better. Meh. Maybe Guild Wars 2 isn’t ‘that MMORPG’ after all, and one will come along that will actually bother to do a beast race right.
I’ll keep playing for now. But they’ve killed my enthusiasm so much that I can’t really find the will to put out any more money on the game.
Since this thread is here I might as well add to the list of broken.
This is a screen shot of my charr standing still and not moving. In this picture everything is normal.

In this picture is my charr moving forward with weapons drawn. Most weapons will float in mid air in front of my hand while moving forward. This happens with every 1 handed weapon in the right hand. This does not happen in the left hand. However, the sword that I am showing (Legionnaire Sword) in this picture is actually large enough that a small part of the hilt is still in my hand. With most other 1 handed weapons though, they actually come completely out of my hand and float there. This problem does not occur when standing still, moving backwards or sideways, jumping, or swimming. Only when running forwards or forwards diagonally.

Now lets go underwater. I have not tested this with all female charr faces, but so far I have only seen this happen with the current face type shown. As you can see, the aqua breather is positioned much too high up on the face. It only covers the top of the muzzle leaving the lower jaw completely uncovered. From the rear angle (middle picture) you can also see that it is clearly not suppose to be this high up on the face.

Now I will be completely honest with you guys. I mean no disrespect and I don’t say this as an insult, but I noticed the very first day I played the game, and as for the aqua breather, I noticed that immediately the very first time I dove under water. I cannot see how any of this got past QA. I know graphical errors are typically considered low on the totem pole of bug fixes, but I seriously hope you get someone from the art team to fix this ASAP.
I really care about how my character looks, and the longer these bugs stay bugs, the more and more I become aggravated with this game. I really want to love this game, but some of these issues stick out like a sore thumb, and I cannot fathom how anyone from your QA team can miss these things.
EDIT: Well apparently the [img]urlgoeshere[/img] tag doesn’t work like it says it should so I’ll just go ahead and directly upload the images in their proper order.. First image is normal. Second image is moving forward which causes the main hand weapon to float. Third image is showing the aqua breather misplacement. Also, for whatever reason, photobucket keeps resizing my images. The images I uploaded directly to these forums are bigger and easier to see the problem with.
EDIT: I found more information regarding this issue. Read my post below for more details.

Oh, and one more thing I neglected to bring up. The top set of ears on charr females stick straight up at a 90 degree angle when swimming forward.

Hmm, maybe better transfer this topic to >Game Bugs?
Hi everyone.
We proceed to move this to Game Bugs, yes, because that is the kind of subforum for this kind of incidences. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
I’ve posted this before, but it still isn’t fixed. I don’t know if this happens with all colors or what the specific combination of things are that cause this, but my Charr’s chin and lip have a really visible, horrible seam.
I hate to have to say it, but.. come on. I’m a complete amateur at texture mapping and 3D and I could fix that texture seam in literally two minutes. I know graphical bugs aren’t high priority, but this just reflects really terribly on the artists. I work as an artist, too. If I made a mistake like this, my employer would be all over my backside to fix it immediately.
wow. you guys need to just report this stuff and move on. being so anally retentive like this on a brand new game shows the kind of extremely vain people that came here from wc and expect the same perfect graphics from a 1mo old game as those on a 10yr old one. calm down, go sit down and play.
for some of these things, the aqua breather can be explained, tho i dont know if they intended this or not: i have an 80 charr. dont know if you noticed but they rarely close their mouths all the way. so, open your mouth and move your toungue to close off breathing from your mouth. works fine thru your nose right? ok, maybe thats what charr are doing with the aqua breather, its sealed on their nose, and they created everything from submarines to tanks and charrzookas etc, maybe they are smart enough to know not to breath thru their mouths while under water. sheesh.

Nah, bro. The mouth doesn’t even move when underwater. If you even bothered to look at the third picture (second picture in the third picture) you’ll notice there is a huge gap between the muzzle and the top of the aqua breather. This isn’t the only charr character I have. As I said, I haven’t used every face, but the face shown is the only one that I have seen where this happens, and it happens every single time you go into the water.
As far as the rest of your post, this isn’t my first MMO. Graphical stuff like this rarely ever gets fixed unless you make a huge fuss over it. Not to mention that some of these problems are so noticeable that it would taken 2 seconds of QA testing to have seen them. This is extremely amateur work.
As an example, the busted night elf druid cat form leg after they revamped their textures. Its been years since I played WoW, but even as late as a year after that update they still hadn’t fixed it. As far as I know they still have that busted leg even today. You have to get on them about it if you ever want them to fix something like this, or it will never get fixed at all.

So sad, such trifles really spoil the fun in game, where the appearance of character is the main focus at high lvl :/

This is exactly how I feel. As I mentioned with the night elf druid cat form model from WoW, the aggravation built up so much that I became disgusted with my character and didn’t want to play it any more. Blizzard refused to even acknowledge the issue. Like I said, no idea if they ever fixed it, but for such an obvious issue to remain unfixed for so long was awful. I’m not going to say that it was the sole reason I quit playing WoW, but it was definitely one of my top 5 reasons.
Ah, the everpresent floating shoulderpads.
I think I figured out why this is happening. In beta and during launch, my very first character used this face. However, I made both the beta and the initial launch characters smaller on the height scale.
Made a new character (engineer) yesterday using the same face as my first character, and after jumping in the water today, I see this. The only difference between my first character and my other two characters, other than the face, is that I adjusted the height scale down on my first character (the Siamese looking charr in the bottom two pics). With my engineer and warrior I left them at the default height scale at character creation. So my beta and first character were both smaller than the engineer and warrior size wise.
After compiling the screenshots together I noticed right away that the aqua breather stays the same size regardless of the size of the model. On the Siamese charr the aqua breather looks bigger, but on the other two (normal height size) it looks smaller. The aqua breather is still the same size physically in the game though. Its just not adjusting the size of the aqua breather to the height size of the model.
I hope this additional information helps you guys fix this problem soon.

Thanks for the detailed reports! The screenshots and names of equipment you’re wearing really help us track these bugs down. The good news is that I believe a large number of these bugs have already been reported here and documented for investigation. While we’ll look through these bugs as well to confirm this, please list all other art/armor issues in the linked thread. I’ll be closing this thread to keep these issues consolidated.
