Wasn’t really able to find an appropriate option to submit the option for Guild Mission related bugs, that and screening it afterwards didn’t seem to be much help. Knowing what options for future mission bugs would be nice too.

Anyways, me and my Guild encountered a rather crippling bug just a few moments ago regarding this mission.
We swam through the enemy Oasis to be ready for collecting power cores rather patiently, having waited a good while for it to start.

After killing two Saurians we did what we always did and started the mission before turning them in. Immediately I should have feared the worst when I noticed that upon immediately starting, the objective instantly went to 3 / 3. (See screenshot) We hadn’t turned any in yet upon launch.

We near the end of the timer and close to finishing the event, still no credit. My guild member decides to put in the last core. Nothing.
Time expires and stays at 0s remaining for about 2 minutes.

Mission failed.

Baffled, we couldn’t figure out why. For experimentation I started the mission again when we left, again, instantly 3 / 3.
Making it impossible to complete.

Being a small guild, WvW Challenge and Bounty are one of the few missions we can do easily without many members on.
330 points isn’t alot sure, but it sucks when you don’t get it.

I would like to add this has been happening for weeks, does the same rank, capture and the os jumping puzzle one. They all break at somepoint in the week.

Thank you for the report and all the nice information! Also, if you don’t mind me inquiring to verify: your guild ran that mission today? The screenshot you provided suggests a different mission rotation, so I want to be sure as we investigate.

I submitted this report moments after the bug became verified, so yeah it was today.
In fact, we finished slightly before the new patch was released as well.

I do know that different Guilds have different missions I found. A few Guilds I follow do not have the same as my others. Not sure if that plays into it, but we’ve never had an issue prior with the WvW Challenge up until this point.

Concerning the Guild Challenge Mission for the Oasis:
I spoke today with folks involved with WvW and I’ve been told that we’ve removed the Oasis Event from WvW as of today’s release. Along with this, the WvW team has removed the WvW Guild Challenge Mission with the Oasis Event and caused the guild missions to reset.

Once members of the guild have picked up the new build, the guild missions should not include the Guild Challenge Mission for the Oasis. If the mission is still there after everyone has grabbed our most recent build (patch/release), please let us know and I’ll talk to the team again to see if something has gone astray.

Might want to have such reflected in the patch notes as well in case some get confused by its disappearance.

Me and my group have tried to do the WvW Opportunity: Rank (10 000) half an hour ago but it turned out to be impossible to complete – the mission jumps to the maximum immediatelly after activating and can’t be completed. After the time is up it simply states that the mission has been failed.

We’re a no-preference guild and most of our missions got changed after the patch so a bug might have somehow slipped through.

I’m not sure if this is the main reason why but I am hoping it is. Since the launch of HoT most people who WvW on a regular basis had no particular like for the Oasis event and in fact hated it. This was because any time the event triggered it caused the entire map to have horrid lag, no matter where you were. There was already a distaste for this big PvE event in the middle of a WvW map and then couple it with the lag. More often than not instead of encouraging fights (which I THINK might have been what the intention was behind this event) it caused people to avoid fighting and instead just wait it out until some server finished it so you could actually start playing again without the crippling lag.

I am super happy to see it gone! Best update today and it wasn’t even in the patch notes.

Yes, thank you for punishing the players that want and enjoy broken Tyrian PvE as a part of WvW. They deserved it, and WvW could use a lot more attention of exactly that nature.

The less PvE-style “contribution” in WvW, the better.

I apologize to you all that these changes didn’t make it into the notes so you all might have prepared yourselves a bit. I’ve gathered a little more information for you that hopefully will explain a little more about the decisions.

It has been explained to me that up till today that players in WvW encountered consistently poor performance issues when the Oasis event would run on the maps. Our server team tried several potential solutions in an attempt to stabilize this, as did the WvW team with content adjustments – but neither side was able to stabilize performance with the things they implemented. We have been attempting adjustments every few weeks, and with each attempt the performance was not improved.

Rather than making many players suffer longer under the performance issues while we continue to look for a fix that works, the decision was made as a team to disable the event. And as the guild mission was tied to this event and had been experiencing issues, we took it out of the rotations till both our teams (WvW and Guilds) can see to it being fixed. I cannot offer an eta for a fix at this time.

From the Guilds team, we currently have no plans to pull additional WvW missions. And we’re still actively investigating issues and looking into potential (and stable) fixes for all our mission (and reward) issues. Thank you again everyone and may the rest of your day and week be filled with relaxation and/or the slaughtering of your enemies.

You should have taken this opportunity to claim the WvW team is doing work (haha, lol) and has listened to community feedback to remove the event, not simply removed it as a bug fix.

Aside from the performance issues, it seems players are 50/50 about the Oasis event due to its nature to either help a world snowball or get a comeback, while also being fun as-is with great visuals and audio, which is why I like it. I’m glad it’s supposedly only temporarily disabled.

Thanks for taking this out, as its one of the main requests a lot of people have. The event imo should have had a 4 map announcement and been more spaced out imo. Yeah also it lagged like crazy sometimes.

Please, please, please if that means they’re working on fixing and re-releasing the Oasis event, ask them to reconsider that. Rather than working on and potentially wasting time on this feature that the majority of the players seem to loathe, ask them to instead focus on other aspects of the game mode.

The lag issue was only half the problem with the event, it offered nothing fun or good to the game mode.

Various of us in Gunnars got used to the oasis event. We started to inform our fellow gunnars about the event if it was up anywhere. We even had many of our commanders seeing the importance of it.

We did see various enemy servers also going for it often, this made way less pve then the PvDooring groups can do at times. Yes, fighting enemies during the event is legit as well as killing an enemy and steal their core.

Would you mind asking them for an explanation on what the heck dinosaurs, pve events, power cores that drop from dinosaurs, and lasers have to do with each other, or how any of it is relevant to WvW? Makes as much sense as hatching dogs from eggs in fire keep…

That being said, this event can stay dead.

Any chances you stop looking for a fix and leave it disabled? PvE events, dinosaurs dopping power cores and mega lasers, like other crap you added with HoT, really do not fit into WvWvW…

Please. PLEASE. Read the comments – no one (or at least, very few people) want that awful PVE event AT ALL. Don’t fix it…remove it. There…problem solved. And you don’t need to spend more dev time on it (and money). It’s removed. Good riddance. Now fix all the other issues with WvW and quit wasting time on attempting to repair something that was a bad idea to begin with.

You saw enemy servers on a BL, and even attempting the Oasis event? Wow. Lucky you. I think I saw a single ranger trying to solo it once on our BL. That was the ONLY time I saw any other enemy doing the oasis event.

You must be in the bestest tier.

I am grateful that its gone, but not because it gave me lag issues. the event was rather annoying to have to do every hour on another border…

They didnt “instantly remove” it, if you read the devs posts, they attempted several fixes for it to make it workable in a technical sense, but none have been successful. Then the decision was made to disable the event and possibly to bring it back someday if it could be successfully fixed
