Guild Wars 2

Was doing doing the battle for claw island part of my story line. This instance has a quest part to use a trebuchet to fire at a ship in the harbor and sink it.
I was trying to fire the trebuchet at the ship but kept getting a large red message saying ‘Cannot fire in that direction’ or something similiar. Didnt matter where i move the trebuchet kept getting same message. Is this story bugged at this point or am i a total noob and have no idea how to fire a trebuchet?

Before that part of the mission the trebuchet is prevented from firing to keep the player from using it in other parts of the mission. It should let you fire when that step comes up but I’ve heard of other people having the same problem so it’s definitely not just you.

I’ve heard some people just swam out to the ship and hit it with their own weapons to finish the quest, but since I didn’t run into this bug myself and I’d already finished the quest before I heard about it I can’t speak from experience.

Eamil is correct. I had the same thing happen to me.
Go back to the center and fight a bit and let the Story update. Then you will be able to use the trebuchet.

Also, make sure you are using the one that looks to be closest to the ship. It was the only one that worked for me.

I did the instance this afternoon and I had the exact same problem as the original poster. I spent 10 mins searching the forums and reading to see if it was bugged. I took Eamil’s advice and swam out to the Warmonger ship and used my own weapons to sink it and was then able to progress the story. I really think this could be a great storyline instance, but having to stop halfway through and scan the internet for solution to a bug spoilt it somewhat for me

yeah I’ve redone the story about 3 or 4 times with the trebuchet being bugged, thanks for the info
