Blank sender in mail sends to random toon
When you use Mail Item To… the To field is populated automatically with the person standing nearest to you. It’s a really stupid design.
I discovered shortly after the game launched that if you opened a blank mail to pull items into for sending to someone, make sure you are not standing next to anyone. I did this to send to a guild mate of mine and what happened was there was a player standing right in front of me who got the mail instead.
Fortunately, she realized we did not know one another and I got a mail back from her saying “I think you sent these to me in error.” She actually did mention she needed some of those items, so what I did later is to send her some other things that I got in a drop which I could not use.
Not only is this a problem but there appears to be NO cancel option at all. If you use the esc key it really is not guarantee it will work as intended.
The upside of this, I made a new friend and someone with whom I enjoy grouping from time to time.
Yes, this is a terrible design. Perhaps there was more intelligent functionality intended but it didn’t get finished in time for release (or since). If anything, it would be smart to have an address book available where you can white list people so that when you send mail (especially with attachments) it will go off without issue if sent to one of those whitelisted people, but if the recipient isn’t in that list, a big fat p0rn-style blinky popup asks you to confirm you wish to send this email to that person.
As it is, there are no safeguards, and the methodology actually HELPS you to make mistakes. Once again, I can’t imagine a group of devs sitting around actually greenlighting this as a smart, finished, design. Regardless, it needs some attention.
