Hi!

Mesmer underwater spear skill #2 – Feigned surge is a combo finisher move.
Mesmer underwater spear skill #5 – Vortex is an ethereal field.

So naturally, you wold get a chaos armor, when using the finisher in the field of the vortex right? Well … not really.

For at least half a year I tought this skill (feigned surge) was simply bugged and it does not do the combo finisher part. But with all other skills from other classes, it works.

Turns out you only get the chaos armor IF you don’t use the secondary feature of the spell (feign – wich teleport you back to your original location).

What sense does that make? Why would I need a shield if I have already escaped? I have cast the spell inside the field, why not get the shiled?

Compared to other mesmer spells iLeap (sword #3 skill) grants you the chaos armor, and grants it agan, when use it’s secondary feature (swap places with your clone).

As I said above, it took half a year to figure it works this way. Is this really intended? I wonder how many of my fellow mesmers have no idea about this.

The leap finisher applies when spear #2 (chain #1) is done animating, more or less you have to w8 until it will finish 100%+ .5 sec and then the combo applies, combo field works, but is way behind in my opinion.

How to crashreport…
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…

UnknownFreak is correct. Combo fields trigger at the end of the animation. Another good example for this is the Elementalist’s Churning Earth spell. If you start casting it while in a fire field, you’ll see the “Area Might” icon, but might will only be applied once the spell goes off uninterrupted.

While this can be seen as a disadvantage, there is something good about it; the combo will still trigger even if the field disappears before the animation is finished. Basically you need to start the animation in an active field, but the field doesn’t need to exist once the animation finishes.

Always question your assumptions.
