tl;dr:
Please clearly display and separate the most recent time result, the daily best time, and the lifetime best time across all Adventures. They are being mixed up (daily showing up as lifetime and vice versa) and often reset to 0:00 visually, both in the Daily and Lifetime tabs.
Long Version:
I describe myself as a casual speedrunner. When I saw that best times were recorded for Adventures, I knew I had found a grind in this game that I could enjoy, one where I could set my own goals. I’ve played the Adventures across VB, AB, and TD a ton, and I hold value in that Time result along with the lifetime ranking, and though there may be few of us I know I’m not the only one. I have Golds in most of the reasonable ones and several lifetime Top 100 ranks. I’ve played them at various times: before reset, after reset, through reset, staying on an Adventure/map/zone for hours by waiting out the meta event to finish so they re-open, and jumping around zones to continue playing. I’ve also only played on the x64 client due to needing to avoid lag/crashes.
And I still can’t find any pattern or reason why the bug happens or what triggers it.
I’ve seen different screenshots of the same thing and different descriptions from others in this forum, but here is my best concise description of what is happening: The game is sometimes visually showing the incorrect time after a run ends. The most obvious example is the 0:00 bug, where it shows your lifetime best time as 0:00 despite keeping your rank. But it also happens in other ways, which I’ll outline below. All scenarios and sub-scenarios don’t have to happen in order, I just listed them in an effort to fully describe the bug.
Scenario 0:
- You finish an Adventure with a time of 1:31. Gold was 1:40, so yay you got Gold!
- You try again and finish with 1:35. You are never told you got 1:35, it just says your Daily best is 1:31. Annoying, but not really a bug, just a lack of information. But this lack of information makes tracking all the scenarios more difficult.
Scenario 1:
- You finish an Adventure with a time of 1:30, your lifetime best. You are rank 200 lifetime, and rank 15 daily.
- Your guildmate finishes the Adventure with 1:35, rank 250 lifetime.
- An arbitrary amount of time later (yes, sometimes immediately), you click on that Adventure (either at the flag or by being in the zone and clicking on it on the map) and see that your Lifetime score now shows 0:00. You are disheartened that your best work was just erased. But wait, you are still rank 200 lifetime. Huh?
Scenario 1a:
- You also see your Daily record says 0:00. Understandable since you got that lifetime record that day. Your daily rank stays at 15.
Scenario 1b:
- You also see your Daily record says 0:00. But you didn’t even play that adventure today, you played it two days ago.
Scenario 1c:
- You see both you and your guildmate have 0:00 lifetime records. Your ranks are still 200 and 250 respectively.
Scenario 2:
- No matter, you’ve already know your Lifetime best is 1:30. Now it is two days later; you play the same Adventure. You finish the adventure at 1:45.
Scenario 2a:
- Your daily best shows as 1:45. Your lifetime best shows as 1:45. Huh? But didn’t you get 1:30 two days ago? But wait it still says you are rank 200. Your guildmate is still rank 250 with 1:35. How are you rank 200 with a slower score??
- You keep doing the Adventure. You get 1:41. Daily and lifetime show 1:41, still rank 200 lifetime. Then you get 1:39. Daily and lifetime show 1:39, still rank 200 lifetime. Etc. Finally you get 1:32 and call it a night. You are mostly convinced Guild Wars 2 has lost your 1:30 time and have accepted 1:32 as your new recorded personal best.
Scenario 2b:
- Your daily best shows as 1:30. Huh? But you know you just finished in 1:45 based on the clock, not 1:30. You even only got the Bronze and Silver chests, and you needed 1:40 to get the Gold. You try again and get 1:39. You get the Gold daily chest, but it still says daily best as 1:30.
Scenario 3a:
- You come back two days later and your Lifetime record reads 0:00. Reset again?!?!
Scenario 3b:
- You come back two days later and your Lifetime record reads 1:32. Sigh.
Scenario 3c:
- You come back two days later and your Lifetime record reads 1:30?! It’s been restored?! Your Daily time is unlisted as it should be.
Scenario 4:
- You play the Adventure again, and get 1:29! Your Daily and Lifetime records both show 1:29. This is the only thing that I have NOT seen fail. When you get your personal best, the game always knows and always lets you know.
Conclusion:
Scenario 4 specifically is the reason why I’ve collected these scenarios and the reason I hope this can be fixed, since it’s ultimately the most important thing, and I’m confident it works. Regardless of attaching screenshots, I can assure you that every single one of these scenarios and sub scenarios has happened to me, in different orders. I trust that there is some server, some database, something somewhere that holds the correct values at all times, so please address the bug that occasionally mixes these up.
Extra Bonus:
If you could show 100ths of a second, or at least 10ths of a second that would be nice, but I understand due to ping and whatnot if this can’t be done.
Thanks,
-Higgs
