Limited amount of people getting loot?
We have a problem! My ranger isn’t getting the event “boss” loot or the “boss drops” when a major event happens. I get the big chest and the bonus prize just not for the main boss. This is without being in a group. If grouping is now a necessity could you please let everyone know.
Although this doesn’t happen with the Mesmer, elemental, guardian or necromancer I have. My Mesmer does end up stuck inside rocks and walls using the staff #2 power (make a clone and move away instantly). This has been a problem for months. A great looking game but it doesn’t make up for these problems I’m seeing. Please fix this game so we can have a great time.
Thanks for your time, looking forward to the help.
This is an issue due to the @#$% megaservers. With no so many people in one place you have to do a percentage of damage in order to get loot and when you get 100 people you have to be in a group in order to get loot. I don’t like being in groups but am forced to if I want credit or loot.
Megaservers are the worst thing to happen to GW2.

That which is dead may eternally lie, but with great aeons even death may die.

I dont think its about doing damage. My guardian does pretty nice damage but if give the zerg a few seconds headstart of doing damage I get no loot, but if I attack early I get loot even if I slack with my dps. Or was I just always lucky/unlucky?
I have been killing the great jungle wurm everyday for a month or so and every time a bunch of people don’t get the event reward chest or the champion chest from the wurm head. Pretty annoying for such a big fight.
Looks like almost noone cares about this issue
That is so true! Ulgoth events are the best to see that. Been saying that since megaserver started “Not enough loot for everyone” Its really frustrating. Even in group its not a guaranty you will get anything. I do plenty of damage with my necro and sometime I get loot sometime I dont, never know why.

^ He’s on the money, at least from my experiences.
The changes with the megaserver coming into play have made it so unfair for loot distribution as to not bother with the event if you get there a matter of seconds after the boss starts taking damage. That loot drop now has someone else’s name on it. I’ve tried various different methods of why and why I was not getting boss drops from a lot of events, and Malediktus’ appraisal of the situation appears to stick the most.
So it’s like this…
Pre-megaserver – show up, kill the boss even when it’s at half health, get full credit and loot for the kill.
Megaserver – show up on time and start killing as soon as the boss becomes active, or don’t bother showing up and trying to kill at all.
It’s quite simple – I liked the way it was before. The whole system needs a complete loot-drop overhaul though.
“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
From my own observations, I seem to have better luck tagging the bosses if I do both regular DPS and condition DPS. If I only do regular DPS, then it seems like I need to do a significantly larger amount amount (like 2x to 3x more during the entire fight) to get credit. I don’t have any builds that are pure condition damage, so I can’t vouch for whether the reverse is true and that it needs do a lot more condition damage if you don’t do much regular damage.
Based on this, and the fact that bosses seem to cap out on conditions early, the behavior mentioned above may make some sense. Conditions applied later in fight may not register if the boss is already capped out. Thus, a guardian that is going to get every 5th hit with burning as a condition may only register this combination of physical and condition damage if they joined the fight before stacks of burning were maxed out.
So my trick to getting credit is to make sure I tag a boss early enough with at least one condition that deals damage, and then return to doing my normal damage attacks. By doing that, I seem to almost always get credit for the boss loot.
I dont think its about conditions. If I have a full group of different professions and they all wait about 10 seconds, noone gets loot.
I raised this over a month ago in this thread..

Having tested it out, loot rights are indeed dependent entirely on who hits the enemy first, not on doing the most damage, or even necessarily much damage. Being in a group only benefits you if one of the other people in your group was able to tag the enemy in question quickly, in which case that tag gets shared to all group mates.
On my own fighting the Jungle Wurm pre-events this morning, I was able to get champion loot bags from all three Avatars of Woe with just a few shortbow auto-attacks, because I hit them all quickly. I made sure to first tag the Avatar that spawned near the largest group of players, then after hitting it a couple of times I went to hunt down the other two Avatars and tag them twice each before the main zerg got through to them. The end result, I got three champ bags, while other players who don’t know how loot rights are assigned might have wound up with nothing even though they contributed more damage to the fights than I did.
It’s something that should be addressed. As it becomes more known, the chance of toxic behaviour around it increases. People not wanting to do certain pre-events for risk of being caught out of position to get subsequent champion loot, for example. The people who do go to those pre-events get rewarded for it by getting less treasure than the people who spawn-camp the subsequent event to quickly tag the champ(s) that appear. The only reason we’re not seeing more examples of this sort of thing now is because most players are simply unaware that loot is a “first tagged, first served” system rather than a “who does the most damage” system.
Considering Anets philosophy is people should be happy to see other players around, it must be changed to everyone gets loot who did more than lets say 1/1000th of the healthpool.

This is also my experience before and after megaserver.
Tagging first, and tagging first while in party are the best way to get loots.
I have a feeling tagging first is more important.
Somtimes, being alone, I can get champ box from Champ Spider at Melandru temple if I tag quickly.
Some other times, while being in party, I dont get the box if I was a bit late (when spider is at 80% or so)

bump, this needs attention
Would be nice to get an official statement on this issue. Wether its a bug or if its an intended feature.
I am loosing count on how much loot I loose out because the events are all overcrowded due to megaservers and tagging fast enough is sometimes hard, even if your group is full (especially if spawn spot is random like Karka Queen).
