Line of Warding Moving Friendly NPCs
I was about to make a topic about this and noticed this one was already up and want to add to this.
I’m a Guardian and I was messing around with a friend while doing an escort quest in Kessex Hills (the one with the little kid) and, just because everyone was throwing out their skills and looking cool, I threw down my two handed staff Line of Warding spell and put the wall in front of the NPC so we would just walk across it. To my complete surprise, the NPC bumped into it and kept running into it, not passing to the goal area till the ward went away.
I quickly apologized in game and laughed a bit about it with my friend and we went on our way. Later that session, I decided to test it after the quest had been turned in on another NPC in the same area (a caravan escort mission) and the two NPCs I trapped ran into it over and over till the ward went away, making one run to catch up with the group that had left him behind but causing the other one to walk around lost. Since then, I’ve tested it on a few NPCs, both quest and just regular ones walking around, and have seen that most will be blocked by the ward.
I’m not sure if this intended but I definitely recommend looking into this. I can just see blocking quest NPCs to grief other players becoming an issue. And this was not fixed in the most recent patch at the time of posting, I tested both things out a few more times before posting this.
Happens on IoJ server as well.
You reported it two weeks ago…. and we still have it. (I’m ignorant, and thinking it is a simple fix with making the friendly NPCs immune to friendly skills that are supposed to only target enemies)
It’s an exploit. You can do it to NPCs in WvW for benefit of your team. You can do it in Dungeons. Think outside the box, and you can imagine all the different exploits.
There has been a group of people on Henge doing this as well. Then they brag about it…
In the past few days, they moved Miyani from beside the Mystic Forge to a spot hiding behind a group of other vendors by the Black Lion area.
They moved the vendor who sells tools and salvage materials from the foot of the stairs in front of the bank to inside the bank near the banker.
They moved the repair person across the bridge from the trainers onto the side near the trainers (close to the forge).
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the broken skill points and events are due to this behaviour. I also won’t be surprised if the moves get more abusive as time goes by without it being fixed. I haven’t had a chance to witness the group moving the NPC’s yet, but I have at least reported the bug.
Likewise I haven’t actually seen it in action, but this has been happening on Sanctum of Rall as well. Someone (or some people) moved all the NPCs standing by their respective Asura gates, they’re now all standing around the Gate Hub Plaza waypoint.
Miyani and the Bankers have also been subject to this.

Not sure if it is intended to let NPCs get moved around by players, but I had trouble finding the guild bank in Lion’s Arch today, on Eredon Terrace. After a major duh moment, I checked the map and saw that the guild banker was outside!
Turns out that a player (a guardian or a warrior I think) was using a knockback skill to move the banker out of the building, deliberately. I ended up sending in a /bug but I don’t even know if this is considered a bug, or a player behaviour to be reported.
For the Toast!!!11!!one!!
yeah I sent in a report as well, just to let them know. after the last patch the NPCs reverted to their intended spots, and you could see in map chat people egging on the guardians to “clump them all together” and whatnot.
Hey, knocking the TP guy closer to the crafting tables in LA would be a good thing!
Anything closer to the crafting tables would be an improvement!
The player I asked about it said he was moving them because there were too many players in the bank building. I guess that’s reasonable if you have lag issues, it’s just confusing to my poor caffeine deprived brain when it’s on auto pilot!

Some guardians use there walls to bunch/stack up the dungeons vendors at Lion Arch.
I thought when the server resets it would put the npc back in to the intended places but it hasn’t unless the server did not reset which I think is everyday? But its been a couple of days since then.
What this does is make it hard to view and buy gear from vendor.
Also can you reset Maguuma Lion Arch its starting to get annoying.
Tired of guardians pushing NPCs around Lions Arch all the time. Either make it not work on them, or have them locked to a position.
well someone moved all the dungeon vendors into a giant clump and i can’t even talk to the AC or CM vendors. I want my skins. and apparently the cooking vendor is inaccessible in his current spot.
Also, I understand why people did it. Maybe there were too many people in the bank, but there are two bank vendors each and bodyblocking does not exist, so I can’ t justify it.

Bored guardians have moved many, many NPCs in Lion’s Arch around on Maguuma. Miyani is now missing, the bankers are standing on staircases, repair guy swimming, the guards by the city portals are all moved about, etc.
I dredged this post up to show just how old this bug is and still in the game.

Yeah, people are making new threads about it in various GW2 forums as well:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Can-we-get-some-kind-of-NPC-reset-on-Maguuma/
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Griefing-discovered-need-punishment-please/
I’ve never seen someone actually perform the act, just the resulting NPCs moved wherever. Currently on Maguuma all the Dungeon Vendor NPCs are stacked on top of eachother.
I have seen some pretty impressive ones. I saw one of the towers had hidden their Lord.
yeah it’s annoying as there are some vendors that I can’t even access… like when the dungeon vendors are on top of eachother.
Have also seen this used to reset bugged Skill Challenge mobs which was nice
Another patch, another week of this skill being broken.
Guardians are moving NPCs around the cities with their skills. Highly annoying.
In WvW, they can do it to exploit their own NPCs.
We can’t really report the players. It is against TOS I believe to call out their player/account names on the forum, and in-game what option applies? Spamming? Scamming? Verbal Abuse?
We have no option to describe their actions. How are the ArenaNet staff able to review player behavior, when they have no clue what to look for?
Isle of Janthir has players currently moving the Banking NPCs in LA. A lvl 34 fat female Norn is doing the moving.
This is getting ridiculous. It’s the same problem on Darkhaven, you have morons running around pushing NPCs all over Lions Arch.
This is the type of global trolling that Anet simply needs to FIX.
Please fix this. This needs far more exposure and hopefully an Anet response to let us know if this type of behavior is going to be permitted.
This still needs attention. FIX IT
So Apparently Gaurdians are the ones moving NPCs around town. Which is annoying because they put them in ridiculous places.
Here’s a Video of a Gaurdian Moving an NPC.
Please fix this Arena net, it’s quite annoying.
NPCs are being moved all over Lions Arch.
NPCs are being GLITCHED in WvW.
This needs attention.
I have been seeing Guardian players using a staff ability to shove NPCs away from their normal location, sometimes to pretty dramatic effect.
Might want to look into this.
The Guild Vault NPC in Divinity’s Reach on Tarnished Coast is no where to be seen, she has been shoved far away from her normal spot.
yeah I posted about this earlier and I included a video of a couple of guardians doing it. It’s so annoying.
In the middle of Queensdale is a small outpost with a TP NPC.
In that outpost i couldnt find the Merchant at first, wasnt where it was supposed to be.
But looking around i found its name (and the NPC) behind a tent.
The Merchant was usuable, so no big problem.
But i figured someone somehow moved the NPC.
Vabbi server btw.
I can imagine this could indeed lead to putting some NPC’s in more difficult to find or maybe even unreachable places.
I’ve actually heard people were going in WvW and changing up key NPC’s and moving them outside of keeps. This is not just annoying, but also quite game breaking if I say so myself.
This has been done to the Guild Banker in Divinity’s Reach on Tarnished Coast.
Guild Banker and Vendor outside the bank have both been moved (not sure where to yet), in Divinity’s Reach on Tarnished Coast.

I didn’t even think about that since I don’t WvW much, but I can see how it would be quite game breaking in those cases.
On my server (Henge of Denravi) They are constantly moving NPC’s to places that make them unusable and/or unreachable. It get’s really old.
Another Henger here. In Lion’s Arch, the Banker is on the balcony of the bank building, the repair service is taking a dip in the canal, and Miyani is neither at her old nor new location, but at the very edge of the Mystic Forge plaza, hidden in the vines against one wall.
And these are just the ones I’ve caught.
Ah. And hadn’t thought to mention this, but now that I see the WvW comment, I can see this being exploited in PvE – pushing key NPCs into hostile areas.
It needs fixing as it’s annoying as hell..
For Tarnished Coast. The Guild Bank and Vendor are located right behind the wall of the building. In the alleyway behind the waypoint. You can find moved NPC’s by checking your map for their icon.
This is becoming extremely prolific. This needs to be fixed quickly. I regret that we can’t get the people doing this banned as well.
I had tried to correct the location of one of the NPCs but they are being shoved into corners so they can’t be moved.
This glitch still needs attention.
This wouldn’t be so bad if people used their power for good, like resetting broken skill points or say, moving the guild bank npc next to the bank npc for easier transfers. But as it is, this does need to be looked at due to the possibility of griefing and tomfoolery in wvwvw.
