MASSIVE Server/Skill Lag in WvW since patch

Didnt realize this was here when I made my bug post. This is the one that needs to stay at the top until it is addressed.

Once a WvW engagement gets above 30-40 total characters on screen, the game begins to become impossible to play due to server side lag.
It begins by with skill delay, progresses to all skills but weapon skill #1 failing to work, and ends with plays warping all over the map, no abilities working, animations stopping, and lurching game play where is slows down/speeds up. Once the engagement ends and the server ‘catches up’ the game goes into super speed mode where everyone’s abilities fire at double speed or more.
This began they day you implemented the stability change patch and has gotten worse since. I can’t say if it is due to any extra calculations you are doing for the stabo changes or the precision enhancement to condition ticks, but it is absolutely making game play impossible in even medium size fights now. Doesn’t matter what server, tier, or borderland you are on …once a certain amount of people get in one place at one time, the game breaks.
There has been no official response to this or even acknowledgement that you are even aware of this issue and are working on it. Given that large amount of players, guilds, and gem store customers that participate in WvW, you owe us at least that.

So in short, its either:
- skill can’t be activated, when used/pressed
- skill is activated after several seconds later after pressed
- often rubberbanding, players are skipping from one place to another, while walking straight
I belive the skill lags are caused by the new stability calculations.
Some guild raids have been cancelled due to server-wide lag. Agree with the rest of the comments, issue grew exponentially more on the same day as stab changes patch. Not say that’s what it is, but that’s the when. Thanks.

I have no problem with the implementation of the stability changes. Those are cool. What’s not cool is the crippling and unplayable lag that has been present ever since those changes were made. We have entire guilds not out playing because it’s so bad. We leave the maps/game to do other things. The lag was so bad that it was causing people to straight out DC instead of being able to use a waypoint when defending a structure.
This is not a crybaby t1 problem. The lag may be a little crazier up here, but it has NEVER EVER been this bad, not even when dealing with the Hordes of Denravi at launch.
Please understand that for some of us… WvW is why we play this game. We cannot currently do so.
To sum up:
-Rubber banding/skipping.
-Skill lag. Skills will not activate. Pressing 1 will not even work.
-Often you will lag —>straight to DC as the server can’t catch up.
-‘ghost’ players appearing, since the server can’t catch up to where they really are.
-Present on all maps, but especially bad on Red Borderlands.

It’s kind of sad anytime I hop into WvW in any borderlands after about 6pm est, its steady lag. Depending on how bad it spikes you won’t even see the things hitting you, only your health ticking away. The bigger issue though is depending on how bad the lag is it can take anywhere from .5 seconds to 5 seconds to just start an animation. This lag happens even if you are no where near a zerg, if there is a large fight happening on any BL or EB than it is lag for all maps….

Last night on JQBL I literally spammed meteor shower for 30 seconds as a test during this server lag without getting it to fire once. Not sure how you expect us to play the game when it is like this, but it has been exponentially worse since the patch with the stability changes.
Some members of the ANET staff should really play tonight at reset on a server where there is guaranteed to be at least medium sized fights and consistent action. I recommend JQ/TC/BG to be guaranteed to see it in action and how badly it is breaking the game.
Amazing, no response to this…. tonight’s reset is going to be another massive lag fest.
I haven’t had an issue in WvW in probably a year until the recent patch. I’ll have my options window open, and of course my ping will be 60-80 ms, but everyone is just standing still or my skills aren’t going off randomly. Then everything is fine for 5 minutes.
I’m on SoR, so we don’t really see huge numbers causing issues most of the time anymore.
Can you please fix the kitten servers? I enjoy actually being able to switch attunments as a staff ele during a fight for the ever so fun variety of play. As it stands now, once you get 25 or more on either side of a fight I need to make sure I’m in water before the engagement commences so I can be guaranteed to get water fields off. Since I have almost zero probability of switching attunments amongst the lag fest and someone will need heals out there since not a one players active heal will go off.
Or are we all just supposed to build some ACs and ballistas and play siege wars at range ? Since actually large-scale pvp seems to be a bit much for your servers to handle calculations on since the stabo change.
it’s super frustrating to play. it’s always my stability skill that takes forever to register as well. purging flame? np. hold the line? nope. stand your ground? takes 5 trillion years. these last few weeks have had me looking at playing different games.

Yep. This has happened this whole last match. I see guilds calling rallies early because the lag is just unusually bad since the patch.

WvW lag is awful. I do not know how the server relays information to the client and vice versa. I do not know how this is coded, nor do I know the difficulties in doing so. What I do know is that many other games do not have this problem.
Please return the game back to being enjoyable and not overly frustrating.
We can’t say what’s the reason (stability stack change or something else in the code), but it’s related to fights involving stacks, and everyone is affected on the map during these. It’s skill lag, server side. Not the first time, some patch(es) in the past already caused these and were fixed in time.
We can’t tell how to fix it, but if the stability stacks (and any other stacks can affect lag), then you can do even more than just reduce these lag spikes to playable level: re-design WvW mode skills (maybe called “balance”) around current WvW server-side hardware limitations: 5vs5 sPvP mode may work as it is, but WvW, “large scale fights” not.
Fix your broken server Anet. Can’t play WvW due to lag.
I’m sorry wvw is completely unplayable at reset times on T1 servers (Jade Quarry) .
Every time there is a 3 way fight everything locks up – auto attacks won’t fire, heals go awol, utilities flash and won’t cast. I can now see the ping in game it goes up from 140ms avg up to 200-300ms when a big three way fight starts. My FPS is acceptable – it’s not my side.
This is completely server side – wvw has been a horrible experience since launch with massive lag feats in full server Ques.
I have no desire to play wvw unless this mess is sorted out – right now it’s a guess to if you will win a fight (RNG) as the experience is so laggy if you meet any form of enemy.
To those who say there is no lag – come join wvw on a reset night for 1-2 hrs on a tier 1 server and see how much fun you have when nothing works at all.
My greatest fear is the new desert boarder lands map encourages a three way fight for a giant lazer every 3 hours which will guarantee a lag fest from hell regardless which server you currently play on. The best thing about this is more servers/players will notice the problems and more complaints will rise up from the deaths as skills do not work.

Amazing how relatively minor issues get a response, but we get left hanging. Absolutely silly.

ANet has been suspiciously quiet about this game-breaking lag on their end. Was this patch even tested before implementation? And why hasn’t it been officially addressed? A simple “we’re working on it” would be better than nothing. It’s almost as if they don’t care about WvW and want to promote their PvE content….
They’ve got time to create and continually maintain these huge PvE patches (living story and other such crap), but can’t address game-breaking WvW issues. Typical.

The server lag is terrible to an extreme lately. Apparently it happens to everyone on every timezone in every tiers as well.
Sometimes you will be dc from the client and then you won’t able to log back in for hours (error codes pop).
Also the lag will often get people stuck in perma loading screen when switching maps, people will have to alt-F4 (which mean they will be locked out of the game for hours due to error codes).

So last night was pretty much a nightmare of lag, disconnects to the point I have to wonder if you are openly trying to push your player base away by not responding to this issue? We have been dealing with this inability to effectively play and enjoy the game now for 3 weeks.
Rest In Pepperonis, T1 servers. We’ve evolved from Red BL being “DC BL” for many months to all BLs being affected equally.
Concur issues still exist and I am getting the same statements from multiple guild members from across different parts of the US from Eastern, Central and Pacific. Skill lag, rubber banding and game losing track of player positions. This is from a T3 server. First noticed issues were around the stability patch.

in MY NA Guild, now it seems we have massive lag only on 1 enemy border.. Even when all borders are empty..
