Mute Musical Harp
You may want to check your system audio Surround Sound settings to ensure it is configured to be 2-channel Stereo as GW2 does not support 5.1+ surround sound. Perhaps also check your audio utility in your task bar (if you use one) for a surround sound button to see if it is enabled there as well.
Surround sound being enabled would prevent certain sounds from being sent to your speakers/headphones. As you can hear others’ sounds but not your own, it sounds like this may be the culprit.
Here is some more information, screenshots and steps to resolve it if you need them.

However, if you would also like to run a repair on your client to see if there are damaged audio files:
Check the game for errors and repair it
- Close your game completely.
- Next, make a copy of your Gw2 game shortcut and rename it “GW2 Repair” or to something that you will recognize it for being only for running a repair on your GW2 installation.
- Now, right-click this “Gw2 Repair” shortcut and click on “Properties”.
- On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed. - After the closing quotation marks in this line put a space and then add -repair
It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” -repair - Hit OK after making this change.
- Run this repair shortcut. Your game will run through a repair cycle and fix any damaged files it finds.
- After it runs through, start the game using the normal GW2 game shortcut (not the repair shortcut) and see if your game can start up properly.

Thanks for your input. I’ve just finished trying both suggestions. It’s still not working. My audio is fine except hearing my OWN INSTRUMENT (I envy how I can hear other players). There were a couple of things in audio I’ve changed to match Guild Wars 2 more (although I don’t feel any difference). The repair taken quite some time to accomplish. I don’t feel much difference (but I thank you anyway because it probably had repair problems I haven’t even realized.) Nevertheless it didn’t solve the instrument problem.
It is not my audio settings and it does not appear that repair can solve it. Perhaps other suggestions?
EDIT: Update. I fixed it. I changed the setting to stereo and it works well now.
