No credit for Jorlag kill + latency issues
One thing that I guess they won’t admit is that their megaservers are tuned to permit WAY too much ppl. What is causing this massive lag is that the ip route they are using is either too busy or broken. If they set down the max number of players on a megaserver, this would work, but it would create the feeling that the game is empty.
Also try to do a tracert on cmd.exe prompt. Get the Frostgorge (or any laggy) map ip by typing /ip in-game, then open the cmd.exe and type this:
tracert x.×.×.x (the ip you got)
This will show if your route is clean to Arenanet servers or not. Mine is always showing that a route server is missing between Miami and Arenanet (i’m in Brazil, btw), which is causing massive lags sometimes too.

All good and dandy, but what do I do with the information now I have it?

I feel that this is the root of all the issues I’ve been having with latency. Any other MMO I’ve been just fine with my normal 300 ping. But then again those companies tend to be more open and communicative with their community too.

Send it to ANet, so they can work on troubleshooting. It’s not clear from your post whether this is a problem on ANet’s side, how the data gets routed after it leaves Australia|US, ISP bandwidth in Australia, etc etc
Another alternative: I have friends in Australia who started using WTFast (which reroutes some of the traffic via their own servers) and swears by it. One of them said, “I finished Sanctum Sprint for the first time!”

Finishing Sanctum Sprint??? You’ve convinced me!
