As of last night’s update, majority of cooking materials were taken away from NPCs and are now only obtainable through supply bags that mobs drop.
Have fun trying to get your mats now when you still have a chance to get mats for another craft.
Ridiculous.

Oh well, won’t be crafting in this MMO either. Least i’ll have plenty of bank space now and no need to expand it with gems
Guardian, Ranger, Warrior.
Glad this change happened. Rather than getting what you need from the game directly from vendors you now have to get it from enemies and the world just like the other crafts. It also means that more player to player trading can take place since your items can now be purchased from each other.

Apart from the eggs and oranges I have appear to be soulbound so untradable.
dem bandits be hording all mah chocolates.
And possibly more people convert gems into gold to hit the TP, which in turn results in bumping up the monetary gain for our beloved software company.
Smart move.

Even after this change?
Well, if that’s the case, then please ignore what I said. Thanks for correcting me.

Yes, but oddly only a certain batch of mine. The others I have are tradable. Odd.
Although I don’t like the change, I guess I can see why it was done. When I picked up Chef it said it was an advanced class and would require more money than the others & suggested it was more complex. But it turned out to be easier I felt. Being able to buy a lot of the ingredients in bulk helped. A few hours in WvW gave me enough Karma to buy what I needed.
The change, for people who, like me, started in Chef when we could buy said goods in bulk, it was/is a nasty change. But really it’s now in line with the other crafting skills that can only get items via loot drops.
Just glad I finished Chef last night, this move doesn’t really make me want to go back to it though. Considering all food crafted, even the high end stuff, people were only willing to pay peanuts for it on the TP, making it worthless as the resource costs more than what they wanted to pay.
