Character 1:

• Completed the story in entirety before the Personal Story was reorganized a while back.
• New patch hits, Story Journal is suddenly missing the latter part of Chapter 8.

Character 2:

• Finished the story up until the end of Chapter 6. I completed all the way up to “Forging the Pact”, but I stopped progressing her because the PS was changed.
• Latest patch hits including the re-re-done story model. Continue playing the story.
• Skip the entire “greatest fear arc” and go immediately to the mission “Battle of Fort Trinity”.
• After the battle, she skips all the way to “The Source of Orr”.
• Go through that mission because I have no clue what order everything is supposed to be in anymore and then…
• You must kill Zhaitan! Gain access to final dungeon story.
• Story Journal says that I am still on Chapter 7.

Character 1 had part of his progress erased from the journal, and Character 2 skipped over a huge chunk of the story (literally everything to do with Orr) and was told to kill Zhaitan after doing practically nothing…….

Sooooo… what just happened?! What can be done to fix this error? Is this permanent, or is it possible to get a reset?

Hate to say it, but this was addressed over a month ago when the changes to the PS were announced. The announcement spelled out exactly what was going to be cut, moved, and altered. It also told us exactly what would happen to progress depending on which stage of the story you were on. The post also said there will be NO way to alter or reset the personal story, period.

Thanks for the reply. I was already aware of that post and the changes they intended to make. However, my problem is much bigger than that.

If your character has not completed “Forging the Pact,” you should not encounter any issues. While you will not be able to replay previous story steps to see some of the minor improvements that were made, you will be able to play the “My Greatest Fear” story content (based on the choice you made at the end of “A Light in the Darkness”) and also experience the restored chapter 8 story steps.

Well, I have encountered some issues. Many issues. So many issues, I am appalled at the number of issues I have encountered. I started from Forging the Pact, and as the dev stated, everything should be smooth sailing from there. Unfortunately, this is not what happened at all. I am missing a lot more than what was cut or adjusted in the story. I am missing more than 80% of Chapter 7 and Chapter 8!!

I’d say there are some pretty big issues here, and that things are most certainly not working as planned. The thought that my story is now permanently screwed up on my characters is rather disappointing. I don’t want to restart my character because I created them over 2 years ago… so, what now?

Your second screen looks like mine. I can’t go on with the PS because there is no “Continue your Story” button on it nor is there a quest on the top right of the screen as there should be. I deactivated my LS, but to no avail. I am stuck in the PS now. I submitted a ticket so I hope they fix it soon.

Yes, I am afraid I am in the same boat with my warrior. I’m a recently returned player, and unaware of the recent changes. I thought I’d go and carry on with my PS at last on this character and the Orr story is inaccessible. Going from Forging the Pact to a lvl 70 version of the penultimate mission The Source of Orr, the rest… gone with no chance of seeing it.
Extremely disappointing if nothing can be done about it.

same bug for me too, i was doing level 80 story quests after one of them i got returned to level 70 story all progress gone or is this some kind of bug?

I suspect this problem is pretty huge in terms of the coding, because they rearranged and removed and reinserted a bunch of stuff. So I understand that it might take a while for them to fix it, let alone figure out exactly where the problems are.

I submitted a ticket earlier this week, but I lost the number for it, so I can’t look it up or anything… I might send another one some time next week if I don’t hear from anyone (and make sure I don’t misplace my sticky-notes). haha

Oh. I just made another post regarding this. Not sure how many missions I’ve skipped but I managed to finish the story. Only the journal entries seem to be stuck.

I’ve downloaded the client yesterday after a 6-month hiatus and noticed that of my three completed characters only the oldest one has the Personal Story marked as complete in the journal (all chapters incl. Victory or Death).
The other two were done with it a while ago (8-14 months ago) and now are stuck on chapters 6 and 7 respectively. I can’t play or replay anything concerning the Personal Story with them since there isn’t anything “clickable” in the journal or the content guide. The game seems to remember them finishing it but doesn’t display it as such.
First two characters have 100% map completion.
Customer service has referred me to the forums and this thread seems to fit the issue.

Story Journal reporting has been up the creek for some characters ever since the patch in which the “greatest fear” episodes were restored (there was a similar problem when the missions were swapped out, that took some time to get corrected). In my case, at least 6 of my characters are currently being reported incorrectly; it’s frustrating, but ultimately trivial, because it hasn’t affected what they’ve actually been able to do. I keep a record of my characters’ progress on the PS and LS, and post patch, affected characters who hadn’t completed the PS were all still showing the correct PS episode at top right, and (where I’ve tried), have all been able to progress through the PS correctly, even if their Story Journals still don’t reflect that. So unless you’re finding that you’re able to do content you don’t think that you should, or unable to do content that you think you should be able to, you’re probably simply suffering the same (hopefully temporary) misreporting as am I and others.

I’m completely unable to complete the Personal Story on one of my characters since the PS reboot. It simply won’t even let me activate the PS and I have no quest available. I’ve tried activated Season 2 and deactivating – nothing will make it work. I opened a ticket with Support and they told me there was nothing they could do and closed my ticket. Pretty disappointing.

One of my characters and two of my wifes are stuck in chapter 7. The journals last entry is “Forging the Pact”. It isn’t possible to reactivate the personal story since the button is missing. I would say there is hardly any bug that can be more annoying than the unability to complete the story so i hope ANet puts some pressure on solving the problem. So far i have no reaction to my support ticket.

I didn’t play my ranger for a while. Today i wanted to finish her personal story and progress to LS. Surprisingly my PS is stuck in Chapter 7 Forging the Pact. The entry is exactly the same which AngelMouse and Blashyrkh already posted above. There is no aktive quest and no way to activate the PS. Really annoying.

I have been on hiatus for 9 month. Then recently logged in on to one of my characters that had finished battle for fort trinity, went skipped most of chapter 8 to Against the corruption. The story journal progress is bugged and stuck on forging the pact, and subsequent progress is not updating on completion. Please take this data to address the problem.

Having the exact same issue.. stuck at “Forging the Pact”.

I’m having this problem as well. I even opened a ticket but all i got was a standard response that they are aware of the issue and are working on it. Looking at this post’s initial start date looks like they barely care if we can complete it or not, since it’s been two months now and still no fix…

Going to add I seem to be suffering from this issue as well on one of my characters.

I contacted support about it and I have to say I am disappointed with their reply of “send in-game bug report (which was the first thing I did) and post to forums” not even a link to this or any related thread.

@Bobby – This was NOT fixed with HOT. It’s still bugged for me.

I was stuck on the exact story step as Kecal.3964 before HoT and now instead of simply continuing my level 70 story quests it just skipped to the end. Story journal says I killed Zhaitan when I never actually did.

Same problem, also stuck at ‘Forging the Pact’. Also submitted bug reports months ago, and surprised the problem still persists THIS long.

Hello, as you can see in my screenshot after “The Battle at Fort Trinity” every further story part just disapeared and there is no option to activate the story. Every other story (LS2, HoT) is finnished.
I never killed Zhaitan with my character “Cínderfall”, the rest of part 7. and 8. of “My Story” is missing.

I do know since the soothsayer arrived my journal is missing the final chapters. I have finished the story on that character but did so fairly recently. Pretty sure it was after the soothsayer was added

My character had also done enough of the story after the first restructuring that when the restoration occurred I was ineligible to regain the lost steps. If I remember correctly that is where my journal stops now.

And another month passed and nothing happened….

Seriously….you realy don’t care at all, right?!? -.-

This bug exists more than a year now! And nothing ever got patched! We still can’t continue our story!

So hard to resett the story for the characters with the bug?

You can’t tell us it is that hard to patch this! We are not that stupid!
