I was doing the heart in sparkfly fen called “Secure the area around Dryground Village,” one of the tasks for completing the heart is training the various sylvari NPC’s around the village by sparring with them. Once you beat them however, you don’t get credit towards the heart for this. Everything else counts, except for completing this portion of the task.

I can confirm this. On the Stormbluff Isle Server, I just tried to do this heart and trained with 3 sylvari NPCs and neither progressed the heart.
