jump looping
I’ve had this happening lots since the latest patch. I had it in all 3 LA jumping puzzles, so badly that both me and my guildie died even though we made the jump first time, it decided to loop us and drop us onto a flat surface.
I’d really like to know whats going on with this, its been happening lots to me and my friends recently.
I can confirm this is happening, and it is preventing players from completing their “Dive Master” achievement.
this isn’t only happening in LA, it’s happening everywhere. perhaps the funniest occurrence of it is when you jump/fall a long distance, SHOULD die but don’t, then as soon as you move, you’re dead. yesterday in orr, my husband and i both fell off a cliff — i moved, died, he didn’t move, was able to rez me, and then, i suppose because he rezzed me, when he did move, he did not die.
this is causing issues for jumping and placing portals, for mesmers, as well. as a side note, when i did sharkmaw today, i got to watch my character fall twice, once from the side. that was pretty interesting … but not overly useful.
I would also like to add that in WvW The first time I was in a jump loop and I jump landed took fall damage and started back at the top and then fell took damage and the whole time I was getting killed by a invader! The second time was the most annoying, I jumped off the side of a keep and even with 50% less fall damage I died because of the loop, I would jump, fall, land, take damage and repeat! I looped 4 times on that one and died! Those are the major ones but it seems to happen to me on every jump in which I take damage! also I think it’s dumb that when you jump and land on a ledge then down to the ground the last damage is as if you jumped from the top when a jump from the ledge to the ground wouldn’t have damaged you at all! Sliding down a hill too! Thanks! Please fix the jump loop, I won’t play WvW till it’s fixed!
Fix this bug … Quickly ! That is very disturbing, and sometimes I don’t die (and even don’t lose any hp) when making a big jump. I think it’s not wanted
Yes, this is annoying to say the least. I have experienced this on all my characters no matter where I am and it has just started since this last patch.
Please fix.
This is just wild conjecture, on my part: They removed Super Adventure Box. In the notes about the box they mentioned turning off fall damage. What if it were a bit more complicated than that. What if they made a new type of jump just for the SAB, one that doesn’t end in fall damage? What if when the sab was removed or made inactive, not all of it’s contents became inactive? What if your character is trying to make two different types of jump at the same time? Of course the guess falls apart when you note people are taking damage both times, or when they jump repeatedly 4+ times, and when they die after the fact. ah well. I do know it hit me when I was guesting, I can’t remember which server it was though.
Look, here’s the issue: It’s not just occasional jump looping. Somehow, somewhere, they made a major change, and it is catastrophic.
Do this: Jump onto an uneven surface (somewhere with a slight difference in height), and don’t move, then try to use skills. You can’t do anything until the game sees you are “Running” in a direction on the ground. They have completely messed up the server/client’s ability to detect when you’ve hit the ground on an uneven surface.
This is also the reason Arrow Carts will give “Cannot drop bundles in the air” errors now, and if you take a fall that hurts you, it will not hurt you until you start running/moving some direction on the ground. The game literally cannot tell you are NOT in the air until you move in a direction walking. In fact, when this happens, you can “hippity hop” (moving only while in the air, after jumping up) endlessly not able to use skills.
Now, for example, lets say you jumped down a wall in WvW, and landed slightly unevenly. All the enemy needs to do is keep you from moving (immobilize, knock down, ect), and you’ll be trapped and unable to fight back or help yourself. You can’t use stun breaks or condition removals, and you will die.
I have a hunch they’re trying to stop teleporters, but this is really horrible.

I have this too, it caused me to die one time since I got spawned back up in the air some distance away from where I was originally falling down in the water, instead I fell down on the ground the second time and it killed me.. pretty lame if you ask me.
Not sure if this is related, but whenever I knock back a MoB with my flamethrower, they loop right back at me again rather than running towards me, especially if over uneven ground.
I can confirm the jump loop over several jumping puzzles and have even seen it happening to other people jumping down the Shark’s Maw entrance in Lion’s Arch.

I have experienced this jump/falling looping quite a bit, in jumping puzzles and when grabbing vistas or just navigating terrain. Sometimes you fall off the same cliff over and over and only break out of the loop when you try to move away from the fall site.
HOW TO REPLICATE:
1. Jump forward off a ledge while casting
2. Swap weapons to interrupt casting in the air
3. Swap back to the original weapon as soon as possible
I’m getting really tired of these jumping/skill bugs.
I have noticed this bug as well at times. Also, might be related, I saw a dead npc in Diessa Plateau right outside of Naggling that was standing up. I rezzed the npc, as soon as I was done, it showed him as laying down in the dead/defeated position and getting back to his feet. This happened a couple of nights ago on U.S. Northern Shiverpeak.
Earlier tonight, I chose to jump off a cliff in WvW without having a reduced-fall-damage trait active. Whoops. Well, no worries -- a teammate came to rez me.
But then after thanking him/her and trying to catch up to the fight, I suddenly fell from the cliff to the ground again.
This also happens to me a lot lately.
There is also a bug where if I slowly walk off something I take no fall damage.
everyone in my guild is getting this bug – my theory is that the anti-teleport code on the server is set too aggressively and thinks that we are using ‘teleport hacks’ because we moved too far, too quickly and sends us back where we started…
i generally get the bug when i have lag in WvW, i think the dev’s need to play the game on a ‘simulated’ laggy connection so they can see what it is like and if there are any peculiar behaviours that surface due to lag
Has happened to me twice.
First time: Fractals of the Mists, Snowblind fractal. Female Sylvari Guardian. Running down the ramps, tried to cut a corner and jumped too far. Defeated at the bottom. No biggie, guildie comes to rez me. As soon as I am rezzed, I take a step and fall to my death again! So I get rezzed a second time and then I was OK.
Second time: Sharkmaw caverns jumping puzzle in LA. Female Asura Elementalist. Made it down to the stalactites, but then it jump looped me and I came falling a second time. Didn’t die or take extra damage so it seemed OK. Then I jumped down into the water, landed in the water fine, seemed to survive, then BAM, insta-defeated.
There weren’t enough silly glitches already to frustrate people doing jumping puzzles, so it was necessary to add more.
I see this most often in the borderlands JPs. Near the end of the bottom key route there’s a platform with two oozes where you walk off the edge to land on a small ledge on the wall. Land on the ledge, then try to jump to the next ledge, boom teleported back up to the top where the oozes were. If you’re lucky, you’ll fall back down onto the ledge. Otherwise, you end up in the water and have to start all over.
It’s the most obnoxious glitch that I’ve experienced in this game. With as much as Anet has tried to fix since the April 30th update, why haven’t they addressed or corrected this huge flaw?
I’ve been killed in Sharkmaw right near the end chest. Dropped into the water perfectly safe, and then I shot back up and landed on a ledge, fell off that and died instantly.
In WvW, this happens all the time. People will fall from Sunnyhill to hit the camp, take damage, shoot back up, take more damage, shoot up again and die. It’s ridiculous that this CAN even happen.

This is what happens to EVERYONE when they make a partial jump forward (if you’re not moving when you hit the ground).

This is very simple: The game doesn’t know you hit the ground until you move on the ground. You can’t get off siege weapons, use skills, or take falling damage.
P.S. The issue resolves itself once in a while, for short periods of time, after you’ve been logged in for a while. If you want to test it, the bug always occurs when you’ve just logged in (so log out, then log in, then test it… this sucks big time).
I think it’s time for ArenaNet to send someone to address this. We have a nice video showing the problem, tons of people having the same issues, and it’s easy to replicate. Time for some attention.

To put it simply:
When jumping to a new location (even on flat ground) and not attempting to move when you land, you cannot use skills, place siege, etc.. Upon moving, you can use skills again.
On another note, does anyone know what happens if you get hit with immobilize while in the air? Does it become a super stun since you can’t use stun breakers?
Edit: It seems that after being in a zone for a varying amount time, everything seems to start working again. Entering a different zone or relogging causes the bug to reappear. Also, you cannot interact (F key) before taking the falling damage: So if you and an enemy jump off a cliff, you can’t collect your loot bag if they move first; although you can trick them into following you and be entertained.
Edit 2: The “put simply” example only seems to work in population heavy zones like WvW Eternal Battlegrounds; it doesn’t occur in the Heart of the Mists.
