Just wanted to add that the defaults command that’s been suggested works but it’s kind of using a cannon just to kill a termite.

You can make only the Library folder visible with the following command:

  • chflags nohidden ~/Library

Not that you don’t need to restart Finder for that to take effect.

Other than that: this thread (or another with the same or similar reset instructions, maybe illustrated?) should be stickied.

OMG you just saved my life for GW2 and Minecraft

Million Thanks x

Fixed my grey screen issue. Hope this doesn’t happen each time I enter a cut scene. Thanks Useless Tactics!

If you can’t find Guild Wars 2 folder, use this:

- Open Finder
- Press CMD+Shift+G
- Enter “~/Library/Application Support/“
- Then press “Go”

Hope this helps.

Thank you for this information!
This fixed my issue, which was a black screen with the cursor visible and turning in to a hand when hovering over where the character normally is displayed. Not sure if that is the same thing as the gray screen, but I figured it’s worth tossing out there.

This worked for me as well! Thanks a lot!

I have gone to the folders indicated, but the confusing this is that when I install everything there is no physical folder at all. Checked every folder and did everything indicated in this thread. It is acting like the folder only exists like a USB which can be ejected. The more confusing part is that I can still get to the black screen where sound and my characters exist. Can someone tell me what is going on with this thing? lol

I just found that this also seems to fix the issue with purchasing gems on the gems store (with credit card). Despite the fix on Oct 1, I was still unable to purchase gems on my mac client, but this has now been fixed and I’ve been able to purchase gems through my client for the first time since the summer. FYI, you need to reset all of your UI settings afterwards unfortunately (since this seems to wipe all that out as well, other than what is saved server side). Thanks guys!

Michael,

There is a current problem that has been introduced in the most recent (18-March-140 patch, and this solution doesn’t address it.

The bad patch can cause grey-screens if the crash is hard enough, but this is just your machine resetting and it should come up in a moment.

Seriously annoying, however.

No folder in Application Support called “Guild Wars 2” anything for me either. I’ve seen other people saying the same thing.

You’re in the wrong Application Support folder then. There are multiple and you need your user one, which is hidden.

Open Finder then click “Go” in the menu bar now if you press and hold the option key you should see “Library” appear in the drop down menu under ‘Go’. Click Library, now inside there is an Application Folder support – and this is the one that should have a Guild Wars 2 folder which you can delete.
