Love the game, and was impressed with how well a Beta version was running — until the past week – ever since the one day event and the patches just before.

Now I seem to crash frequently – the errors/zones/issues are not consistent.

However, the past few days (since 11/20) I had a character I was unable to log into after a crash. It was a low level character, so I just deleted it and started a new one.

After working on the new one for for the past few days, now I’m beginning to experience the same problem with this character. It started with two crashes back to back; and now I receive this error and a black screen of sadness every time I try and log in to this character:

“A file was corrupted in the archive. Please run once with ‘-repair’!
A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause. "

Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities), and run this command:

  • open -e "/Applications/Guild Wars 2.app/Contents/Resources/CiderSettings.plist"

This should open TextEdit with a configuration file for GW2. Now look for the line that looks like:

  • <string>--cmdline ""</string>

and change it to:

  • <string>--cmdline "-repair"</string>

Save the file and run GW2. Now the welcome screen should show a new “Verifying Archiveā€¦” line of text. GW2 will download any files needed to fix itself then it should launch.

Last step is to edit the configuration file again to change the modified line to its original state.
