I was running Guild Wars 2 perfectly fine until recently (possibly after the update, I’m not entirely sure.) My entire computer has been freezing at random, this happens at no other time then when I’m playing Guild Wars 2 and has never happened until now. The amount of times i’ve had to manually hold the power button and turn off my computer is in the double digits by now. My system handles the graphics and preforms just fine so I’m positive it can’t be my computer, although some parameters are below recommended, I still get a clean cut 30+ fps when in a low- medium range graphic settings; and high 20’s while in medium or high. I wish there was an error code to go off of, but the entire computer just freezes and I can’t do anything. Any advice or help would be much appreciated, I’d like to continue playing GW2 as it is with out a doubt the best MMORPG I’ve played thus far, also the 2 copies I have purchased (one for me one for another) makes this all the more frustrating.
Thank you in Advance,
Knowmad

I was having the same exact issue you’re having. After the last update and while playing, my game and system was freezing while the music kept playing In the background. Like you I had to manually shut the mac. After some searching and digging, I found a thread with a tip for a similar problem and I must say that so far, I’ve playing with no problems at all.
In the finder press alt and through the go menu, go to your user library. In there go to /Application Support/Guild Wars 2/. Open the config (just to be safe, make a backup/copy of that file) and search (cmd+f) for the line “MTD3D”. Since the last update they changed the value to “4”, probably to improve performance but If you change It back to “0”, like me you should notice the difference which Is, you can keep playing without interruptions.
There’s another thread around here saying that If you change the value to 1, you get an improvement In performance (around 8/16 fps increase) but I haven’t test It myself.
So, I hope this helps like It helped me.
Cheers

Every once in a while my system would freeze like this. Clearing my PRam fixed it for about 2 days and then it came back. However, I eventually ran over by Farmer Eda in Queensdale and it completely locked me up. Every time I tried logging in same full system freeze with having to manually power off. This however got me going again.
Setting this to 0 fixed this for me as well.
Setting to 1 didn’t help.
