Check your firewall and router settings to make sure you don’t have a rule set up that might be blocking it.
I have also heard others mention to try waiting it out for a while to see if it finishes.

Another member informed me of an unfortunate situation in that it appears that the developers are no longer monitoring this forum. So I encourage you to submit tickets any time you have a problem with the Mac client. Hopefully if enough Mac users keep submitting problems that occur they might start looking into things.

This has been a recent issue with a few of the latest patches. You can try a ticket, although many devs on the PC forum have said just “let it run” after 10 minutes it’s supposed to try an alternative type action to restart it. I asked if this would work for Mac also and after 3 days, they responded and said it should, but if not, open a ticket (do check the sticky for that ok ). A few players noted that it took HOURS, one person stated they let it run overnight, but it was still stuck, he left it go and several hours later checked it again and it finally had finished.

Appreciate all the advice, I’m trying everything I can. I have a ticket open but so far they’ve only asked for all of my information. If I find anything that works, I’ll post it! I’ve already tried reinstalling, and that didn’t work.
Ok I’ve finally got it working – I changed the language in the top corner to French (Spanish didn’t work), and it re-downloaded the patch, and I’m at 100% and ready to play! I changed the language back to English and I’m ready to go!

I’m very glad you got it working and give you credit for finding and outside the box solution. I would have never thought of that. Perhaps if you see others posting here with a similar problem you will be willing to share your solution as well. I’ll quote what you said as well if I see people posting similar problems.

I would suggest that both of you submit a ticket to report the problem and how you solved it. This may be a glitch they are not aware of. It is a rather odd glitch though.
I hope you are both having as much fun with GW2 as I am. Oh and to boost, my new 27" monitor makes the game look amazing
I’m not even sure where I found this solution – I googled it and it was working for PC users, so I gave it a shot, glad I could help everyone!
Thanks for finding this Dragoon (ff reference, love it), I posted it on the PC tech support forums since several pc users there had this work as well. Hoping the devs see it and figure out why it works and to prevent the issue from occurring in the future.
