AMD R9 m290X
does that happen on other games? what drivers are installed?
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
I’d check with your laptop manufacturer about that. That’s not normal.
Check your refresh rate in your GPU properties – it should be set to 60Hz.
Right-click the screen > Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings > Monitor tab.
Hello, here I’m again!
The refresh rate was already set to 60Hz.
I don’t know if it happens with other games, but I’ll run a 3D mark after this post.
When the laptop uses the internal gpu from the cpu, it runs smooth (lower grapichs ofcourse) but the screen doesn’t flash like that.
The dirvers I’m using atm (sorry for the dutch):

Does your Laptop only have 1 290X or does it have 2 in Crossfire?
There is a reported Flickering issue with CrossFire on the 14.2 and 14.3 Beta Drivers.

I have just one.
I first tried the latest released version (not beta) but the laptop wouldn’t swtich to the AMD card I think. And if it did, I only had 1-3FPS at max so it was even worse then now.
I’ve read somewhere on a forum that the beta ccc gave better fps so I gave it a try… but they’re both still unplayable

So your laptop has the switchable graphics between the Intel and AMD GPU?
You might need to find modded Drivers for the Intel_SG Fix for it to work properly (I had to on every one of my laptops with a AMD GPU).

Hmmm is it a heating issue?
Windows 10
Here’s a good question and that I can’t see anywhere if it’s already been asked,
Does the screen flash in any other game when the M290X is being used?
Hello,
I just bought a new laptop and I got a huge problem with guild wars 2.
Processor is a I7 4th gen 4700MQ,
GPU is a AMD R9m290XWhen I start the game the screen starts flickering, I can select auto detect and the game will put itself on high. But the flickering stays. The FPS is around 60 but as you can see in the video below, it’s really unplayable.
You can find the video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l15jTkksjr4&feature=youtu.beDoes anyone has an idea how to solve this? I guess it’s the gpu driver but not sure…
Kind regards,
check if there are any updates for directx since the game is using dx9 libraries and you will have a new os that most the times not have all older dx libraries :
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
and also check if there is any update (drivers or profiles) for your vga drivers with amd’s auto detect tool

Hi, nop it doesn’t. He runs Battlefield 4 on ultra withouth flashes nor fps drops.
And redborn, I’ll try that out!
Stupid thing to check, had horrible effects in Grid 2 until I turned off the Vertical Sync settings in the game.
“I am not a complete idiot, there are some components missing still!” …

Drivers are up to date. Won’t install the DirectX installer with following error: “newer version is already installed on system. Installation cancelled”
And the V-sync on is a bit better but it won’t stop the flashing.
Isn’t there anyone else who’s playing with this card?
My system also sais I got a Ati 8970M instead of the R9m290x… I know it’s a rebranded one but still… because my bios says R9m290x.
Update:
I tried a few things, another evening spoiled and no gold earned!
I deleted the beta drivers (AMD Catalyst Control Center) and re-installed the once I got on the cd with my laptop.
Battlefield 4: Still playable in ULTRA.
BETA drivers: Couldn’t go back in game when I ALT+TAB out of it. I got a GPU error.
Released drivers: No problem with tabbing out and in game.
Guildwars 2:
BETA drivers: I could move with decent fps (around 50-60) but I had the flashing screen, so unplayable.
Released drivers: No flashing so I guess the problem lies within the drivers? But FPS of 1!, so still unplayable.
AMD Catalyst Control Center:
Beta drivers: It said I had an ATI 8970m
Released drivers: It sais I got an R9 m 290x so that’s an improvement I guess.

So it’s getting better… I guess
i did some research and i found that flickering can come from invalid voltage on the gpu chip ( Invalid Vddc ).
a quick tip : reset via “AMD Overdrive” disabling “Overdrive Graphics”
also i think that you installed the desktop drivers and not the mobile ones. so just run the cleaner amd tool : http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx
and after the restart choose a mobile amd driver . depends of the verion of OS , 32bit = http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows+7+-+32 or 64bit = http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows+7+-+64 )

This feels stupid but you were right,… the game run smooth now :/.
I can’t even imagine how a stupid error that was of me! Didn’t even knew that you could install the desktop version of it :/
a HUGE thanks for helping me out man!
