Hi all,

I am currently looking to upgrade my old gpu (gtx 760) to something a little newer and better.

Now I am looking into the GTX960 4gb, R9 280.

What would you guys recommend?

If you want an upgrade look at the gtx 970, the r9 390 or wait for the new Pascal/Polaris. Both the gtx 960 or 280 aren’t than big upgrades.

But apart from that, gw2 is not very gpu stressing, and that gtx 760 is more than enough to max the game.
You better look for a cpu upgrade.

Get a 380/x over a 4GB 960. 960s aren’t great buys in general but the 4GB models specifically are pretty overpriced.

Is the 970 and 380 that much better?

That CPU is fine. A 390/970 will be ~twice as powerful as a 760, generally a little less. A 960/380/380x will be a smaller boost:

Goes head to head between a 960 and a 760 to give you an idea. You can look around to see 960 vs 380/x and decide where to go from there

I have a 960 and I can play the game with everything on full and not miss a beat. I’ve never noticed any frame drops where the game would start to stutter. it’s all about how much money you have to spend, and what games you’ll be playing

you rly dont need to upgrade your GPU, its perfect for Gw2. and you also have an amazing CPU. just save your $$

I actually have a GTX960 4GB and I am very happy with it! I am not an FPS freak so I don’t count frames like a maniac but I don’t even lag during world bosses and meta events. That’s all that matters to me.

If you do not need 4GB of vRAM get a GTX950 instead. They are 130~ on newegg and will push GW2 at 100FPS+. The ONLY thing the GTX960 offers above the GTX950 is the 4GB vRAM, the 950’s only come in 2GB flavors.

Additionally, the 380x is the next step up before you get into the GTX970. The 380X is the BEST mid range card on the market, and are about 229~

Pascal was just announced yesterday, they are going to release a GTX1070 and GTX1080 and they are saying both will beat out a TitanZ (which is a GM200 based card just like the 980Ti) with the GTX1080 being 599 and the GTX1070 being 379. So this is another option if you can wait about 2-3 months for retailers to get them on hand.

Personally, I am playing with the idea of a GTX1070 IF benchmarks place the card at or above the GTX980 in performance, as the GTX1070 is going to offer 8GB GDDR5 RAM and cost below 400.

I have the 950 and couldn’t be happier. With it, GW2 is literally the most detailed, beautiful, and smoothest MMO I’ve ever played. I can have all the settings maxed at >60 FPS.
