I don’t see where the number of pages indicates anything. My conversation with Cerise spans at least two pages and does not add a single person to the list of bans. Several posts are repeats of information and people saying “still banned, what’s going on?” Others have had their accounts restored and have posted about it. This is not an 18-page list of names.

What is going on has already been explained – when an account has been compromised, it is locked until the owner can claim it. Most of the people banned for “assisting with RMT activities” botting and such seem to be people who Arenanet believes have been hacked or are deliberately working with RMT scammers. If the account was accessed without the owner’s knowledge or permission, an investigation will result in the return of the account to the owner. The cs agents require time to do their jobs and people who are posting multiple messages because they’ve waited 10, 15, 24 hours and are tired of waiting are not doing anything to help the situation.

It has also been stated that some of the appeals are done by those who knowingly engaged in these activities, probably in hopes that they can con their way through the system and get the account (and the gold in it) back. These “false false positives” rob the innocent people of the time it takes to investigate the ban and discover that it was in fact the correct thing to do.

I don’t know the ratio of innocent/guilty appeals. But if there are three actual botters followed by one innocent being investigated, what could take one hour will take four because the cs agent will waste three hours investigating the appeals by people who know that they were correctly banned.

I don’t blame the cs for the delays, if people were basically honest about what they are doing, then there wouldn’t be nearly so many problems with this in the first place.

I am 100% positive my account was not compromised. Even with my password, my friend was unable to log into my account without me clicking on a link to let him onto my account, also up until me being unjustly banned nothing on my account was missing or added.. Just the small amount of gold I’ve always had (that I paid Gems for)
I am 1000% positive that I have never engaged in any illegal transactions. Same goes for hacking, botting and any other ToS breaking activities. There is literally NO way my account could have been mistaken for an RMT account by anyone with even half a brain, and I do not appreciate you insinuating that my account was either compromised or i was cooperating with the RMTs. Neither is true. You need to accept that there are people who have been banned “permanantly” for literally no reason, and 10, 14, and 24 hours may be acceptable wait times for free to play games.. But not for a game like this where every one of these wrongfully banned people is a paying customer. (especially since in most of the cases here that have been resolved, it seems like it’s taken more like 72 hours.)

If they dont work then I know, I dont need to waste my time checking my account ever 3 hours to see if I’m still banned.

This thread was 14 pages yesterday and now i saw 18 pages!!! I am not banned “YET” but i just want to write somethng and support u guys who is banned innocently.This isue makes me not play game since my firend’s account terminated cuz of same issue 2 days ago.afraid to play this game cuz i can ban innocently too. Sorry to intrude in the thread, i haven’t been suspended but i wanted to share my opinions on the ban-wave that is scourging GW2.

Those that follows are my congectures and opinions.

First of all, i read about your activities, but i want to ask you, have you participated in obviously bot trains to get advantage of the faster loot? Like going from event to event in Orr, while in bot-only parties, only to get the karma/loot?

If i see a bot train, or even a single botter, i stop all activities and watch them, then report them and go away. This is a consolidated habit from other games (Ultima Online, for example), where GMs appeared at the very moment i reported the botters and usually unleashed their power on all people present…

This time, however, the GMs are not present. They see logs, they see your name doing the same activities. And then they mass-ban. You have to then prove your innocence, while being in the same place and time, doing the same things as the real culprits…

Then is the reinstatement: be sure that botters WILL submit a ticket to Support, and WILL plea for their case. They WILL swear their innocence. Why shouldn’t they?

I know this doesn’t sum all the cases in this thread, but most of them could have been hit in this way. Just be assured, when logs are then cross-examined, a real player is easily spotted (skill variation, dungeon armor, more than one weapon or pet present, etc.) and can easily be picked up from the botters that use the same patterns over and over.

I think that the step when your login message “changes” is this step, when they check your logs to be sure you’re a real player. If they go to unauthorized access, i think it is usually due to VPNs, proxies, or dynamic IPs or similar issues. They then release you (if you’re innocent).

So, i think i will stick to my present behavior to avoid bans, and hopefully when this banwave will cease, the real players, even the ones that were unjustly harassed by it, will have a cleaner game and an overall better game experience.

Best luck to you all for your reinstatements, at least for those that are really innocent

THe hilarious thin’ for me except the fact i was re.state in 30 hours approx, is that this morning, (here in Italy it is) before leaving to work i logged in after the message i was un-banned, the first thing i saw in game when i spwaned in middle o f cavern was a train of 5 running char all named ffggg , ggfgrgg, fggfgdd,hghhsd, all same level all same class.
LoL 5 bots givin’ me hallo after i came back in game. I have a screenshot too…

It’s not that simple always, the botters are becoming more inventive with char names. Anyhow, when I find a bunch of bots in an area I first study if they all run the exact same pattern, then I usually say something to give any present human players the chance to explain themselves, then finally I report the bots for botting and take a screenshot to backup my report.

Gives me much more accuracy on my bot reports, I think, and having done so I also sleep with a better conscience knowing I’m 99% sure it’s a bot and not a human player I contribute to banning.

Not really. 50/50~~ at best, they don’t cover ‘intangibles/digital items’. God I’m an idiot. But so far Arena haven’t even confirmed this, so I can’t dispute it with Paypal yet. I would love a quick reply that would take 5 minutes >_<’ Now the weekend is coming up and I’m only going to get more depressed.

If you can afford it, just buy the game directly from the official source always, it’s much less worrisome. If I were you and if you have the spare cash I would do that now and let your ebay dispute carry on in the background, it will take days to resolve that and in the meantime you can be playing in GW2.

Just avoid doing anything in the game that takes you near botters…

Checked my Inbox this morning and my account has be re-instated. It was terminated on November 6. I submitted a ticket the same day and received an acknowledgement from GW2 Support. The following day I received an email from them requesting further information which I provided. Another email from Support followed telling me that my case had been escalated. Then this morning came the good news.
The system does work – it just takes a little time. Having worked on an IT Helpdesk where I only had to deal with 450 users I would say three days to process my ticket is good service judging by the number of tickets on this forum alone.

Dude… we all appreciate your dilligence in trying to rid the game of bots. But seriously, giving human players the chance to explian themselves? Since when should any player have to do ANYTHING at the whim of another random stranger?

In all the MMOs I have played where botting has been an issue, there are people like you, with good intentions, saying things like “if you are not a bot, please say so now before I report you”. While this may seem like a good test at first, it fails when you think about all the possible reasons why a real player might not reply to you. Here are a few examples:

1. They just don’t want to reply to you because they are busy, or can’t be bothered, or because they shouldn’t have to – they assume ANet isn’t going to ban them based on an incorrect report;

2. They didn’t notice what you said. There may be lots of activity going on and their attention is elsewhere;

3. They may have blocked you.

ANet are asking for the community to report bots they find in game, which is to be encouraged of course. But it seems that many (and by many, I refer to the many people that are getting their accounts unbanned after several days, and those who are soon to have theirs also unbanned) innocent players are getting wrongly reported.

There is clearly something wrong in the whole assessment system, but please remember that just because a character is playing near an area where you think bots operate, it doesn’t make them a bot just because they don’t reply to you.

i on the other hand think this is exactly how they ban. otherwise, what is the point in ticketing if every account that got baned was already investigated? and how is it possible that some ppl get unbaned? only 2 possibilities here: 1) anet doesn’t investigate at all before ban or 2) ante has bad investigation first, then good investigation for tickets.

in any case its shoot first ask questions later

so yes please do help anet get rid of the bots, but make your investigation also before triger happy reporting.

we do not know infact how they actually ban “potential bots” , but if we all assume what you say is true , i think i might have to reconsider playing gw2 or even suggest anyone to play cause someone could just report me for not replying and i get banned for it .

most people i know hate being blame for something they did not do , its injustice . and i’d prefer you not making it sound like we all deserved it thank you

Personaly, my account has been restored. Support says my account was compromised. I think this is a lie since I MYSELF was playing the game at the time that i was blocked. As far as I know you can’t login twice with the same account. I did not use a progrmable keyboard or any macros or programs. I have a luxeed keyboard and a microsoft scroll mouse.

I had a complex long password. my password is now 26 characters long (no it is not the alphabet).

So I am not playing the game until I know why I was banned. I have asked what the code 45:5:1:779:101 means.

I could just go back to playing but why? If my account can be banned at random without explanation. I can’t trust that I won’t be banned again. I have read people account of seeing a bot and described normal play as a bot. they stated things like not touching the foe with a dagger but still hitting them. My warrior often strikes without touching the foe. The biggest complaint I have seen is mobs of Rangers with bows and bears. I don’t care about a single player the mobs are the problem as far as I am conserned. they wipeout everything. But I have not complained i have reported bots. I have reported gold sellers. I have tried to support the efforts of arenanet and will continue to do so. But I want the details.

I think the management needs to be more transparent about the problem and work with the regular players to solve the problem. A rare false positive isn’t rare to the person being banned. The process is flawed and the players can help if they let us.

I know I was not botting. I dont know why someone or a program thought I was. Untill I do, I will not play. I will keep asking why I was banned.

RMStrooper, if you already have a ticket open, I think the first thing you can do is check the ticket status and see if its updated to the new message. If its reflecting the new status, I would just follow up on the old ticket instead of making a new one.

I already posted about a similar experience I had before my account was reinstated.

“I tested with the help of my guild mates (over TS) and I discovered that every time I attempt to log in (and get stuck at the “unauthorized access” error) my name seems to appear in the game briefly but is grayed-out (as far as they can see).”

Either ANET trying to manually check on the account, or perhaps reset it, or just a glitch in the game system.

Nowhere in my sentences i imply that you deserved it. It is not my work, but Arenanet’s.

What i think about the bans on innocent people, is that maybe they got caught within a mass of other bots, i.e. farming trolls at Frostgorge while surrounded by bots, someone reported them all, you were included by error and got Dhuum-banned.

And remember, the ban couldn’t be for “the moment the screen turned black”. It could be related to an activity done days before. They investigate, and as it’s a human investigation it can fail.

If in the log you see

You could wrongly be considered part of the bot train, just because you killed the same mobs. That’s the reason because when i want to report someone, i stop all activities, don’t kill any mobs, only follow them and study their movements, then whisper them all and then report and GO AWAY IN ANOTHER ZONE.

Be sure i never reported people if i haven’t be sure 100% they were bots. Don’t ask me how i would be sure, because you all know: same movements, exact to the inch, 180° flawless turning, exactly in the same points, same patterns, etc. repeated for 15-20 minutes in the same places, killing the same mobs.

But i could be wrong; it could be one elaborate bet of these players that they can mimic one other perfectly; it could be some roleplayer theatrics jig.

In my experience, the ban-wave is working, at least on my server. I symphatize with the innocent players wrongly caught in these bans, but you will have your account back and play better without bots, of this i am confident.

Tonight, after playing from a Dunkin Doughnuts for about 30 minutes while waiting for my daughter’s art class to end, I came home and attempted to login only to find my account had been permanently terminated for botting… I have NEVER botted in my life, what the heck? I wouldn’t know how to do it if I wanted to.

I would really like to know what it was that made them think I was a bot. Considering the fact that I have reported NUMEROUS bots (aka nude archers) I think it’s pretty ironic that I’m getting blocked for botting.

Anyway I just submitted a ticket but reading here that it will take 2-3 days to fix makes me sad…

I had the same issue: my “false ban” ticket turned into a “hacked account” ticket and the log in error message changed from being “banned” to “unauthorized access”. However, a few hours after that, my account was reinstated and password reset and I was able to log in.

Sorry to intrude in the thread, i haven’t been suspended but i wanted to share my opinions on the ban-wave that is scourging GW2.

Those that follows are my congectures and opinions.

First of all, i read about your activities, but i want to ask you, have you participated in obviously bot trains to get advantage of the faster loot? Like going from event to event in Orr, while in bot-only parties, only to get the karma/loot?

If i see a bot train, or even a single botter, i stop all activities and watch them, then report them and go away. This is a consolidated habit from other games (Ultima Online, for example), where GMs appeared at the very moment i reported the botters and usually unleashed their power on all people present…

This time, however, the GMs are not present. They see logs, they see your name doing the same activities. And then they mass-ban. You have to then prove your innocence, while being in the same place and time, doing the same things as the real culprits…

Then is the reinstatement: be sure that botters WILL submit a ticket to Support, and WILL plea for their case. They WILL swear their innocence. Why shouldn’t they?

I know this doesn’t sum all the cases in this thread, but most of them could have been hit in this way. Just be assured, when logs are then cross-examined, a real player is easily spotted (skill variation, dungeon armor, more than one weapon or pet present, etc.) and can easily be picked up from the botters that use the same patterns over and over.

I think that the step when your login message “changes” is this step, when they check your logs to be sure you’re a real player. If they go to unauthorized access, i think it is usually due to VPNs, proxies, or dynamic IPs or similar issues. They then release you (if you’re innocent).

So, i think i will stick to my present behavior to avoid bans, and hopefully when this banwave will cease, the real players, even the ones that were unjustly harassed by it, will have a cleaner game and an overall better game experience.

When I was banned I was not near another player I had not seen any obvious bots during the session. I was exploring and looking for platinum. i was not and never have botted or used macros. yet I was banned during game play. I have been restored without valid explanation. (they say my account was compromised) I had a 13 character password. and now it is 26 characters. I am new to MMO gaming but not new to computers. This process is flawed. Players should at least know why they were banned. If it was a mistake it should say so in the support log.
If I can be banned knowing I did nothing, why invest time and money and be banned again?
I think you provide good advice but based on my experience you could be banned too. You are making assumptions that this is a reasonable process I think it is a program that is not quite tuned yet and may never be. I accuse arenanet of botting.

40 hours and counting since I got the mail that it was getting looked into… Suspended due to account issues… What issues!? The money for the game has been deducted from my bank account… so what is the issue?
So my estimate is that the entire weekend is gonna go before I actually get to play for the first time, which sucks. Never had anything like this happen before.

So I am not playing the game until I know why I was banned.

Good luck with that. I kept my ticket open and specifically asked if my account had been accessed by someone else (despite no email messages), or if it was a mistake on their part. Nobody would give me a straight answer. The closest I got was this message spitting back to me the 2 possibilities I asked about.

“Hello xxxxxxxxxx,

The answer to your question is, your account may well have been accessed by a third party. I recommend checking your account.guildwars2.com page for recent activity. Another possibility is that efforts to purge third-party gold farming operations picked up your account by mistake.

In either case, changing your login password to something unique is always a good idea following a compromise. Please be sure not to tell anyone else about it.

I have a very hard time believing that all of this was looked at by a real person before they clicked a ban button. If it is indeed so easy to reinstate peoples accounts, why is there no careful diligence in investigating beforehand instead of inconveniencing the innocent and doing it afterwards instead. To further be given no clear explanation for why it happened just makes people angry and question their account security.

I don’t expect a perfect process to pick up people doing bad activities. What I do expect is for that margin of error to never come near the blurry line between illegal and innocent. In my opinion, this is the biggest flaw with the whole system. Go after the undeniably guilty first and perfect your system from there. If a few bots are allowed to remain because of it, that is a much better option than locking me and other innocent people out of the game for a few days.

If someone does actually want to give me a straight answer about why this happened:

After that i sent 2 or 3 mail for the support without any luck( i didn’t opened multiple tickets ).

after that i got this answer:
“ok, so after looking a little bit I see that you had an answer for your incidence 9 days ago saying that it was escalated and then, 7 days ago, you received the “awaiting” review answer. This means that it is still not closed so I would recommend you to post it again in the following thread, explaining your situation up to this point.”

Yes thanks CPT Obvious. That was what i said 7 days ago i wrote to the review topic for some info but a forum reply is not enough after 13 day. Thanks for nothing and thanks for continue ignoring me. I waited enough for any response.
I don’t know why you are doing this but im a customer i paid for this game so i want answers finally!

P.S.
I don’t know how can you call this pathetic thing to support service
and yes this is a negativ comment because im a RMT worker, bot user, thief(not ingame…).
Thanks for the support team for this experience. This kind of ignoring is priceless.

Still banned how long does it usually take for them to get back at a ticket being submitted with a reply email? I’ve been playing this game everyday since launch and if that’s why they banned my character then I’ll stop playing as much. I guess farming in the plinx grind probably had a few bots in it but it’s the only way I know how to make money efficiently I don’t know how to work the auction house well.

I totally agree with you 100%, I think soon this game will be playable only by bots cause their glitchy ban bot is banning all the REAL gamers.

I don’t agree with Arena nets approach to this problem and the massive disconnect they have from their fans/customers via Customer Service. Pitiful….

Just a question…….
If Your favorite music artist spits in your face for no reason and blames you for being …i don’t know.. ugly…the first time u get to meet him/her and you’ve been listening to their music for years, Would you still listen to their music and continue to support an artist that clearly doesn’t care about their fans/customers???

The question was to get you people thinking about how truly disrespectful these cases are.. Arena net is dragging their feet with a proper fix and we the consumer suffers for their shortcomings..

Anet spits in our face by banning our (Paid for, if i may add) accounts and offers NO explanation as to why they feel that way to take those actions on someone who PAID for the game (No warning in-game or anything)J Just. BOOM Banned!!! all of a sudden…. and after Anet finds out they are wrong about you and 2 to 15 days later unbans you account they give you NO explanation as to why you were banned in the first place.. so RUDE!

Second time banned in 2 weeks… Not A Happy Customer!! :-(

i just wanna play a awesome game on my free time like everyone else. Im taking nothing way from the Gameplay cause its amazing…. AND i could acually tollerate the bots running around, i really dont care… I just wanna play…. is that so hard to understand ANET…

Read your forums! ANET!! help people that reach out to you proving that they are REAL and not BOTS..

you could tolerate the bots? lol. I couldn’t. I hope they all get banned. And I know ArenaNet is trying hard to ban all of them but they should be careful and make sure that the character they are banning are real bots.. not actual players. I really don’t know how they have confused me of being a bot since I don’t move in patterns.. Anyways it has been 1 day and 12 hours since I made a ticket and still no answers..

I am now nearing the 24 hour mark of my ban with my ticket still marked as Unresolved. At least I’m getting work done early over the time that I’m banned.
