Buying HoT through a 3rd Party? Careful!

Hey all,

Heart of Thorns is currently only available offically to purchase through our purchase site and in-game through the gem store. There have been a number of 3rd Party websites/services offereing Heart of Thorns for sale, and many of them are currently not officially authorized to do so.

These sites are most likely getting their keys through fraudulent practices, which means there is a VERY high chance that if you purchase from these websites that the key will be disabled shortly after. This will result in your account being closed for fraud, and Customer Service will require that you purchase HoT though legitimate means before you can access your account again.

For your account’s sake, please be careful when purchasing your HoT key through a non officially authorized 3rd party.

To clarify:
The only way to officially Pre-Purchase right now is through the official GW2 website, or in-game. This does not cover Pre-Ordering, which may exist on a number of reputable resellers. Pre-Purchase and Pre-Order are different.

www.bol.com is not fraud. They are just a clever and anticipating site, who are good at guessing upcoming content and it’s price. (Just saying if you mean this website). They don’t have a delivery date though, but for that they are looking at you.

Also you make me crazy confused now: ‘only available tru our website’? Wtf next week there should be boxed true certified retailers. Are you telling me i won’t be able to buy HoT PHYSICAL box in my shop (certified) next week?

That is not what he is saying at all. He stated, “currently”, meaning right now or at the moment, the only official way to buy HoT is through the GW2 web store or in game gem store. That doesn’t mean they boxed versions won’t be available in the future (it was announced in the FAQ June 23rd) through retail stores.

There are a number of scam sites out there selling HoT keys right now. That is what he is referring to.

From the very FAQ you linked:

Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?

Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners

The red post you quoted was an answer to someone asking if there would be a collectors edition.

Pre-Purchase and Pre-Order are different.

This, is the fun part as your PR service use one for the other like “Pre-Order HoT now to get the core game.”

Until you clarify the fact that the core game included in the bundle is submitted to restrictions (pre-purchase and using a new account) in your store, I won’t buy it.

So far, your offer in the shop is misleading.

The question is, ¿do you guys really want us to buy in your store? I honestly doubt it cause i didnt see any change yet in your prices or deals… Changes that I did saw in a lot of retailers…

No it’s not. If you read the full article he is telling everyone to be cautious of bogus websites claiming they have a Pre-Purchase already when they don’t – which can be a security issue for people’s accounts.

7 Days exclusivity is actually only a very short amount of time before it hits retailers, which is very reasonable I must say. They didn’t have to place Pre-Purchase to any retailer if they wanted to.

Ok lemme rephrase the confusion:

FAQ says ’23th july (next week already, so stupid to talk in past when that moment is almost here), you will be able to buy boxed pre-purchase edition, except ultimate.

Chris ‘currently only tru website pre-purchase’. Currently + only gives this a negative message, like they intend to clarify you can’t do something when you expect to. I went on hunch i can’t pre-order (next week an ACTUAL ORDER so closeby that it shoudl be included in Chris post). Or that i can pre-order without pre-purchase bonus. But all of this in the FAQ Says you can do it.

To keep the question simple: the FAQ basically states that next week, normal/deluxe version (not ultimate) will be available EVERYWHERE except in non certified retailers with pre-purchase bonus. This counters your post with ‘currently only’ + some words in a sentence. Plz nulify this confusion. Thanks.

Sorry but this important. Another question Chris (ask Regina, gem shop compartiment or marketing department depending on who is responsible): When will the upgrad function from normal to deluxe version become available in cash shop? (Aka buy 50$ version, get 2000 gems (?), pay them, become deluxe).

How does that contradict itself?

Currently you can only pre-purchase HoT online. In the future on a specific, already specified day, it will be available in certain other places. That’s not a contradiction.

Currently means now. In the future is not now.

As in, until said date, those stores should NOT be selling HoT. NOW is only available on the GW2 site. That is it. When that date comes, then it will also be available from authorized retailers, which will be on that date in the future.

There is no confusion. Now is NOW, as in today. Tomorrow is not now.

“Some sites are good, some are bad, but we will not give you all the good ones so just try your luck or buy for more at our store..”
Many people got their account suspended now!
Why did Anet not made an official point on this thing and told exactly where to buy and where not and why did they not communicate this on front page news, but do we need to delve deep into the forum for this?!
And if this was not possible, why do they suspend the accounts off all these VICTIMS without giving any support, information or warning at all?!
This is not how you threat the community Anet!

When some person has a key that stolen or from fraud and use it Anet do not know if person that use key stole it or buy it. So they have to suspend until figure this out. That the way it work and make sense. You are not victim of Anet but victim of place you buy bad key from. You complain should be with place you buy key.

This is literally the poorest way of bringing such news to players, to be honest.
Not every player is on the GW2 forums, In fact, this is my first time visiting them too.
This is the kind of things that you put in a BLOG post and have show up in your game launcher.

On top of that, they are not even clear about the issue. As if they don’t even know what 3rd party websites are authorized and which aren’t.

And what if they missed a site that’s good? What if a site is legit when they review it but then starts stealing keys due to change of management? So they only keep a list of authorized sellers and don’t maintain a list of middlemen between the authorized sellers and players.

And they suspend the accounts because ANet does not know if the player is a victim or a willing participant in the deal. And those who would steal keys would lie and say they weren’t aware the site dealt in stolen keys, so asking about it wouldn’t be a good solution.

Where do you read that I say I am a victim of Anet?! Don’t put words in my mouth that I did not use!

However, If you consider that the core game was good for 3 years and now got suspended because of another key, and the lead game supporter stated this was a termination error, and support won’t help, then yes, you could say we are also victims of a mistake by Anet.
Furthermore support does not think/say we are a fraud or stole the keys, they say themselves that “the code in question was purchased from an unauthorized reseller.” It is only about them not having authorized that seller, the rest are speculations.

They should INFORM the user first that his key is not good and just not activate HOT (or downgrade AND give information). Also, they should NEVER suspend the other part of the account (core game). Communication is important. the lack is what gives everyone problems and also the time it takes to even get response or a solution. They should know about it by now, and they should have a list with affected players, so they can fix this scenario for everyone (downgrade the account instead of suspension).
If someone is playing for years on that account and has bought gems with it, changes are big it is not an fraudulent account!

And how is ANet supposed to know? There’s still a chance the player was aware that it was a fraudulent key. So the player who can’t afford to buy gems gets to have his account suspended while the one who can doesn’t? That’s unfair to the person who can’t afford to buy gems. They’re just as legit as the one who can.

The only fair solution is to treat every account the same. Because there is no litmus test that will determine whether accounts are legit or fraudulent with 100% accuracy.

I have never said to treat accounts with or without gems different.

Anet knows it is good since that player has been legit for all these years. I also don’t think an account that was actively used and was good for 3 years will suddenly be used by hackers or scammers to add a HOT key (that already includes core).
Point is that core key is good, expansion key is not. They should draw the line there.

And how would a player know he has a fraudulent key? I don’t think a key-generator or such exists, and I don’t think that if you buy a key they will tell you it is fraudulent.

Some do. Through the Ultimate Collection for the 4000 gems to convert to gold to give their gold buying clients. Hence why a delay was put in place for the handing out of the gems.

You said that players who have bought gems should not have their account suspended if they buy a fraudulent key. That’s treating those who can and those who can’t differently.

People should research any site they buy from to make sure it’s a legit site that doesn’t sell fraudulent keys. If a person uses a site that has a rep for selling fraudulent keys knowingly or unknowingly, then they shouldn’t be surprised if they find their account suspended for buying a fraudulent key. Because they chose to use a site that they knew sold those keys or didn’t take the time to research if they did.

There’s a mixture of suspend and HoT access removal because it is possible to just buy HoT without having the core game. Those without a separate core GW2 key likely get suspended as they don’t have a legit key. Those with a core GW2 key likely just get their HoT access removed as they have a core game key that’s legit.

I had the Core game for 3 years and upgraded with a supposingly fraudulent key and I have my full account suspended.

Buying HoT through a 3rd Party? Careful!

oooh, so this was the place where someone from Anet told something about better not buy from 3th party.

Then how are you able to post in the forum? Account suspension usually also includes lack of forum access.

Either way, I’d contact support and go wtf, my core game key is legit, why am I fully suspended?

Seemingly you can be suspended, unable to access the game, but still login to your account page and post on the forum, for some reason.

My HoT Expansion was revoked, which I understand and have no problem with, but the suspension in my particular case is just full out rediculous and all GW2 Support has done so far is confirm that I added a fraudulent HoT key and told me they will probably not even answer on further questions regarding this suspension.

So I’m sure you can imagine the things that are going through my head right now.

I’d probably be just as angry as you are about the situation.

But keep up with Support. And if you get the no more replies response too many times, post in the GW2 tickets for review. It’s also the place to appeal support decisions. You just have to make sure you’ve gone through the full process.

I hope they give your access to the game back sooner rather than later. And that is really weird that it’s just a game suspension and not forum as well since those usually go together.

They would not hack an account and upgrade it, they would simply create a new account (with fake information on it) with the HOT key.

You said that players who have bought gems should not have their account suspended if they buy a fraudulent key. That’s treating those who can and those who can’t differently.

Where? I do not read that in my posts.

The site has the status Good in trust reviews. There is a relatively good amount of good reviews compared to bad ones.

There’s a mixture of suspend and HoT access removal because it is possible to just buy HoT without having the core game. Almost everyone who got suspended already had the core game for a long time. There were only a few that got HOT removed as it should have been for everyone. It was addressed by the game lead support (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-7-days-older-1/page/9#post5655004) as an error, but only that 1 person got his account back that way as far as we know.

Then how are you able to post in the forum? Account suspension usually also includes lack of forum access.

Either way, I’d contact support and go wtf, my core game key is legit, why am I fully suspended?

Account and forum access is still possible. Also the core key is still linked and even active. HOT is not active. And only the game client is suspended.

I think we almost all contacted support already 3 days ago, and some made multiple tickets since they told they would not replay on the first ticket anymore due to it being for a non authorized key. Support ignores the part of being suspended and/or the fact that we had a valid core game and only reacts on the HOT key. That is why some people made a second ticket or went to the forum for unsolved tickets.

New accounts have restrictions on what you can mail. This includes gold. Hacked accounts do not have those restrictions unless they get unlucky and hack a new account.

And this post (with the bold being my emphasis):

If they answer your ticket with this (and clearly did not read what you wrote) creating a new ticket about the core game instead of HOT is almost the only thing you can do.

That is often a semi-automatic reply. I got it on all my ticket responses when my account was terminated. Just keep updating your ticket, because creating a new, duplicate ticket only slows down the process; they will just add the new ticket to the old one, eventually, but in the meantime the new ticket will generate the same automated replies.

Or, do as you feel is best. Those of us familiar with how the CS Team works can only offer advice.

Good luck.

Sadly I had to much experience with the support team in the last 3 years.
At first they were helpful and fast (really very good support at that time), but then they got some “media” or “how to handle public” or something training, and now you get these semi-automated replays that almost never actually are about the question you had. It even feels like they just don’t read them. Usually after asking several times to help you, they read the problem and help. What I also experienced is that writing when angry or trying to explain the whole problem does not help. A very simple line, very polite, almost even begging, is often the fastest way to get it fixed.
If the client has to wait to long, maybe the system is wrong, there is a lack of staff or (and I don’t mean to imply this, it just is a possibility) there is a lack of competent staff.

However, it comes as no surprise to me that it’s Gaile Gray doing this. She always was a great link between the ArenaNet developers and the players.

However after reading her say that we have to appeal our suspension to support, I am even more upset about the pointless replies most of us have received from GW2 Support.

I follow you 100% on this one.
Some developers or all of them don’t work during the weekend I heard (they also need some days off), so I guess that’s why it took so long. If only support could have given us similar information as to what Gaile said…
The way support works or is allowed to react, really could improve. It’s all about communication.
