Character Stuck Crash
I’ve had a similar experience a couple of days ago and was able to fix it myself by logging into one of my other characters and drastically changing the audio setting in my game settings. Give it a try, just go to audio and look at the sliders near the bottom. Slide them to the opposite side of where they are now and restart the game and try to log-in to your character.
Next suggestion, if the audio change doesn’t work, is to try and do a repair of the GW2 game files. You may have a corrupted file in there hence the “Fatal Error: Fatal disk-error (23) on read”
Can’t remember the process but I believe it was mentioned somewhere on a GW2 forum so just do a Google search for Guild Wars 2 repair.
Hop that helps

Hi ReanSean – At this time I would recommend deleting your local.dat file (navigate to Documents\Guild Wars 2) and then run repair. If you’ve never run repair before I’ve provided the steps below for you:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.
Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” to start the repair process.
Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again.
oh my. i woke up and someone leave a gift beside my bed. well it feels like it.

Try downloading the GW2setup.exe, and do the following:
- Copy your Gw2.exe file to another location or name it something like "Gw2BACKUP.exe
- Change the name of GW2setup.exe to GW2.exe and place it in the Guild Wars 2 folder.
- Try to run the game with the -repair function.
Not sure if it works, but it’s worth a try.

Finally someone having the exact same issue as me. Here are two error logs generated by my client. The first is just running the game normally, and the crash happens after choosing a character and during the loading screen. The second error is when attempting to use -repair with the shortcut. I’ve even followed the above mentioned steps about deleting the local.dat and such. Also note that this error happens far more frequently when the graphics settings are on Auto-detect or Maximum Quality (which both generate the same settings on my system), but will still happen (albeit much less often) on Maximum Performance.

Have reinstalled the game completly 2 times, but it only works for half a day.
Today Gw2 Froze on area launch, so I followed the Repair protocal, and recived this

I’m at a loss, I’m no tech or programmer. I love Gw2, but need some dire assistance

Hello, all! Error 23 is a Windows code for “Data error (cyclic redundancy check)”, and it means that the data was corrupted on your hard-drive after it was written.
If you’re receiving this error, I suggest that you try running your manufacturer’s diagnostic utility on your hard-drive to confirm that it’s in good condition.
Did this problem get solved for anyone already? I tried to repair it as well but during the repairing process I got the same error..Also tried to reinstall it twice and that didn’t help either.
now theres two character stuck in there. i tried the fixing thing with my hard drive. scandisk etc. it doesnt help. T_T this is really… both of my character are stuck in lonars pass.
I also get the same error when i try to repair, the disk also shows no errors when i tried to repair it in windows.
HAH i fix it. freaking error. i deleted the .dat data in my documents of guildwars. Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat
and completely uninstall guild wars 2.
and do fresh install. wait until the patch its done. 15 gigs of it.
like Paul said the error 23 is our data corrupted. im assuming some of the latest patch i dont know which screwed up our data. at least on my end. so clean install will work regardless. -repair wouldnt work since the client patch will crash before it can finish. again, at least on my end. i hope they will find a better way to do this. but for now i hope this solution will help someone.
I’m having this issue as well. Error 23, that is. I’m running the -repair thing now crosses fingers My hard drive is brand spankin’ new just for this game, so it should be fine, unless somehow GW2 has messed it up. Hoping the repair works for me, as I see it hasn’t worked for some of you!
And the repair just crashed. Looks like I had no luck, either.

Put/install GW2 on a different/separate hard drive & try again. Cyclic redundancy check error is a good indication your hard drive is on it’s way out.

Still got this problem, and my hd is fine. It came after a patch. Any fixes yet?
I seem to get this one random.
First time it happen I try to read a book called “The elder dragons” it crash so bad that I coud not load any toon no matter the zone, I try repair the game, it crashed at repair.
Redownload fix it, but then I got it doing random stuff, like opening map, but I coud log back in.
Now I got it once more, was trying to see the things has to do for daily, and now once more cant load a toon.
And I run a test on disk, there is nothing wrong with it, and all other games and software runs fine.
