Connection error(s) detected. Retrying...
Hi, I had the same problem. The solution for me was that to delete this line from the hosts file.
174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
or just put a “#” at the begining of the line like this
#174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Having same error the change in hosts didn’t fix the problem for me.
Yup, has happened to me in the previous 2 patches as well. It will work randomly at some point.
What’s more annoying is you can’t close it to retry w/o using task manager.
Flushing DNS/restarting router doesn’t resolve this or editing the hosts file.
same issue and I also have ATT. Been trying to download it for 24 hours now. I just wanted to play with my friend
(edited by CaidoAngeL.6438)
I also have AT&T. Does everyone else having this issue have the same ISP?

I have AT&T too.
+1 Had the issue last patch day.
and again today.
ATT in Michigan.
This would strike me as a network saturation issue. being the problem last time went away around 2am EDT.
Anet you might want to have your ISP/ Host company talk to their channel providers about the issue.
It may be something as simple as a router port beginning to fail or a miss configured route. Or it could be something else that is only noticed when traffic is at saturation levels (Patch day)
I suggest this because I used to be a network admin guy and presently work for a server hosting company, with ties to cogent, ATT, Comcast and I forget who else for the 150GB fiber pipes in and out of the company

AT&T Uverse in Ohio. I have the same issues. Also not sure if this is related as well but in game lag is terrible. My Machine is fairly decent so I pretty sure it isn’t that. It runs other games flawlessly.
I have Verizon Fios and am having this same exact issue. I’ve done the below with no effect:
- add this line to hosts: 174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
- removed the above from hosts when it didn’t work
- configured to Google DNS
- created a shortcut client with -repair at the end
- full uninstall/install. the install won’t even connect to patch
I just ran a shortcut with -diag and this is what returned:
= Checking server connectivity

maniac laugh… this has been an issue since around last october. I wish Anet would get their kittens together.
Grievance [GVNC] – Our drunken WvW is the kitten
Devona’s Rest – Forever Outnumbered & Kittened upon by Anet
AT&T in Missouri… same issues (down-load speed drops to 0 kbs, down-loader becomes unresponsive, etc.). Have not had this issue before.
(edited by Bozak.7845)
ATT as well, stuck at 0KB/s and I cant patch the game.
My buddy with ATT a few houses over has the same issue.
I am on google DNS, screwed with hosts file, nothing changed.

Same problem here. I even turned off my firewall and that didn’t help except for 10 seconds. Anet please fix this problem. Can’t play.
ISP providers can determine just where it is a given internet user connecting and shape their own network accordingly. As example NETFLIX was being throttled by verizon which made the experience of some version customers trying to use Netflix unbearable.
Now different jurisdictions have different rules as to what they allow their network providers to do but generally the source of the problmes lies with the ISP providers and the rules set by various governments to regulate those providers. (in the USA the FCC here in Canada the CRTC)
Some years ago Wow users in Canada that were using Rogers as an ISP found they could not patch their games as throttling would time them out. The provider is never going to openly admit they do this when a person calls in for support. The Canadian Gamers Association filed a complaint with the CRTC which resulted in providers backing off on the practice.

Except that is complete bullkitten for those in the US. With the recent FCC ruling on net neutrality.
edit* – and as an update, my patcher still isn’t working. Hope anet sort’s this crap out. I’ve provided them with my whole diagnostic scan and still have to receive feedback. It sure as hell ain’t my ISP as I have even tried my own private VPNs.

my friend have the same issue, and the downloading patch stuck at 40 ~ 50 MB and won’t continue more than that keep getting “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…”
it’s been more than 12 hours now for him,,, and he still cannot play
lol
Any update on your status OP? having same problem over in Nevada with cox communications
Almost 24 hours later and I am still having the same issues. I have not been able to log on since Monday evening.
>>Except that is complete bullkitten for those in the US. With the recent FCC ruling on net neutrality.
The FCC ruling is immaterial. It does not prevent a provider from throttling users nor does it prevent them from putting caps on how much data a user can download per month. It means that the provider can not discriminate on the type of user in such matters giving priority to one over the other.
I myself have no issues updating GW2. I have never had that issue. Why?
One workaround those Wow players used when they were having their own issues was taking their computers to a neighbors so as to use a different provider for the patch. They could instantly patch.
I am not saying the ISP the issue. I am saying it a possibility that needs to be eliminated and in instances like this you can not count on that ISP provider to give accurate answers. A person above pointed to a network saturation issue and it can well be that but this would still be on the provider and not Arenanet.
As to using VPN. This is not foolproof. The VPN encrypts the traffic so it harder for the provider to determine what data is being sent but the encryption is relatively weak and the amount of traffic moved can still be measured. (if you have a download cap of 100 GB data a month as example using VPN does not hide the amount of data you are downloading)
So back to the case in Canada. When it was learned traffic being throttled by that provider they claimed they incorrectly identified that WOW traffic as P2P traffic which is why it was throttled. P2P is used by people that use bit torrent to download massive files many of which violate copyright laws.
