same thing with tonites update.
I am having the same difficulties.
It’s happened before – I think it’s either a corrupt source file on one of the replicas or the servers can’t cope with the demand for very large files –
Some people say they have no problems at all – I think if you have really high dl speeds, it is no problem, but if you only have about 500k average dl like me, then it does time out – in my case, it repeatably times out at around 26MB / 27MB.
Would love to see ANet’s input on this….
And, after trying about 24 times, it finally succeeded.

I have the same issue with 57mbps download speed from my ISP. So speed shouldn’t be the case, it must be on their side.
I had this issue with a previous patch too….
a-net response was as follows :
The instructions below will change the way Guild Wars 2 connects on your network. In short, this will force all inbound and outbound data to use port 80. Since port 80 is a very common port, it usually has the least amount of issues with transmission of data. To do this:
Locate the file “GW2.exe” and right-click it, selecting “Create Shortcut.”
Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end. Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes. — Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80 — Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes. If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 4 again.
Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.
It might work for you. Give it a go.
Alas ! It didn’t work for me
Thanks for the input Daisy – I tried that and unfortunately have the exact same result.
And thanks Abaddon for the update about speed.
Today there was another batch of updates – and guess what – the last file is doing the same thing again – at about 26/27MB, the dl speed spikes to 12M and then goes into freefall down to 0 within 30 seconds.
The first 380-odd files downloaded quickly but that last big file is just not coming down.
I guess I’ll keep trying – last time it only took about 20 restarts to get that last file down.
Same issue with me. I’ve tried again and again and again… My download counter now hit at least 1 GB. So i’ve tried more than 20 times already.
I’m at the point of giving up on this game….. It was a good run. started during the headstart before the launch. If I can’t get this fixed today, I’ll prolly just hibernate again for a few month when I get bored.
