After a long time with fps problems falling for no reason and randomly , For those with cpu with more than 4 cores I have tested this for 5 days and appears to be working https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3x8kop/psa_guild_wars_2_fps_drops_fix/

Only I returned to have FPS problems when the temperature of my CPU reached 60c

pc specs

cpu – fx 6300 3.5ghz
gpu – R9 270x 2gb
ram – 8gb 1600mhz

Tried it. Didn’t help. I saw no notable performance change. I experimented around a bit, shifting the processing to different processors or combination of processors. It was interesting to watch the CPU usage move around on the Task Manager though. That said, it was interesting to see the frame rate drop to around 10-15 FPS when I limited it to 1 processor. All of this seems to reinforce that the game is overusing the CPU and underusing the video card.

I’d suggest that Anet overhaul their graphics renderer so that more of the burden is pushed on to the video card where it belongs, but something tells me that A) that’s not gonna happen one way or another, possibly because B ) that would involve an almost complete rewrite of their game engine.

So I guess we’re probably just stuck with poor performance because of a badly written graphics engine.

after leaving only 4 cores active I have not experienced random fps drops, but it does not help improve performance for me just stopped lag because of fps

@Feeh your cpu is probably thermal throthling at 60, this could have many reasons including some other parts on y board. (just google fx 6300 thermal throttling)
At the moment your fps drops, your cpu is probably running only at 1.4 Ghz.
Leaving only 4 cores active will help a bit at start to keep the temps lower but after a while you will have the same problem.

I just cited the problem of 60 c + because here in my city did 30 ~ 40c, but usually my cpu is not above 52c, I’ve done some tests with all cores to 48 ~ 52c and still had drops in fps

This has become especially frustrating with the new Ember Bay updating coming around the corner. Hate to give up on the game, but for me its been already a week of this with no solution in sight and so far, support has been of no help.

Update: Seems the issue was with my processor, not the game itself as I previously thought. Or at least as far as I can tell.

So I just started having massive FPS drops since this last update. I had no problems until now. My specs are:

i5 6500 3.2GHz
GTX 1060 6GB DDR5
16GB RAM DDR4 2133Mhz

I run every other game in Ultra fluently (80-100fps), and have been doing so with GW2 until today. I get frequent drops to 1 fps or even screen freezes for a couple of seconds.

Just throwing my two cents in, my FPS improved with this last update, contrary to everyone elses’ going down.

Sys Specs
OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
CPU: FX 9590 at 5.5GHz
GPU: GTX 1060 Founders Edition
RAM: 32GB DDR3 2400Mhz
MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme9

In PvE consistently getting 115~120fps in open spaces, 110~115 underwater, 75~90 in LA, 25~30 in zergs during WvW. Everything in my system is custom liquid cooled, except for my HyperX Predator PCIe SSD, all temps never go above 40c

So I have been playing the game fluently at 80-90 fps for the past year. Last 2 months I was away and when I came back I had 20-30 fps only.
Nothing seems to affect it. Changing all settings from highest to lowest gives an increase in 1-2 fps.
Something seems to be off.
GPU: AMD r7 360
CPU: i3 4160
RAM: 16 GB DDR5
MOBO: asustek H81M-R
1 TB SSD
Win 10
BIOS updated to the latest, tried every trick and tip, nothing resolved the issue.

I can play new games like The Witcher 3 at Ultra on ~70 fps. I know GW2 is CPU heavy, but the single core of an i3 should spin it easily. The temperatures are alright, nothing is even near a high temp.
Any other tips I could try?

Sometimes but rarely the local.dat found in your user profile, found under “Users\[Your Name]\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2\” can get corrupted and often affects performance very negatively, you could try moving that dat file to your desktop and then have the patcher download a new one to make sure it’s clean.
