Main Warrior | Every other class at 80
I only play WvW
So i just built a new computer with even better specs than my old one
An asrock 970 pro3
AMD 8 core 8350 4.0 ghz
Radeon 7850 2GB
8 GB Ram
650W psu from Corsair
LOW temps with 100% fan use. Thats a 43 degree C GPU and CPU just as low with a watercooler on it My CPU cores are not parked either so they are all working.
I go from 50-100 fps to 5 fps every 10 seconds on the dot. In fact, GW2 doesnt even use all of my GPU, only less than 50% more than half the time.
Every time my fps drops i go down to about 8% GPU use as well.
I have spent over $200 on this game which I have a year and 3000 hours in game play time.
This is my all time favorite game, and I can’t take it anymore.
Here is what it looks like when my fps drops to 50 to 5 or 100 to 20
An even better picture of what happens. Completely unplayable
cyclical fps drop indeed indicates a heat problem, but you say your temps are ~43. How are you measuring it?
I doubt it’s a GPU issue but do you have the latest drivers?
You could try disassembling the whole machine, power cables that go into mobo and taking RAM and video card out of their slots, and then putting everything back to their place.
Just for the reference (even tho it’s not directly into this issue) what was your older machine like?
ill answer in order
1: MSI afterburner and HWmonitor shows 43-50 C at all times except idle
2: yep i’ve checked that a few times
3: kitten , maybe that would work i dont know…
4: It was a 6950 GPU with a 6350 AMD cpu and a 500 watt PSU same mobo and ram
I’ve had different results from HWmonitor, although not drasctically different, than some others- Try Real Temp or Core Temp, people seem to be suggesting those 2 over all else. Also run it without other monitoring programs as I’ve heard if two are trying to pull the same information out of the system it might give an incorrect one.
One possibility is that you’ve just got a defective chip. Do you have this issue in any other game? If you run a benchmark (3DMark for example) do you get a score way lower than the average?
I had an issue with battlefield 4. Other than that nope, every game runs very well at ultra high graphics and AA and all that jazz.
Havent done a 3dmark so ill try that
I honestly think its because this game only used 1 thread and its bottlenecking my gpu
Yeah, CPU is the bottlenecking part of every pc in this game. It shouldn’t drop your fps to 5 every few seconds though. A few weeks ago I upgraded from a system weaker than yours and it didn’t drop the fps, it just kept it steadily at low.
Ya its really making me mad you have no clue.
cdmark is almsost done downloading
running it now /15 chars
well amd just released mantle api with bf4 to relieve the cpu bottlenecks, so that might not be such a valid comparison. Unless mantle makes it into most games, i honestly can’t recommend any amd cpu/apu above 100usd over intels i series. even an good i3 might do better than that fx8350 in gw2 and most other games
boom, I had this score
Idk gw2 used to run perfect but now it runs like kitten. It is unplayable.. this makes me so sad honestly
The worse part is that i dont think theres a single way to fix this and if there is, i havent found one in 3 months of playing with it like this..
Above that click the Show Result Details and see the graph. Are you anywhere near the masses?
So this whole time ive been watching ostricheggs stream because im a mod and now that he went offline all my lag is gone.. okay then
I think my lag just disappeared after turning a twitch stream off. very odd.
hopes dashed, all the lag came back after 15 minutes
Btw you might wanna check the Fire Strike, Ice Storm is more for like mobile devices. Seems like you’re on the average anyways tho.
Have you tried repairing the game client? I might not work but it’s not gonna cost you anything. Do you have anything else running in the background? Try closing everything but essential OS programs and GW2.
how do i repair the client?
Thanks doing that now
To no avail once again. lag still persists. Thank you for bottlenecking my system… sigh
The ultimate solution is to reinstall the whole game, that should get rid of the possible software problems. And CoreTemp/RealTemp showed no different results?
One more test you can do is to set the graphics as well as the resolution to lowest possible (for test purpose, don’t worry) and see the issue still persists. If it doesn’t, up something and see what’s the situation now. Do this until it starts to happen again.
what about drivers
uninstall + driversweeper + restart + new drivers + restart
Do prime 95 and OCCT GPU – check temp
I’ve done driver uninstall and reinstall at least 6 times now.
I’ve done both of those tests and my temps stay good the highest they got were 70 C
Coretemp and realtemp show a min of 53 C and max 63 C
Resolution all the way down to the lowest it can be shows no improvement
just going to reinstall, probably wont help at all but i will try
Your using win 7 or win 8?
Get buldozer fix for this game
go to Bios set at 1 core per module

thanks, i reinstalled and im downloading the bulldozer. Hope it works
Nope, nothing. I even went in and screwed my cpu cooler in tighter because the 2 screws were a tad off.
Really kittened off now. ._.
Heres proof. Im just standing still and i drop from 30 frames to 8
Check your HDD/SSD
What could be wrong with that? How do i “check it”? Its been running fine downloading uploading etc
And still it is only this game that i get these lag spikes

drivers?
GPu drivers?
(edited by XFlyingBeeX.2836)
all drivers updated again.. no results
I even lag when i have the game in the background
heres an amazing +100 fps to 16 fps drop. GG
which drivers… try older drivers or beta drivers
Im using 14.1 beta drivers on my GPU
try older drivers
I have already done this in the past i promise.
Some people say its a HDD problem, some say its a PSU problem.
Well im honestly just going to blame the game here. If i can run every single game but this one at 100% graphics with 0 issues, it is not my fault
which PSU/HDD and how old is it?
Cyclical fps drop usually indicates heat a problem, but I read that someone said it could be RAM or HDD communicating with your OS. Did you pull the components out for a second or not?
Try opening the Task Manager while in game, make sure it stays always on top and run the game in windowed full screen. When those lagspikes appear does the CPU usage stay the same the whole time or bounce with fps?
As for checking your storage, you can run SpeedTest’s S.M.A.R.T analysis (or any other producer’s as well). RAM can be checked with Memtest86+, this requires a blank CD or USB stick and leaving your pc on for a night.
The last thing I can think of right now is clean install of your OS. I wouldn’t rush into this because only GW2 is causing problems.
I will do everything you said locx and be back with results. Thank you
And no i never pulled my components out..

I looked over this thread, but Im going to ask this question anyway.
When you performance Dives, are you watching your GPU’s Core Clock at the time? I have noticed on some cards ‘power saving’ can get enabled on the fly for a couple Microseconds, which can also do what you are seeing.
infact my HD7790 now does this. If I dont do a +4 to power in Afterburner, my Core Clock will bounce between 300Mhz and 1200Mhz every 12MS.
Just something else to consider.
that and the same as above, but for your CPU. To make sure your Multiplier locks at the base clock/Turbo and isnt going to pState5-7.
im watching my GPU usage in afterburner not the whole clock..
Power saving? Idk if i even have that enabled.. i hope not.
Ill try the +4 to power and “Just something else to consider.

I dont get this

Simply, your CPU has 7-9 physical stats.
P0 is your turbo/max Clock on the CPU
P1 is the highest non-turbo Clock on the CPU
p2 is about 75% of the Clock of P1
P3 is about 65% of the Clock of P1
…and so on, all the way down to P7/P9
PStats is also what power saving uses to ‘cool’ down your CPU and reduce the Multiplier. You can see this in action with CPU-Z, as it will show you the CPU speed as well as the Multiplier that is activity being used. In some advanced BIOS/EFI settings you can disable ‘auto Pstates’ and force the CPU to ‘Lock’ or ‘Pin’ to a specific PState to Lock in the Multipler. that would be the manual override.
As for your GPU, use GPU-Z’s Sensor Tab to visually look at your Core clock speed, as its a number and not a graph.
which PSU/HDD and how old is it?
PSU is a brand new Corsair 650W ATX12V / EPS12V
HDD is an old Western Digital WD Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
This is somewhat similar to what I am going through which for some reason just got moved/merged with the Latency thread. I didn’t build a new machine though. Last week (Like last tuesday or something) I started dropping FPS from like 30 or so to 10 or sometimes lower.
I thought my video card was finally just going out so I bought a new one, a Geforce 760. Same thing except now it goes from 60 FPS down to 10. Happens all the time though not a guaranteed 10 seconds like you have. I’ll work great for like 30 second and then hit 10-20 seconds of the 10 or so FPS. Doesn’t matter what resolution I use or what settings (i’ve tried turning everything as low or bad as it can go).
I’ve tried every resolution in game and on my desktop.
No other game does it.
So my question is, have you tried going back to your old PC and see if THATS doing it too?
When did you get the new computer and when was the last time you played that it DIDN’T do this?
is your power options in control panel to high performance and not to balance as it is by default and recommended when windows installed ?
