If the forums offer no assistance, you can submit a request through the ‘Support’ link above/below to the CS Team.
Good luck.
Yyyeeah seems like no one knows about a solution. I tried re-downloading again and some other stuff, game still doesn’t launch… sigh. Thank you anyways, apparently I’ll have to write to CS.

Make sure to check your processes, you may have the client running but just not displaying on your screen.
You can try CTRL+ALT+DEL and open task manager and go to Processes.
Look for a gw2.exe, Terminate the process and try re-opening your client.

Tried that too, nothing’s there. I’m just at a loss of what to do anymore :/
Try using the -windowed option to force windowed mode. If you’ve played GW2 on it before, you can also try deleting your settings by deleting the folder
%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and if it exists, Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat.
If your laptop has multiple GPUs, try disabling all but the dedicated one. Some laptops for example have a dual setup; an integrated one for normal tasks and a dedicated one for 3D. Sometimes the wrong one will get used and cause it to fail.

Just tried windowed mode, still nothing happens, no game. I deleted the local.dat folder, but I can’t for the life of me find the appdata thing. And I used search. Or I just may be dumb for this one :|
I’ll see if I can do something with the GPUs.
Edit: Not even the GPU solution works. What the hell happend while this machine was on repairs Oo

What Healix said, deleting local.dat file should fix your issue.

you can try the following:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
See if that works for you, this process may take a while tho even on relatively faster computers.
If that doesn’t work, you may want to also try updating your video card drivers.
Also while it may not be the issue, you also want to try disabling your anti-virus program and seeing if it works without it.

Repairing the game client didn’t work either. Disabled anti virus as well… and as far as I know, the video card drivers are up to date as well. I think the ideas will run out before this is solved lol

Yeah, I did. I’ll see if that’ll bring any solutions.
Hi, I’m having the same problem; did you find a solution?
(edited by isomore.4203)
I’m having exactly this problem myself, although I’m on a desktop PC. Did you get this fixed?
-Fixed-
Just opening this forum back, because i had this issue yesterday and i found the culprit.
In my case I’m running MSI afterburner along with RivaTuner Statistics Server because i want to keep track of my computer.
-> Now there is an option in there called “Custom Direct3D Support”. This will enable compatibility with modified with Modified Direct3D runtime libraries. I got this issue because of the recent patch.
I hope this helps for people who have the same issue.
Had the same problem – updated afterburner to latest version (a beta version) and after that it worked.
Keep us updated, folks. Would like to know what solution(s) there are. A few people in our GW2 FB group having the same issue and inquiring about it. Thanks!

Agreed – occurred immediately after the last major Windows 10 update for me. Following your advice, namely to configure RivaTuner option called “Custom Direct3D Support” and enabling it worked! Instant fix, no download and install of beta software required.
Thanks!!
have the same problem. had the major windows update and game just poofs away. and before the update it was totally fine. i did everything. updated my drivers, fixing the file. deleting the local data file. re installing the game.. nothing seems to work..
Same problem here also – major windows 10 update – I can login, download patches but as soon as I click play the game appears to launch – it flickers momentarily on bottom of screen then promptly disappears. I’ve updated everything, repaired the file unistalled and reinstalled the game. nothing working.

Try uninstalling RTSS and stuff like MSI Afterburner. Had the same problem after win 10 creators update. Was fixed as soon as I uninstalled all overlays and hardware monitoring stuff and restarted PC.

I’m still trying to fix this exact issue. As far as I know, I don’t have anything like RTSS or MSI Afterburner, I’ve tried everything listed here, I disabled every overlay I’m aware that I have, and I still can’t fix this issue.
As far as I know, I don’t have anything like RTSS or MSI Afterburner, I’ve tried everything listed here, I disabled every overlay I’m aware that I have, and I still can’t fix this issue.
The overlay problem is with Windows 10 Creators Update specifically. The built-in Xbox app / DVR / gamebar can cause it, or if you have an NVidia GPU, the sharing/shadowplay/overlay features in GeForce Experience.
If you’re running Gw2-64.exe, try renaming it to Gw2.exe. This may help with detection software, rather than manually configuring it, if you have an integrated GPU for example.
Try forcing windowed mode using the -windowed option. Open the folder where Gw2.exe is located and simply append the following to the end of the address bar and press enter to launch:
\Gw2.exe -windowed
Try right clicking Gw2.exe, selecting properties and setting the compatibility to Windows 7.
Try resetting your (hardware-related) settings by deleting the %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ folder.
Delete the bin and bin64 folders where Gw2.exe is located, if you’ve ever modified them.
Clean install your GPU drivers.

disabled Xbox DVR overlay, disabled Nvidia overlay, changed Gw2-64 to Gw2, tried windowed mode in the target line, tried the compatibility modes, deleted appdata, never modified bin or bin 64, drivers are up to date. Still won’t work
drivers are up to date
If you haven’t updated your drivers after the Creators Update, you should reinstall them regardless of if they’re up to date.
never modified bin or bin 64
To clarify, that was to catch mods, such as graphic enhancers or the DPS meters. If you’ve ever modified DirectX dlls at the system level, undo that.
Windowed mode should have caught this one, but open notepad and open the GFXSettings file located under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/. The file name includes the name of GW2’s executable, so match it to what you’re using. Search for RESOLUTION and ensure the width and height values match your screen.
To catch most other programs that may be interfering, open msconfig (search the start menu), select the services tab and disable all non-Microsoft services. Select the startup tab, follow it to the task manager, and disable everything. Reboot.
Multiple GPUs? Disable all except for the primary one. Odd screen resolution? Try something more standard.
Open a command prompt (cmd.exe) as an administrator and enter the following command to check system files for errors:
sfc /scannow
Try creating and using a new local user account. Open a command prompt as an administrator and enter the following to create an account:
net user TestUser /add
Holy cow! I have been having the same issues after Win10 creators update. I just tried the -windowed parameter and it is now working! I also went through all the other suggestions noted above and they did not fix it, only the -windowed parameter did . Thanks All!

adjusted resolution in Notepad (although mine is strange at 1768×992 since I’m using a TV as a monitor), disabled every non-Microsoft thing in Config and restarted, only have one GPU, did the system scan in Command, created a new user account. None of it worked
(although mine is strange at 1768×992 since I’m using a TV as a monitor)
TV out, VGA, HDMI or something else (how is the TV connected to the computer)? TV out could be a problem. Can you experiment with other resolutions and refresh rates (display / advanced adapter properties)? Do you have a standard monitor you can try instead?
Security software? Anti-virus / HIPS / sandboxing. Disable it.
Right click Gw2.exe/Gw2-64.exe. If it says the file is blocked, unblock it. Under compatibility, try disabling scaling and run it as an administrator.
After attempting to run GW2, open the Event Viewer (search start) and look under Windows / Application logs. It may not have anything since it doesn’t sound like an actual crash, but look for anything involving GW2 based on the time you tried to run it.
This probably won’t do anything, but try skipping the launcher:
Gw2.exe -email your@email.com -password yourpassword -nopatchui
Try the options:
Gw2.exe -forwardrenderer -dx9single
The problem with Windows 10 Creators Update isn’t with overlays specifically, but rather anything that tries to hook into the display. Are you aware of anything like that you may have installed? Screen capture software for example.
Have you ever played GW2 on this computer? Laptop or desktop? Motherboard model? GPU? Windows 10? Ever used a system tweaker / software that claims to speed up your computer, or tried to do it yourself?
If you want to do it, clean install Windows without updating. Do not do anything else except for installing the main GPU drivers (without any other bundled software). If it doesn’t work like this, it doesn’t like your hardware.
You can try using Process Monitor to see what GW2 was trying to do. This is mainly for the Creators Update problem, since it’ll show what DLLs are being loaded. Filter it by process name.
I have the same problem. Updated GW2 after being away for a few weeks and POOF…no starty start. In the meantime going to update the video driver and do the suggested settings changes in the nVidia driver to see if I can get it going. I do not have any 3rd party overlays that I know of as I’ve never had any performance issues on this machine that I needed to debug.
This is NOT an overlay problem, Arenanet should fix their code so this doesn’t happen. Same goes for how touchy it is about overclocking and SLi hardware. :/
In my case a driver update alone fixed the problem. Since I have no 3rd party overlays and the nVidia sharing overlay is not supported on the old video card in this machine, so disabled by default, a driver update fixed the problem.
Try using the -windowed option to force windowed mode. If you’ve played GW2 on it before, you can also try deleting your settings by deleting the folder
