Hello. This might be a lengthy post, but please try to bare with me.
I have removed the GMs name out of respect.
TL;DR Anyone can get you banned by buying any amount of RMT gold to your account and you will get banned for it whether you accept the gold or not, even if you’re offline.
I’ll start the thread off with saying I haven’t been an active player for the past 2 years, just recently (about a month or so ago) I’ve been logging on just about every day to receive the daily reward then log off.
Now onto the issue.
About 1 month ago I got a mail from ANet saying

During a recent audit, we found that your account received in-game items and gold from a third party which sells these things for cash or other items with real world value. Purchasing from these “Real Money Traders” violates our Rules of Conduct, so we have confiscated any available gold and/or items acquired from them.
These traders often use fraud, hacking, and identity theft to acquire the gold and items they sell. If you made a purchase with real funds, we suggest contacting the seller or your financial institution for a refund. Continued purchasing from such sellers could result in further action against your account, including the removal of gold and items purchased from unauthorized sellers, temporary suspension, or a permanent ban from the game.

I got very surprised as I don’t play the game at all and have never bought gold or gotten send any significant amount of gold that could seem suspicious.
I replied to the mail with "Yes, I understand but I haven’t bought any gold from anyone.
If you check my played time recently I literally log in and open the daily box and then log off, when on earth would I have time to buy gold?

This is the point I start getting paranoid and frustrated, I’m not playing the game for the love of god what is going on?
I got suspended for 24 hours for something that is completely out of my control. If a RMTer sends you gold, you’ll get suspended for it whether you accept the money or not

I replied to their mail with “Hey! Can this stop? Like seriously. I have never purchased gold from anyone, and this is the second mail I get from you guys.Please check my ACTIVE history, I log in for like 10 seconds everyday for the daily reward and then log off, I AM NOT BUYING GOLD I AM BARELY PLAYING THE GAME. After a second review of this issue, I confirmed that the gold removed from your account came from a RMT Account. This accounts usually use Hacking, Botting and Account Theft to get this gold. This is a clear violation of our User’s Agreement and for that reason we can’t reinstate the Gold.
Please be very careful in the future with these transactions, as future violations of this type may end on a disciplinary process or a permanent suspension of your account.

Basically I am not getting any help what so ever from ANet and I’m hoping I can shine some light on this situation here on the forums which will hopefully bring some attention to the matter as it can be a rather serious one.
This is basically trollers heaven, anyone can purchase RMT to anyone for any amount and that person will get banned, whether you accept the gold or not.. If you’re offline while this is all happening, well you’re kitten out of luck.

TL;DR Anyone can get you banned by buying any amount of RMT gold to your account and you will get banned for it whether you accept the gold or not, even if you’re offline.

Your account may have been compromised while you were away. You might consider changing all passwords, and asking the CS Team if there are any IP addresses associated with gameplay on your account that are foreign to you.

It could be possible that RMT is sending the gold to you by mistake some how they got the account name wrong could be the same name but the number is one off. Have you excepted the gold sent to you. Leave the gold in the email and contact support again and tell them that this may be the issue I think I read somewhere in the forum that after 3 suspensions it’s a permanent ban and the account is deleted I’m almost certent that this RMT discipline system is automated to a point this need to be looked into ASAP

Yeah it could be. The issue is I’m TRYING to tell them that I’m getting harassed by them but they refuse to help me.. instead they keep going on and on about that they’re 100% sure the ban is justified.. basically copypasta responses.

Until you tell them you think your account has been compromised, they are going to approach the issue as if all the activity is yours. The fact that you say you GOT 300g mailed to your account and yet you do not see any weird activity on your account is indeed VERY weird….

Keep in mind that if someone has hacked your email and account, they could log in, clear the emails and authroized connection list on this site in order to hide all activity from you. Anet would certainly be able to see if someone is logging in from another location, but if you have not directly stated to them (via a ticket YOU open) that you think your account is compromised, they will likely not even look for that.

There is also the possibility someone else is locally logging into your account (from you PC or same network, etc.) and Anet would NEVER be able to tell it was not you. If this turns out to be the case, this is going to be a difficult and possibly painful situation to try and clear up (if it actually can be).

If you want to check the login locations yourself, at the top of the page where it says MY ACCOUNT, click on it, then select SECURITY, this should show you the list of IP addresses that have logged into your account,

The very fact that they are saying that your account continues in this activity makes it almost sound like someone is using your account to bounce the gold threw, like a middle man.

The replies from Anet themselves do seem rather unhelpful, there is a Dev that checks these sort of posts maybe they can shed light on the problem for you, as it does look like its a complete failure from the support side, ( which is normally very good )

Support also has no proof the OP didn’t buy the gold, by your same statement. If the OP is really truly that inactive, then they wouldn’t really have anyone who wants to harm their account. So it’s either someone who did order put in the wrong account, or the gold seller is making a mistake. But from Anet’s side, since they can’t see who ordered the gold (since it’s not their service, and they have a very strict policy on gold selling, then the OP is really screwed over, but Anet also cannot say “well, it shouldn’t have been for you”.

How is Anet supposed to remove the gold? And punish those who buy except by seeing who received gold from a known gold seller account and take the gold.

Checking to see if people didn’t touch the in-game emails that carry the gold would be a start.

If I understand all of this correctly, the OP still has a mail carrying 300g untouched in his inbox, and ANet took away 300g from his wallet. People who buy gold usually use it.

Thank you for your replies, you’re bringing more discussion to the table which is good.
However as the other person said, if someone buys gold they’re usually after wanting to use it, no? I am not buying gold and that is why I haven’t touched the gold in my mail. However I am really concerned about the matter because it seems like ANet can’t see whether you accept something in a mail or not, they see it as it’s on your account as long as it’s in your mailbox as well. That is a huge issue that could be very easy exploitable as Mr. Chemsorly stated earlier.

I thought Anet didn’t send out notices of fraudulent activity or suspension notices via email. I mean, there have been a number of posts over on the “Bug” section from people saying gold disappeared from their accounts, and most of the time, they’ll be people who DID do RMT purchases; none of them ever mentioned any emails from support about the gold being removed (they just noticed the gold was gone in-game).

Also, your screenshot of your UI with the in-game mails show four Black Lion Trading Post delivery mails. Those mails get deleted after you remove the attached items. It’s kind of strange how they’re there, despite you claiming you haven’t used the gem store in 3-5 months (unless you bought items six+ months ago and never took them out of the mails, for some reason). All of those mails, plus the gold mails, really make it look like your account WAS compromised. Or something else.

You really need to discuss possible compromise with the CS Team. It won’t happen automatically, though possible Michael or Chris or someone sees this thread and responds.

Actually hes probably right not to touch the mail, given the current replies from Anet it seriously looks like the support person in question isn’t really looking into his account properly and is just seeing the gold, if he returned it, they would probably accuse him of sending the gold aswell as receiving it,

I still think you need to check the logins on your account and change the password to your email etc, as is honestly looks like your account is being used as a 3rd party / middle man, espically given that its happening on a daily basis now.

This confirms that my account hasnt been hacked and that anyone can get anyone banned by just buying anyone gold from an RMT site. I replied to the e-mail with “Hey, thank you for getting back to me. I have a question tho, if I get the gold sent to me while I’m offline and get banned while I’m offline, how do I report it then? Just please help me out here and try to find some common sense. I’ve had my account since launch and I’m a veteran GW1 player. Maybe try asking for a Senior or Lead GM. This sounds unfair even though Anet has no way to see wether you or someone else ordered the RMT Gold for you. They should at least wait until a person took the gold out of the mail until they take action.

As far as the emails from the CS Team show, your account has not been suspended or any action taken on it. Just warnings. The latest email indicates that you should block the sender (not sure why you didn’t before, but…), and report them.

You can post your ticket number in the Sticky above, ‘Tickets for Review’, and the CS Team Lead will look into the matter.

I guess I missed it mixed in with the ‘inactive’ and played ‘tens of thousands of hours’ on the account.

Still, there are explicit instructions about what to do to keep from receiving any more RMT-associated mails, and how to report them if he should do so.

The problem remains is that I’m not an active player, right. So when they send me the gold I’m offline and I can’t report/delete do whatever with the mail since I’m not online. Then I get banned while I’m offline and it’s already too late.

The other points you have doesn’t make much sense, or maybe I’m too stupid to understand them. I’ve clarified multiple times that my account has not been hacked and ANet kind of confirmed it by saying they haven’t seen any suspicious log in attempts.

And what is so weird about the emails, that is how they handle ban-situations, no?

Well, I think you were never originally talking to an Anet person. The link in your top post is a link to the original Guild Wars game, not even to GW2. Was all this done through in game mail?

As someone else pointed out, Anet does not give warnings about suspensions or banning. If you ever get an in game mail about it, Block the sender and delete it.

Now in the past it’s always been that Anet would never contact you about your account so it was always a dead give away to phishing sites. If Anet is going to start sending emials first people are going to have to be very careful on what links they follow.

Presumable it’s because gold is being sent from not just one gold selling account but several gold selling accounts over a period of time, the “extensive history” referred to. One account sending gold might be a mistake but not more than one. They aren’t going to be sending hundreds of gold off to harass someone. They are a business.

Since no statement was used to identify the OP but only an anonymous display name, then nothing was said or could be said to defame his name.

The OP came forward stating that Anet wasn’t helping him and he was getting banned. Anet was just clearing there name. It’s not like Anet made a post going “All of these accounts are buying gold” and proceed to list them. That would be where people could sue. Welcome to online forums, where if you post something, people will post back and you give up the right to sue.

And as to the proof, Anet can see all the mail he’s received in the past, and most likely has been A LOT of gold from multiple known gold sellers accounts. That would most certainly be an “extensive history”.
