Is anyone at Anet working on optimization?
I shall take the three day silence since I posted this question to be ‘No we are not’. Thank you.
There isn’t a lot they can do at this point, the problem is their graphics engine, to fix it they would need to rewrite the game… not gonna happen, they can probably tweak some minor things here and there but overall performance won’t improve a whole lot anytime soon. Then engine lacks of propper cullling method so it renders a lot stuff u are not actually seeing, for example it remders water below the game maps causing reflections to have a tremendous impact in game performance, same with shadows, the engine calculate shadows form stuff u cannot see and that is a huge FPS hog aswell.

From what I understand, they are working on finding a way to optimize the client, the problem is, they pretty much gotta go back to the start and rebuild to get around the major issues.
anet expected umbra to offload object culling off the cpu onto the gpu, but, umbra has/had issues with all modern cards video drivers causing major slowdowns on some systems, umbra blame amd/nvidia/intel, so its running on cpu, as well as other heavy per core processes…..I tend to question umbra’s blaming amd/intel/nvidia because…..if it effects every hardware maker that makes modern gfx then…..its probably not their problem…..umbra should “fix their kitten”.
anet from what i gather are either working on their own culling system or are trying to fix umbra, the lack of proper culling really effects this games perf….
for one, reflections are always rendered, even when the waters not visible/underground……the map of this games horribly layered as well if you find a place you can fall threw visible but not physical objects(LA has some epic spots for seeing this) those ship parts you see sticking out of mountains that you cant get to….are whole ships, so all that extra stuff is rendered because umbra dosnt work properly to keep it from being rendered.
im quite sure they have people working on it, but, some of the problems they have are also directly related to using dx9 rather then 11, but, you know, they wouldnt have sold as many copies if they had not supported XP(despite the fact most xp users cant really run the game decently now)
