Lag spikes/packet loss
Is there anything I can actually do about this?
90% of the times I’ve had connectivity problems with this game, as has been the case for the past week or so, it’s been package loss at Telia.
In short, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Having the same problem on Kaineng for the last three days. Ping jumps to 2k or 3k every 30 seconds or so. Packet loss at 14%. I had my ISP do a ping test on their end while it was happening, they showed no problems.

I’ve been experiencing the same problem here on my end as well. I mostly play WvW and prior to this match-up, engagements and fights were fine; this week is completely different. Lag starts occuring around 5 PM PST and continues on throughout the night making it impossible to play (internet connection is running fine). When I had a chance to play in the early morning and noon hours, GW2 was runs normal.
Same here, whenever I check on the problem, this is the typical picture, around 20% PL at that dreaded interface between Telia and NCSoft.
This problem seems to return with the annoying regularity of a disliked season. I’d seriously appreciate it if some one could finally trace and fix it.
Edit: problem seems to start and stop quite abruptly, as shown in the 2nd image’s graph.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.

I had this a few hours after wintersday patch went live and the ping for me has gone from normal (37-40ms) to 300+ highest was 3k ping , but my speedtest and connection is fine for all other games and devices except gw2 and this is on 2 PCs.
I submitted a ticket jsut before to see if they are aware,is seems to be ncsofts end with the packet loss of anywhere between 50-90% loss according to pingplotter

The packet loss is @ Telia, this has nothing to with the Anet servers.
having the same problem, started with the winters day patch.
seriously this makes the game unplayable with peolpe teleporting, when will this issue be fixed? and it’s not the first time it has happned to

The packet loss is @ Telia, this has nothing to with the Anet servers.
If you look at the image i posted for me the only packet loss is the last IP at the bottom with the red mark but Telia could be a cause to this

I have had this problem since the wintersday patch, game is unplayable atm :/ I don’t have Telia ^^
I’m playing a lot of pvp but since the start of wintersday/5thpvpseason I randomly get lag spikes too. After a few games I get into a match and have a 500+ ping. You can’t win games like that. I get dishonor and lose points for leaving the match when I got kicked out. I stoped playing for today because I almost dropped out of platinum elo. i checked packet loss and its at 0%. Internet connection seems fine. Anyone got an idea?

solution:
go to your router settings. Under the security tab/firewall/advanced settings, there should be a feature call “NAT”. Change it from “secure/Enabled” to “open/disabled”.
That should fix it, as long as your link is not congested. Report back if it helps.
I am also having those issues for days, especially tonight. I want to do PvP, but i cant because those constant lagspikes make it unplayable. Everything is working fine on my end, having absolutely low and constant pings in other games. Why is it such an issue for ANet though?

I’m having the same exact issues. My connection is stable and strong, my ports are open, it’s not my end. My ping during peak hours shoots up over 2k, I lose connection. Packet loss is high. Affects other computers in the house as well. Yet many other players say their connection is fine and that it is on my end. Ive put in two support tickets so far and aside from the packet loss revelation no other fix was made apparent. I don’t know what Telia is, I use Centurylink. But I suspect it’s the same issue. I wish they would put someone on the thread to address it. This all started for me last week suddenly and hasn’t improved since. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one dealing with this. At least I know I’m not crazy.

It’s worth noting that the companies involved in the problem as shown in the trace just above are Amazon and Telia, neither of which are ANet, and only one of which ANet has any direct business relationship with.
Other than asking those two companies what is going on, ANet very likely have zero influence over the issue. (Though, with luck, Amazon are already yelling at Tellia to get it together, since it’s gonna hit any Amazon customer following that path…)

this is true but since it seems to be only affecting guild wars 2 for me not sure about the rest since every other online game/software works fine guild wars 2 would kinda want to ask so they know them selves but for me i was getting packet loss on the above aswell as some of the guild wars 2 servers

Just started getting this =/
Also lagged out and crashed from 2 PvP matches… up to 2,000 ping
GW2 only. Tested other sites/games, all work fine.
Forums and wiki are slow to load too
Been having this issue since the Wintersday patch.
It’s a nightmare to do any fractal dungeon with this in T4.
Having some serious lag issues here as well. Since the Wintersday Update game is almost unplayable – lag spikes from 50 ping to 500 or even over 1000 all the time. Really hoping for a fix, because there were zero problems like that before the patch.
I have exactly the same issue – lag spikes. Going from normal ping to 500 ms every other second. Unplayable. I know its not ArenaNet to put a blame on, but maybe they have more power to resolve this issue.

Same here, started 2 days ago. From 60(normal ping) random spikes to 200+ every few seconds.
getting temporary normal pacing until sudden major lag, to the point my modem/router resets. possibly related to general lag as level3 (main pathing via tracert) is under abnormal stress. isp has no tickets for the area.

My husband and myself are also having the same issue. Friends who play too tell the same stories about sudden Ping-spikes.
Especially the last couple of days have been almost unplayable.
There are moments where there doesnt seem to be a problem, a bit of lag on our end tops, but the sudden spikes in ping (way above 1000) are killing our gaming fun big time.
Since 2 days unfortunately my wife and I are experiencing the same thing.
Huge lag spikes which sometimes result in disconnects.
Kinda makes the game unplayable (no issues whatsoever in other games).

There is most likely nothing for them to address. You need to figure out where the problem is by running pingplotter. You will see as many others do that the problem is with Telia or Level 3. Anet doesn’t have anything to do with them.

Sorry, I didn’t provide any details. I’ve ran pingplotter and it shows the problem at ncsoft server (12-14 hops). Till hop 12 I have about 60-100 ms, after that it reaches as high as 900.

Sadly I didn’t take a screenshot. I took one just now, but I think the problem right now is one hop before anet servers.
Well you have something going on at hop#5, but you definitely have problems starting at hop#8. The packet loss is more of a problem than the ping. I would take that ping graph to your ISP and see what they can do. There is nothing on the Anet side that can be done.

hope 5 is always like that, I am guessing that it cannot be pinged (protected by ISP or something). I know that Anet can’t do anything for the specific printscreen. Look at one right now. This is the most common issue, lagspikes (so much rage in PVP :P) hope 11 and after that.

If hop 5 is always like that, then thats one of the problems, you have 75% packet loss. Your ping increase starts at hop 8, it actually gets better after hop 11. I’m not a network expert by any means but I still don’t think there is anything wrong after hop 11. Try submitting to Anet support, they might have some advice but not much other than that.
You have to understand that if this is a game server (Anet) issue it would affect every single player. Even if a hundred people post they are having an issue there are still thousands that are not seeing the issue.
