I find it shocking there’s been no official response on some kind of patch this is almost 2013 this sort of performance is inexcusable as everyone with fps problems have pretty good pc’s and can run all other current games np whatsoever. No expansions for me not when it runs this bad, fix the fps and I’ll buy your expansions

Well at least the events (or ‘mini DLC’s’) are free of charge and fun. Most developers don’t address any problem unless they feel like patching it, charge you for so called DLC’s (which are basically some skins) and still release poorly optimized product.

A performance optimization update will make this game near perfect

Hi.

I know nothing about computer lingo, and had trouble finding this in the first place. Just a heads up. All I know is that my computer is a laptop and not a very good one at that. I’ve had it for around 3 years.
I recently bought GW2, and have always gotten a low FPS (around 10-15). I expected that, though, as my laptop is casual and not a gaming computer. Recently, however, I’ve been hitting <10 FPS. I switched from Devona’s Rest to HoR. Now, wherever I go (ranging from nearly empty space to Lion’s Arch), I am getting ~5 FPS. Does the world switch play any part in my low FPS?
Also, I do not know if I am able to update my drivers, or if I should just save up some money and buy a desktop in about a year or so. I would really love to continue playing this game, but am coming to a realisation that I may have to buck up and deal with not playing the game for a while.
So, the question is: is there anything short-term—whilst I wait to buy a desktop—that I can do to solve this problem?

P.S. If there is no foreseeable fix to this dilemma, any tips on buying a relatively cheap yet gaming-friendly desktop PC would be greatly appreciated.
P.P.S. I’ve attached my DxDiag, though only because it looks like it could help my cause. I’ve no idea what it’s for, admittedly. But I leave that up to the techies to figure that out for me.

Thanks in advance,
Lord Palindrome

Hi there.

ok first of ur correct about ur laptop, its not a gaming machine, and unfortunatly no aomunt of tweeking is going togive u many more than maybe 1 or 2 fps becouse ur CPu is only 2 core 2 thread and onl y 2 ghz. GW2 needs much more than that.

Money wise for deskptop u looking at $600-$800 and the same in £’s if ur in the UK.
This is NOT for super monster gaming rig. its simply a rig that is put together with GW2 in mind.
So ur looking at a combination of medium & high graphics settings. The bit that chews up about 1/4 to1/3 of the cost is the CPU which HAS to spent on since GW2 takes most its perofrmance fomr the CPU.

If u want more specifics on exactly which parts u need i can put a list together with links and link it to u. Send me a PM with what parts u have available to put into a desktop already .. Like HardDrives and CD/DVD drives (they have to be Sata not IDE)

I don’t even own windows 7 plus that isn’t the problem. It is the processor I believe or compatibility on ANet side.

Acutally, it’s computers in general, and Windows in particular. The total RAM that a standard Windows system will recognize is ~3 gb due to the way that the memory is addressed. There’s nothing much that can be done (it’s a design limitation), but switching to a 64bit install of Windows might help.

If that doesn’t fix it, the only recourse, I’m afraid, is to see if there’s a BIOS update available, or….look for a newer computer.

I see alot of people posting systems with dual core AMDs…. If you’re expecting to run a game that surpasses your cpu by 4 years, forget it.. it’s not going to happen, it doesn’t matter what video card your using IT IS JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, the game uses about 3 threads, so you can’t even maximize performance on such cpu. For those with high end systems, 3 threads doesn’t do the job. So unless you’re OC’ing the living kitten out of your cpu, mainly looking at AMD’s, not gonna happen.

FX8350 stock
32gb RAM 1866mhz
ATI 6970 x2
128gb SSD OCZ vertex 3

I get around 60-80fps in common areas , ~40 fps in Lion’s arch with everythign maxed out.

WvW i tend to have settings to low/low or lowest low, i get around 25-30fps in fights, its’ not amazing, but its good for the encounter.

this is defnitely not a high end pc, but a decent computer.

The point is, the game is not gonna do much more if it does use multi threading well, specially with today’s cpus. There’s little consumers can do.

However, those of you posting old computers with 2 cores or 3 cores… I’m telling you right now, dump that extra 300 bucks and get yourself a decent mobo/cpu. I know the AMD Phenom II 955+ perform better than the fx8350 for this game, so there’s your budget cpu.

For those cfoncerned about the cpu not being at 100% and getting poor performance, check usage by cores and not your typical task manager output, it’s not the same thing at all.

Overall I wish they did improve the game like they should performance wise but coding software for multi threading isn’t exactly easy either.

my 2 cents

My system is much like yours (see specs below) and I use to get about the same frame rates as you are reporting. However when SAB was re-introduced they also included some optimizations (the only one I could find specificly mentioned was sound sub-system ie: F-Mod) that appear to have a very telling effect for some people. My frames rates have dropped to the point that the game is almost unplayable in any size of zerg group (FPS less than 10 using performance (the lowest possible) settings).
Any ideas? I have even gone so far as to format my hard drive and reinstall windows installing only the latest drivers for the chip set, processor and video card. I have even updated my Sound Blaster drivers…
I have no clue what to do now other than wipe everything clean and install baseline (product introduction) drivers and work my way up from there.

Mmm not sure what you’re having there, i can run 2 other games in the background without really hurting my gameplay ( running 2 screens). Try disabling crossfire. At the moment i’m only using one of the cards since multi screen doesn’t benefit from crossfire and windowed mode… Mm, i haven’t really noticed any performance drops since the SAB patch either. If a clean install doesn’t work for you, i’d start checking on issues with your video card/cpu throttling due to temperature. I have had incidents where my temps have gone wild sometimes due to incorrect voltage settings on the mobo cus i had it OC’ed before, don’t really need it now so idc.

My mobo is an ASrock 990FX fatality

Try switching from full screen to windowed mode. Also try setting your gw2 application profiles in the ATI CCC to performance, maybe force AA instead of using the ingame FXAA…

Bump

35-45 fps this morning in ordinary zones. In evening I get 16fps max. Formatted machine. Re installed gpu drivers. No change.

Bumping just to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

Yes, thank you. That thread describes the issues I am having.
