1. The level of communication. Essentially, I’d like the stickies in this forum to be updated to be current. This includes updates for frequent issues to address how we pretty much get the same handful of threads in this forum over and over and over again. And some sort of patch notes for us. I’m completely 100% okay if they’re kind of gibberish. Having a general idea of what is going on is good and can potentially help us talk to you if we have an inkling of what got changed. At the moment we have no idea what is going on so we do blind guessing at best (raging rants at worse). Oh and maybe remove/condense some of the stickies since there are a lot of them right now.

2. On a somewhat related note, clean up this sub forum. Related crashes should be lumped together in the same thread/bug report. It will hopefully help people find answers more quickly (due to the your thread was merged/moved feature the forums has).

Okay, these are things I can help with. I’ll admit, I’m a PC gal and worked in IT for 14 years before moving to the games industry. I know next to nothing about Mac tech, troubles, or issues. So, I could use your help.

Can you advise which stickies are out of date/need updates? Could you folks report threads which need merging for the future? For right now, I can take a quick glance at the threads, but if you folks can offer up any sort of assistance on pointing me in the right direction, I’ll take care of it.

I’ve got a list of some bugs which were fixed. It will just be the raw data, but you can see that. I’ve enjoyed working with the Mac team to work on the communication. I appreciate your patience with me as I get up to speed.

Can you advise which stickies are out of date/need updates?

This one is over a year out of date. A known issue update would be appreciated:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Known-Issues-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-Beta-Client/

The last time this one about bug fixes was updated was over a year ago:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Update-Notes-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-Beta-Client/

This is 8 months old and there are some new trouble shooting tips since then:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Basic-Mac-Beta-Client-Troubleshooting/

See some tips from Felicja.6891:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/Felicja-6891/showposts

It would be nice if some of Felicja’s tips were validated by the Mac team and included in the trouble shooting sticky. I know they have worked for a lot of people.

Thank you for your time here CC.

First of all, thank you very much for following up so soon!

Posting those patch notes or bug fixes certainly is a great idea and it doesn’t matter if not everybody understands them. if needed users who do understand it can explain certain points.

The sticky-threads situation, the main issue is that some of the threads were put there as a reaction to some patch and its problems. They are now out of date or obsolete so I suggest to merge the following threads.
Also, if you add things to already existing posts, make sure to mark the date of editing additional to the foot note

Mouse Wheel and Camera Zoom , Known Issues: Guild Wars 2 Mac Beta Client , Mac Beta Client Installer (one in a kind thread though) , Performance Issues: MacBook Pro with Retina Display

They are all about known issues and could be merged as Known Issues for Mac.
People who can’t install because of the installer blending (does it still exist?) will look there first as well as people having mouse issues or who have a macbook pro with a retina display. It would also include questions about bootcamp.

Keep your mac os x updated doesn’t need a sticky in my opinion but should be mentioned in Known Issues for Mac
technical problems – post your system specs and submitting a support ticket should simply be mentioned at the start of Known Issues for Mac and Submitting a Support Ticket for the Mac Beta Client as well as in Basic Mac Beta Client Troubleshooting

About This Sub-Forum could be removed?

Update Notes: Guild Wars 2 Mac Beta Client is waiting for that list and has been for very long sadface.

About the non-stickies

The forum itself doesn’t need too much cleaning up as there simply aren’t enough posts. If you are interested in creating “official” threads or themed threads like Black Lion Trading Post Issues where more common issues are discussed, simply have somebody “red-flag” or create a thread with this title. I see a lot of threads about these issues and if somebody wants to merge already existing ones, feel free to do so.

1. Black Lion Trading Post Issues (including gem purchase)
2. Crashes
3. Not installing
4. Not starting
5. Framerate issues
6. Graphical problems (usually due to overheating)
6. Patch related

But I feel like this sort of moderation of the forums isn’t needed due to lack of volume. As long as the Stickies are being updated it should be fine and the forum will clean itself by pushing older duplicate threads off the front page.

From your post I take that you cannot discuss a native client, whatever the reasons may be. Would you be allowed to bring up this issue with the people responsible for deciding on public statements and ask them if an official position of Anet can be worded and made public? And in the case that Anet cannot make an official statement, say so?

Well first off thank you for the update notes. Small question, are those updates that have been implemented or are planned to be? I ask because the function key override doesn’t seem to be working if that was implemented (I still have to use third party software to swap function keys per app). I also still get the crazy flickering on certain plants (although this is happening less often than around launch).

Okay, now I’m going to go through the current stickies.

Basic Mac Beta Client Troubleshooting
Is there a way to fix CLI command or make the instructions as far as changing the em dash to two hyphens more readable? We have to help people with the dashes in the CLI a lot. For instance, can you do: (I’m using the pre tag)

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider --use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

Also the special apple/command symbol next to the word “command” was replaced with a (?) on step 2 of the PRAM reset instructions.

About This Sub-Forum
This page is pretty much incorrect from my observations (that and the bbcode is broken). Any post mention macs at all is automatically moved to the mac beta client forum even if the involvement of a Mac isn’t the problem. Also, maybe if you could put an explanation as far as what this beta is might be good (i.e., explain how long we can expect it to be in beta, what your standards are, how we can help you guys in general, etc…).

Known Issues: Guild Wars 2 Mac Beta Client
Is almost completely out of date. Maybe just merge this with the update thread. Here is an example of how you could format it. This way you can inform us of what is going on and warn us if you think something might glitch out (and you could also merge like 3 of your current stickies into one). I’m not expecting the level of notes in my example, just using it to illustrate how you can present the information to us (fancy icons not necessary).

Submitting a Support Ticket for the Mac Beta Client and Technical Problems? Post Your System Specs should be merged as you have to post your specs to submit a ticket anyway. Also, I believe your support guys want us to use a third party app these days to give them the system specs and they will not take images (or maybe it was another game…dunno something to check at the very least).

Keep Your Mac OS X Updated
Kind of a no duh statement. Almost every Mac gamer knows that the only way to get new drivers is through OS updates. It takes up sticky space and really is redundant. If the info is needed it could be put into the troubleshooting thread instead.

Mouse Wheel and Camera Zoom
Should probably also mention the crazy mouse bug that is fixed by command tabbing out and back into the game.

Performance Issues: MacBook Pro with Retina Display
I don’t have a MacBook Pro so no comment.

Mac Beta Client Installer
This thread is kind of funny. Can someone fix the background image to put the typical huge arrow pointing at the icon that we’re used to? (Actually we’re mostly used to drag and drop installs but not sure if that is something you can fix.)

If it is helpful, the correct symbol (⌘) is U+2318 in unicode and ⌘ in HTML. The unicode one seems to be converted into a ? during posting (though it works ok in the preview) so the HTML one should probably be used instead.

Thanks for putting in the html code, didn’t know the forum supported that. Neat. Anyway, as far as cleaning up the rest of the threads, we have 4 threads reporting trading post bugs (all likely the same bug) up in this forum currently. There should be a better way to organize.

It is a bit humorous that I intentionally posted very achievable goals for their list some stuff for us to fix thread and they managed to still do nothing. Admittedly, I was surprised I even got a response (i.e., the creation of this thread). But yeah, nothing. They haven’t even fixed the thread with the bad CLI command.

Sigh. Well, Anet, I appreciate how the feature patch wasn’t insanely bug filled for us Mac users. That is an accomplishment (sadly) so things aren’t continuing to deteriorate, at least. But I have to say, I will not trust a thing you say from here on out. Sorry.

The fact it’s been a month and they can’t even clean up some forum posts or at least update the known issues list is just absolutely disappointing. Seems like all communication has pretty much ceased on this part of the forums too. I usually defend Anet and their practices but this is just pathetic. And people wonder why we feel like they don’t care about Mac users? :P

Thankfully we have the above posters who are diligent enough to come up with useful posts for those of us who are willing to look a bit more for it. Thanks guys, it’s appreciated.

I thought this thread was a metaphor for the Mac client.

If they are serious about the mac client, it seems like they should hire a dedicated mac expert to the dev team. Till then, it’s just going to be the same misadventure and firefighting, even if the rep does eventually clean up the support threads with the help of the customers.

It was nice they added a mac wrapper to the offering, but it doesn’t feel like there was much effort beyond the initial wrapper creation so far. It remind me of the time I took up knitting and made half a scarf- looks great so far, but lots of problems and perpetually unfinished. I hope ANet resumes knitting at some point- this game could be a lovely scarf for a mac if they finish it.

Performance Issues: MacBook Pro with Retina Display
I don’t have a MacBook Pro so no comment.

It was a software issue and firmware issue with 650M drivers. If you update your Mac you don’t have the issue anymore. Since every intelligent user should always update, this should be considered fixed.

On a side note, I haven’t been playing much but during the time I did, the black lion trading post has been working without any down time (for me). So good job on that one too.

You created your own thread for that, do not post it inside other posts where it is not relevant. The dev’s aren’t more likely to see it in there than they are in the main forum – and given their, once again, lack of presence it’s pointless anyway.

To be fair foxx, their presence isn’t really required at the moment as there aren’t any new issues with the mac wrapper and they don’t seem to be allowed to talk about a real Mac client.

And a late hello to…“that person”…. i guess……“mac specialist in the background”…whatever title you may get

Their presence kind of is required because new issues HAVE cropped up – e.g. with the gem store – which is pretty massive – and older issues still exist.

I’d say with the amount of bugs people are posting that their presence would be more than welcome. Instead we got a post saying there is a new Mac person a month ago and once again silence. We have heard this before and really it is tiresome to continue to be let down.

I think I misinterpreted the situation as everything is working fine for me – havent “stress tested” anything though – and the threads I read and browsed through seemed like the same old problems. But I checked the first to second page again and there have been new issues, they just looked like the “hick ups” after patches.

I don’t have the same expertise on mac than you, should have read more closely and shouldn’t have suggested you being unfair with Anet, sorry about this!

That is good to hear. Still pretty insane that it took you over a year and a half of this cider client being released to finally hire at least ONE Mac employee but still, it is a nice gesture. I sincerely hope some good comes out it. I’m sure this community would appreciate any small amount of support ANet might be willing to give us.

I just want to say that I am so elated to hear that someone has been hired who knows the mac end of things. I am a relatively new mac convert and so gaming on the mac has been a frustrating experience. I don’t miss Windows OS and have no desire to deal with it, natively or in some kind of quasi form (Bootcamp, Parallels, etc.). I love computer gaming and put up with Windows for nearly 30 years. People who say gaming is only for PCs should be ashamed. It doesn’t get more ‘geeky’ than UNIX and Mac OS should be supported by all the major releases right alongside Windows. Blizzard gets it and so should everyone else. I played Guild Wars on my PC and now I’m playing Guild Wars 2 on my mac. And I want it to run as great as it does on Windows. As a paying customer, as a player, as a Guild Wars fan-that is my request. So, please make it happen!
