Hello everyone!

My in game warrior character is “Isis Linea”. Today, someone in the lion’s arch misunderstood the name Isis and was thinking that refers to that recently “bad organization” and i want to prevent you and people of Arena Net from this misunderstanding. The name “Isis” is responding to the goddess in Ancient Egypt, goddess of health, marriage and love. I like this name so much and don’t want people getting confused. If that not helps, tell me please to change that name to something else cause i don’t want to get banned with this little misunderstanding even if that means i have to pay 800 gems for changing my character’s name. While a staff member might post and talk to you about your name, they may not. You will get a definite answer from support. If they decide that the name violates TOS then you will get a free name change the next time you log on.

So, you can contact support yourself and see what they say (top of page-support, top of page-submit a request), wait and see if someone reports you and and if support decides against you, or you can buy the gems and change your name.

Unfortunately, as sensitive as people have gotten about names (thanks to the internet spreading obscure information far and wide) I suspect your name might get changed. But better to ask and get told than to be hit one day with a message that you can’t log on because your character’s name violated ToS and you need to change it.

My daughter’s middle name is Isis. The goddess was around long before the acronym, I would hope people realize that!

My middle name is Gay. The old meaning was around years before the present meaning but if I were to use the name Gay as part of a name I suspect I would be forced to change it. And so it goes.

Aaah. How some people, slang and such can turn something nice, cool, innocent into something bad, controversial or dirty. Sometimes is makes me sad, when words I can’t use words I used to like, because people misunderstand them for something else.

I for one still think of the Egyptian Goddess when I see Isis, but maybe that will be another nice name/word broken because people cannot seperate different meanings.

I didn’t know that, i have already contacted support and is in progress. In the future i’ll be more careful about how i name my toons.

This part of TOS is about not offending others. The part about religious figures is really about current religions where someone could be offended by a name. No one cares if names from extinct religions are used as long as they don’t have some sort of current offensive meaning.
