So I got a new Alienware laptop recently, here are the specs (pasted from order info email w/ some irrelevant junk deleted)

Base Alienware 14 Base
Operating System Windows 8.1 (64Bit) English
Memory 8GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M with 2GB GDDR5
Driver Intel 802.11n/ac Wireless and Bluetooth 4.0 driver
Hard Drive 500GB 5400RPM-SSD Hybrid Drive
Wireless
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 + Bluetooth 4.0
Processor 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4710MQ Processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/ Intel® Turbo Boost)
Color Choice Anodized Aluminum
LCD 14.0" (355.6 mm) WLED FHD Anti-Glare Display (1920 × 1080)

So the problems I have noticed are the inability to do some combinations of actions…
I cannot
- Turn (i.e. change the direction I am walking in) while moving forward with W-key, default binding that I kept. I can turn while autorunning though.
-Move my cursor while walking with W or another directional key. Works with autorunning as above

Any ideas why this could be happening? :/ I would like to be able to play the game on my new laptop without such bizarre issues.

Some touchpad drivers have features to prevent accidental input (e.g. brushing the touchpad with your hand) while typing. Are you sure you don’t have one of these enabled? It could be assuming your keypresses are an attempt to type and blocking mouse input.

On the last laptop I ran Windows on, the touchpad driver was written so badly its settings affected regular mouse input, too (yes, even the acceleration/sensitivity settings, seriously…)

I’ll have to check out the driver stuff and see…thanks. It just puzzled me since I’m 99% sure this kind of thing didn’t happen on my old laptop, and I got my gf to confirm that her laptop doesn’t have these odd problems, either.

Oh god…I just noticed now this kind of issue is not only in game ;/ I can’t move cursor on desktop while holding a key either..
EDIT: Oh, and I don’t think adjusting sensitivity changed anything.

EDIT2: Oh wow, scratch that, problem solved!

I found my solution thanks to this page :http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-221821-i-cannot-move-my-mouse-while-typiing

Go to Synaptics Pointing Device Program which you’ll find in your tray, then go the tab named ‘Device Settings,’ then Click the settings box, then expand the + icon called pointing and turn palmcheck all the way down then click ok. It’ll fix it.

However in my case the setting is called TouchCheck.

your touchpad has a key detection setting so that while you are typing your mouse cannot be used. you can disable this, or better yet disable the touchpad when an external mouse is present (open in the touchpad control panel).

Edited my last message since I solved the problem. Funny/odd as it may sound, I generally don’t mind playing using touchpad lol.

Ice Mage, how is the heat from your laptop whilst playing this game? I’d like to know since you’re one of the few that plays on a laptop besides myself.

It seemed a little hot alright when I bumped settings higher and was on Balanced power plan. I haven’t installed a temperature check utility to get accurate values yet (unless there is something preloaded, which I wouldn’t have noticed) but at any rate I think, as people have often suggested, I will invest in a cooling stand for it.
