[UPGRADE]Heart of Thorns
Hi,
Do you know how can i upgrade my Guild Wars 2 account to Heart of Thorns without buying it with Guild Wars 2 core game? I bought it 3 years ago and i don’t need an upgrade with core game.
The core game is free now, when you buy HoT you’re buying HoT.
As a veteran player, you get to pay the same price as a free to play player unless you wanted to pre-purchase, then it was same price and a character slot.
On a good note, HoT is on sale some places and will continue to go on sale more frequently. If you wait long enough, it will be worth the price for the content it offers someone who already bought the game.
Why am i suppose to pay more then player who started to play 1 month ago? I played 3 years ago and now i must pay the same amount of money as 1 month player to have the same content?
Because you got to play 3 years.
And? It doesn’t matter. I bought it. I payed them. So why am i supposed to pay more to have the same content as 1 month player… It’s injustie to veteran player who bought it 3 years ago and want to have all content…
Even if it didn’t include the core game, Anet would still charge the same price for it.

You’re paying the same incremental cost they are. Software becomes cheaper over time, so you got more value by being able to play 3 years earlier.
I bet most games you bought 3 years ago are cheaper now too.

All MMOs are starting to do this, and with good reason. If you play WoW, you don’t have to buy every single expansion ever made to have access to that content. You need the core game and the newest expansions.
MMOs suffer from natural attrition. It means people stop playing them over time. As more and more expansions come out, they become a barrier to entry to new players.
So it’s smart to remove that barrier to get new players in, or the game stagnates.
Now the F2P Guild Wars 2, isn’t the Guild Wars 2 you bought anyway. It’s filled with all kinds of restrictions. Can’t enter a home city till level 10. Can’t go to LA till level 35. Can’t talk in map chat. Can’t whisper someone not on your friend’s list. Can’t buy gems for gold. Can’t sell gems. TP limitations. Only 3 character slots.
People who bought the game experienced cotent new people will never see. They got in on the ground floor before inflation hit too.
I’ve done tons of stuff new players never will, gotten rewards new players will never get. It’s a small price to pay.
If you don’t like this business model you better stop playing MMOs because everyone is going to have to start doing it soon. The bigger MMOs already do it.
Here we go again…..

You’re right it doesn’t matter…to Anet.
Your choice is to buy it at full price, not buy it, or to buy it when it goes on sale. It sucks, but that’s the way it is.

5 years ago I paid for a good computer. Now people can buy a better computer for half the price I paid 5 years ago.
THEY STEAL US. ANARCHY.

Since at least 6 months after the game released new players have been able to buy the game cheaper than you did, for like the last 2 years people were able to buy GW2 for like $10 on very frequent sales.
So did you also have a problem with people able to buy the core game cheaper than you have for the last 3 years? No? Then why is it an issue now?
