I am just too annoyed with this lag and lag spikes which occur usually on peak hours (which is my only playtime). There is no problem in my internet as I face no lag in other MMOs but only in GW2 in peak hours. Why do you not upgrade your server and fix the lag Anet? I know hundreds of people facing this and it’s the most annoying factor in an mmorpg. Please do take steps to remedy this lag issue.

I’ve had this issue, starting a few months ago – around the time Net Neutrality was repealed by the FFC, leading me to suspect ISP throttling (an issue ANET just can’t solve). You may be experiencing lag thanks to this, as I have. However, I did a lot of digging around and found a possible solution that seems to work.

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end. Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80 Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes. If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.

Edit: This won’t fix the type of lag that happens during peak hours. This type of lag is entirely on ArenaNet’s end, and out of the player’s control.

I tried it but without any improvement. I have also contacted my ISP and they said that they are not throttling any traffic whatsoever. Also, I am facing no increase in lag in other MMO I play. And, this lags usually doesn’t occur in non-peak times. So, I think this peak time lag is something of Anet’s issue.

If you can verify that the game actually ONLY lags during peak times….your first place to look is your own ISP. Throttling bandwidth during peak hours is their best way to “save” money and they WILL do it until you complain about it.

Note that often the throttling is NOT the real issue. When throttling is done, it requires some alteration of their normal routing during the throttling time span. Often, the reduction in bandwidth is NOT causing lag, but a possible routing (or equipment) error or increased path (internet hops, etc.) in the new ROUTING can cause problems with specific internet paths (or possibly other internet backbone providers, datacenters, etc.).

Performing TRACERT tests during peak and off hours can usually help identify this (and give you evidence to present to your ISP….tho it’s possible it’s not THEM that is throttling, but whomever THEY are buying service from.

Hello I am having the exact same problem and I am sure it’s not ISP throttling as its very early morning here (3am) here (I’m in NZ) but it is peak time for US I’m guessing. I have tested my connection etc, no problems there. Nor am I having issues with other games. I’m convinced there is a problem with the server. Very frustrating.

I have the same problem, no throttling possible, no problems with internet connection. I am european playing on an american server though. Could it be that only high pings are affected by this new lag-issue that makes the game unplayable? I seem to have it mostly on maps where a lot of people are (wvw on peak times, dragon events, dry top), but usually so bad that none of my abilities will work until I disconnect 5 minutes later. It’s really really bad and only happening since the last update.

Am having the same issue, and this all started during the hack. The mid patch fixed it but since then it is back and now it just unplayable.

The question is how to we get rid of the lag now that we know about the hack and play the game cause right now, I can’t do my dailies, can’t pvp can do jack.

Am only log in to check mail and even that is slow as jack.

I havent seen a DDoS in GW2 in atleast 24 hours because the people responsible went and drew the wrong kind of attention(When you ground/divert flights,it gets the government involved).

And im not seeing any lag spikes/high pings/anything abnormal in game right now.

It’s not GW2’s fault alone.

Meh, it’s the whole week I’ve been getting these lagspikes: I see people teleporting around, chat lags, skills lag, salvaging lags and using any movement skills is just a curse because I get teleported back and forth from the spot where I used it, making it not convenient to use them at all.

Two days ago I got trapped in a 26s lagspike and, after it ended, it looks like I’ve been downed and rallied 3 times during that time. Really, it’s awful at the moment.

Even this morning, doing cof p1 was such a pain with the 2-3s delay on everything.

I hadn’t lagged in this game at all until just last night (starting around 9pm CDT Aug 25). Now the game is unplayable. At best, I’m rubber-banding quite a lot – I mash buttons and see what happens later. At worst, I hit a couple instances of “Connection error 7:11:3:191:101” per minute.

First time in weeks I haven’t done daily achievements, and it’s not due to lack of trying. It’s just physically impossible to play the game now.

Just did teq encounter and it was terrible:
38s to switch attunement
23s to summon conjures
1min and 21s to get back to dps teq after the defend event (because the server kept teleporting me back on the same spot like 30-40 times)

I couldn’t land ONE SINGLE HIT on teq during the 2nd and 3rd phase because skills kept flashing without doing anything for 30s+ . I got credit for the event just because I range-dps’d during the first phase, then everything went to kittens.

Just before someone comes in and says “What pc you have, what settings you running etc”, just know that I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS for months now. The past week has been horrible, now it’s just unplayable. The more crowded the place, the more physically impossible to play.

I even dc’d after teq died because looting the chest took like 43s. When I logged back, I ended up in another map with no chest… pff

Well, he we are again. Same time of the day. Same lag. 1-2 seconds on skill use. Almost impossible to hit anything in melee.

But it’s obviously too much to hope that Anet would admit that there are problems on server side (whoever caused them), Instead we always hear the same old story it’s our ISP or our PC … or we hear nothing at all.

Also this new fall damage bug when going down a slope seems to be caused by lag or even lost packages. Like the client forgets to send that there have been intermediate steps and the server assumes you have jumped all the way down.

At least I am not the only one with this problems. I hoped that the update today would fix it, but I still have the same problems (like metallus and toxic) and the game is unplayable for the most part, even if there is only a moderate number of maybe 20 people around you that are activating skills (wvw, world bosses, dry top).
The game registers me activating skills (icon flashes) but it takes between 3 seconds and 1 minute until the skill is activated, all other skill uses are queued behind that and get activated sequencially and correctly but often with additional lag.
-Never had that problem before. I wonder if I should reinstall the game, but I doubt that will fix the problem. Anyone tried that yet?

I’d love to see an answer on this. Moved to university same time as the lagg and thought it was that.. and who knows if they throttle it— being with so many people, or what the deal is, but no roomates have lagg and my xbox games don’t lagg at all.

The rubberbanding is SOO real and makes this game unplayable. Especially since all I do is pvp.

Hi, my fps is 70+ indicated from the manu option, but the lag is still serious (people are teleporting around me constantly) and I can never finish a dungeon anymore starting recently ’cause I completely freeze at some point.

My internet connection seems ok. My computer and video card are making great noises so I assume gw2 help them to ascend to another plain (I only play gw2, the computer was bought at the time gw2 was released). Can it be my computer hardware deteriorate and cause the lag? Thx

Your framerate and your latency aren’t the same thing. FPS is dependent on computer hardware. Latency is dependent on your connection.

I had lag-problems and did check everything including registry. Then I found out that the driver for my graphics card wasn’t the newest edition (maybe 1 month old or so) and after updating NVIDIA driver I didn’t have any latency problems yesterday and today and only dropped out of the game with an error once. I don’t know if updating really was the reason for me to have the problem solved, but I thought I write you about it.
Maybe something in the patch requires us to update the graphics driver to newest version or it doesn’t work well?

I have been having lag and dc issues since Tuesday. I’m doing map completing and all of a sudden all my skills would flash and soon after that I would get dc-ed. When I log back in, I’m usually dead.

I noticed that it is a lot worse in the morning for me (NA server, East coast). I don’t think it’s my Internet connection because of it was I would expect it to be a bigger problem at night when both my bf and I are both on gw2. I don’t think it’s my computer since it hasn’t been an issue til this week. Is there anything bring done? Is anet aware of a possible issue?

I think what A-net have done, is combine more servers without publishing it and this is the consequence, and unplayable game because of servers running at nearly 100% capacity and peaking into that 100% buffer.

For example, today the AC dungeon (Server IP: 206.127.159.231) was lagging badly and constantly d/c myself and other members in the group. We could communicate without lag (indicating not ISP issue) and all literally typed “lag” at the same times. If A-net maintain any logs of performance on their servers, then this was happening around 14:20 to 14:50 BST.

I’ve also noticed that textures and things take a lot longer to load than before. I’ll zone into an area and still have things loading up. Usually this is an indication of a poor performance PC, but considering my game runs on a gaming PC and is installed on a decent SSD, I have NEVER had these issues until the past month or so. Also, as other people say, other games work perfectly fine with regards to performance, loading and connectivity.

My PC:
Intel i7 3770K 3.5GHz, Crucial Tactical Tracer 16GB RAM DDR3 9-9-9-24, Gigabyte 4GB GTX760, Corsair Force GS 250GB SSD (550/525 read/write), Certified B-Quiet 750W PSU.

My ISP:

The constant crippling lag is now becoming an utter joke . Im not even in an intense area of activity, running around maps harvesting and such, with constant 4/5+ second total freezes of any input i can do, has been going on for well over a week now. When will something be done about it? ive checked EVERY factor under my control at my end and nothing here is faulty or disruptive in ANY way :/

I’ve been having sporadic lag issues since last nite (EDT).

Using Resource Monitor, connections to GW2 servers currently have been bouncing between 300-2000ms., making it now essentially unplayable.

FYI, Pingplotter freeware [http://www.pingplotter.com/] or just running tracert.exe will help you confirm where the delay is occurring (i.e., if its your ISP or not).

It’s so bad. Sometimes the game is nearly unplayable. I just cross my fingers that it doesn’t happen during a TPVP match.

Although for me it seems to lag and DC more often in PVP maps unfortunately.

I was with you in this dungeon and have had it several other times as well in and out of dungeons. The fact that it seems to be ignored on twitter and here really irritates me. If there was someone telling me honestly what’s going on and/or they are trying to deal with it I would have a lot more patience. I feel this way many players will leave possibly even including me if this problem continues.

Ant give us an update please?!? So we know what we can expect!

It should be recent DDoS attack via Recursive servers.
