Will DPS meters get me banned?
What does it get you. Combat chat shows the damage so why need something else?

It gets me an easy to see and read display for assistance in making optimal builds without having to sift through and compile information from combat logs.
Can it get you banned? Yes. Will it? Probably not.
DPS meters work by reading the client’s memory, which is against the rules and ArenaNet can ban your account for any reason they see fit. However, in a general sense, they don’t care what you do as long as you’re not affecting the game or other players.

This is very gray line. I’ve had talks with Anets devs on this topic over the last couple years. The issue remains that Anet cannot see when you read/inject data into your game client. They can ONLY see data that gets sent to their server that is not supposed to be there.
They ARE working on a way to fix this though, so eventually client side memory hacks (Flight, super Jump, Botting…ect) will be fully detectable. But right now, there is no way for them to know.
So unless you are telling other players about it, nothing will happen to you.
But, it is against the EULA to use any 3rd party app that uses exposed memory registers in the game client. If its not exposed via an API its not supposed to be done.
