I have been playing this game for over 2 years on an off and over the past 6 months I have been playing quite a lot. I bought a identify repair kit for my warrior (which I main). Just so I can name him kitten Goat. I’ve use that name in pretty much every game I played and had no issue since i’m not violating any rules. FYI its kitten Goat, NOT kittened Goat. Many people are ignorant and get it mixed up since they look similar. So basically I had that name in gw2 for over 5 months probably (not exactly sure if its 5 month) And during that time I have played quite a lot in that character alone. And Today it wants me to rename my character. I am very displeased by this.
I’m not going to rename my character until I get my name back.

Yea, I think you’ve just found out why you have to rename your character. If it has a word in it that the forum censors, you should be able to figure out why you have to change your character’s name.

Just because I have a name thats a homophone to a word, shouldn’t mean I have to change my name.

Yea, it does, because the “homophone” is not a word. Word puts a squiggly red line under it. Google automatically searches for the word that your name is a “homophone” to.

So I guess we both know what you meant when you named your character what you named it. And you shouldn’t be surprised that someone reported it.

You’re using google… of course google will change my name to a “homophone” cause google’s search algorithms will search up the most popular topic. Since my name is so close to “kittened” google will automatically say did you mean “kittened”

I do feel that that will be a waste of your time and the time of Support given that the spelling of your character’s name is even censored on the forum.

Yep, OP, thanx for including the pic so everyone can see how immature you are. Name is inappropriate and will have to be changed. Don’t waste CS agents’ time by appealing, you knew it when you named the toon.

You must have known it was wrong in the first place. If the correct spelling is not allowed, how is a mis-spelling of the same offensive word going to be allowed?

The R-Word is a very nasty word to call people, so ArenaNet are not going to allow it at all.

Please, don’t bother creating a ticket. As you can see, the forums isn’t allowing the word to show, thus the game certainly isn’t going to allow it. Creating a ticket is just going to waste time of a support agent who could be helping someone who really needs it.

Homophone: A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning, and may differ in spelling.

So what is the different meaning of yours, exactly? Have you a link to the dictionary definition? I doubt it, because as people have pointed out, it’s not a real word but a common misspelling of a word. That’s not a homophone.

Also I’ve taught in America for over 10 years. If you meant to say that we do not teach homophones here, you are mistaken.

Kind of a Venn diagram of vocabulary! Although, to my recollection we don’t usually use “homograph” very often since the other two terms have enough overlap to cover most of it. And OP seems to be arguing that it’s pronounced the same but has an entirely different meaning. A Monty Python sketch springs to mind (It’s spelled “Luxury Yacht”, but it’s pronounced “Smith”.)

Reading it from the screen shot YES it is rude and insulting. I find it very offensive. It needs to be changed.

I just had very same problem.
I had my main character named “Isis Deadgray” which is lvl80, and has over 500h of play on it.
Well, which words of this name can’t be used?
I had to rename it just now, I played earlier today and name was okay, now it’s “Isis Gray”. I could live with it, if I had chance to renane all of my characters, not only this one. Can you explait this?
I want to get old name or have chance to rename them all.

^ It’s most likely the Isis that got you a rename. A review of current world events will probably explain why. Even though it doesn’t appear your intention was to have a name related to such a group I guess Anet placed it on the off limits list.

Not really, I reported a guild called “Arabs go crazy” [ISIS] via a support ticket and that guild still exists (A GM answered thanking me for the report)
Maybe its because Isis is also a egyptian goddess and religious stuff is not allowed?

Well I was making my guess based on the poster’s name “Isis Deadgray”. I highly doubt Deadgray was the cause of the name change. Anyway here is Gaile’s stance on the name Isis. I suggest Deadgray.8015 file an appeal through support based on this.

Funny, that I like name Isis, who is egyptian goddess of health and wisdom, and yes, this is guardian character.
Anyway, Isis Deadgray was incorrect, buy Isis Gray is okay.
