Can you just imagine how many of these posts would not exist and how much time the tech people would have to help others if there was a viable download/patch alternate????

IMO a bad idea, specifically for a game such as this or a MOBA like LoL that receives updates randomly, a lot of times daily.

I get where you are coming from with your inquiry, but it would be too much time and effort into something that would do more harm than good IMO. If this were a game title that maybe got a patch a month, then sure. But, an MMO or game for that matter that gets several updates per week, is a horrible idea.

Looking at your other post I assume you mainly are concerned with the primary download. That wouldn’t be too bad then, but patches as separate downloads would be a horrible idea.

I will upload my GW2 folder for you if you’d like to my file server. Just let me know if you are interested before I do it, since it’s not particularly small, but should only take me an hour to upload the 18GB.

Seriously, you are complaining that to Anet that it takes too long to download an 18GB file? How do you propose they get that data to your PC?

I’m not sure how an Alternate download site would help this as the bottle-kneck is likely your personal connection, not the Anet servers (unless a new patch just released….that can certainly slow down the download servers).

Even with a 3 mbps connection it’s like 18 hrs to download the game. Honestly, that’s not too awful. Really, I see the issue being that the game doesn’t always saturate your connection when patching (or at least for me personally. I get like half the speed I can).

That being said, I can’t really comment on the issue where it just stops patching because I’ve never experienced it myself.

I seem to recall installing GW2 on my laptop at work (10Mb connection…it was after office hours) and it took about 5 hours to complete. Thus my statement that I don’t think the GW2 servers are the limiting factors in most case (they are pretty good at supplying the data). Of course, there are PLENTY of other potential bandwidth limiting factors when downloading large hunks of data over the public internet and it’s likely that most ISPs (especially if a consumer / residential connection) would start throttling you after a few hours of constant download anyway.

I wish I had 10gb connection. its just the most basic cable at 768k. I can dl 4gb or so a day thru my internet download manager so that would still be faster than what im experiencing with Anets servers. ive forwarded ports done the msconfig to turn off processes. so now my only real hope is that I can get a dl link from Sobe

Well I thought I’d have it for you ready to go after class but it appears the transfer stopped on my primary pc, something happened to the fiber hub I’m connected through, according to the company. They said it looks like someone was cutting wires :/ They said everything should be back to normal later tonight, but until I get my 100Mbit fiber back up, I’m on the “backup” 10Mbit DSL :/

When that gets sorted, I’ll post here with the link, just keep an eye out. It’s only a 30minute upload, I just need meh net back.

30 minutes for him to upload it. You’re looking at a solid 60-70 hours or so to download, maybe (and probably) more, especially if you’re only getting 4 gb/day or so instead of your full speed.

For me to upload, I run 100Mbit down / 100Mbit up fiber as my primary. So for me 25~ minutes to upload, for you to download, if I calculated right, 56 hours assuming you run it non-stop and are able to download at full speed.
