Q:
Hey guys, here’s an interesting problem I’ve come across, when playing the game using my G930 wireless headphones, the game sound effects only play from the right ear, while the music still plays in Stereo.
Playing the game using a 5.1 speaker set, no problem, everything plays as I would expect it to.
The only other problem I’ve had with these headphones was related to an Adobe Flash bug that made the left ear quiet, though I would be surprised to find if these two issues were linked at all (the latest Adobe update seems to have solved this problem anyway)
I’ve updated the Logitech drivers, made sure the Logitech gaming software as well as GW2 are running as Administrator.
I’ve also tried using standard headphones, cannot emulate the problem with those and I don’t have another USB headphone set to try and see if it’s a problem there.
The one thing I can find is that the G930 Headphones, under device properties default to 16bit, 48000Hz, where as my standard speaker set, using a Realtek AC97 onboard chip default to 24bit, 44100Hz.
System I’m running on is Vista Business x64
Thanks for any advice in getting this working

I have a pair of G930 as well, this is a general issue with the channels on the headphones, not just GW2 but many other games suffer from this problem with the G930.
I generally use the 7.1 which eliminates the problem, I think it’s a incompatibility issue with Windows Vista/7 sound drivers and the logitech driver :/

I have the same issue with my Logitech G35 headset (basically the same as the G930 except it’s wired, not wireless).
Put simply – whenever my headset is in ‘stereo’ mode, the music and ambient (in-world) dialogue plays fine. However, sound effects and dialogue from cutscenes only comes out of the right ear.
When set to ‘surround sound’ mode, voices (and some sound effects – ie the Shatterer’s sound effects) can occasionally make a ‘clipping’ sound – as though they are clipping the speakers.
This is very problematic and frustrating for me. I am not sure what causes this problem, however I would welcome any assistance/advice from any other players (or ArenaNet tech support) to help get my sound working.

This is still the java related problem as far as I’m concerned. Didn’t happen at the beginning then a Java patch screwed it up till today.
Latest patch didn’t fix it at all. I have the same problem in several games it’s either 7.1 or I can barely hear any sounds from the left speaker. You can solve the situation temporarily if you look on google but don’t bother with it as on your next windows restart it will come back.
Let’s hope either Logitech or Adobe fix this quick.

are you sure no sound whatsoever is coming out of your left speaker or is it just so low you can barely hear it?
I think the clipping you experience (I have it as well) is more related to performance issues than to the speakers . Only have that problem in GW2.

I have the exact same problem with my Logitech G930. Hope this will be fixed soon!

Okay, I seem to have a fix for this. This is for Windows Vista, can’t imagine it’s that different on 7 or 8.
Warning: If you do this, please write down the default settings you’ve changed so you can easily reset them if this causes any strange behaviour.
Part one
Part two
Load up GW2 and try again, I can’t hear any form of distortion, or loss of fidelity in the sound, and the 7.1 surround emulation works fine.
Please let me know if this solves your problem, or causes any others and I’ll flag this post as answered so it may help out others.

I have this exact issue as well. To reaffirm, the music and ambient environmental FX play just fine. The problem are the positional action FX (such as throwing an Axe) or Positional AOE effects at the center of the character (i.e. an earth elemental casting their ground shake under your feet) all play in the right ear; not the center. This creates a very awkward disbalance.
Also it appears the pulsing sound from waypoints and quest announcer voices are right-ear only as well (which is very odd given the waypoints; even if you run around them, the pulsing stays in the right ear).
The only problem i see with this “fix” is it doesn’t act as true 7.1. The G930 has positional speakers built into the headset and when you run a true 7.1 speaker test, you can hear the sounds based on position. By activating the above approach, it seems to blend the sounds into more of a stereo solution than anything else, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a 7.1 headset. Any other options here?

I just got off the phone with Logitech and they said this is an issue with Guild Wars 2 (and I also have similar problems with Borderlands 2) where the products aren’t completely compatible with the G930 headset 7.1 system. They said it’s up to the developers to fix this issue.

Legend Speaker Setup:
2.0 : Stereo (Left/Right)
5.1 : Center; Right-Left/FrontSide; Right-Left/Rear; Bass
7.1 : Center; Right-Left/FrontSide; Right-Left/Rear; Right-Left/Side; Bass
There is a problem with those “hardware switches” on headsets which switch between stereo and 5.1/7.1 speaker mode.
The problem is, that the switch will only enable/disable the speakers in your headset, but will not give the info to your Operating System.
some details:
If you configured your OS to process sound as a 5.1 or 7.1 sound source, the sound gap you experience in games is only natural, because games use the settings in the OS and/or soundcard-config-tool.
Therefore, sound programmer who really know their job will grab the info out of the available sound channels in the OS config., which in turn may get the info from the soundcard tool.
Because a game´s sound can be produced dynamically, it will act according to your sound setup, splitting up the different sound sources , whereas a sound source like a video or music file has its output format fixed, and normally comes in stereo. This stereo sound may or may not be virtually transformed into 5.1 or 7.1.
How it is:
In a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup, dialogues are played through the Center Speaker. If you hardware-disable the speakers on your headset (switch to stereo mode), there is no Center Speaker available anymore, though the game still tries to output the dialoge and some other center effects through this speaker.
You experience a sound gap!
You´ll only hear the dialogue, if you move your camera so that the dialogue source is right or left of your characters position, because that is the only speakers left working in stereo mode.
This is not a soundbug of the game, this is a problem with the headsets not reporting the pressing of the hardware-switch to the OS and thereby changing the channels to 2 channel audio.
How to fix:
Just change the channels of soundcard config-tool to 2 channel
or
Just change the speaker config in soundcard config-tool to 2.0
or
Just change the Windows Soundconfig to stereo mode
if you plan to play a game with good sound programming in stereo mode.
As long as the hardware of the headsets does not speak to the OS, there is no other way to get rid of the sound gap.

OK folks, here’s the scoop. My 2nd G930 headset arrived today. Works flawlessly with 7.1 enabled. I plug in the other G930. Sound issues between right and left. This means it’s a physical hardware defect in the unit (either in the speakers or in the wireless translation).
In other words I can confirm behavior of some channels playing only on one side (when they should be both) is a defect, not a driver or configuration issue. Since others have reported this problem my guess is a few folks have defective units but don’t realize it because music 7.1 speaker configuration, etc. all work just fine. Go figure.

Can anyone else verify that a new G930 headset resolved their issue. Just picked up a headset and getting the missing sounds in the left earphone. I have a g35 headset that works fine. Setting my headset to stereo mode is not a solution.

i have had this issue also, i resolved it by opening up the G930 software and turning on the Advanced equalizer, also make sure your surround sound switch on the headset is in the correct position.
i now have another issue though, when in large WvW battles, the sound will cut out all together and will go into a humming mode, its as if the headset is protecting itself from overload or something, it even caused the game to crash in the middle of an epic WvW battle, and of course you dont load back into WvW and i had to wait a good 20 minutes to get back in. Very frustrating. So hopefully there will be a fix for this. We may have to bite the bullet and buy new headsets.

Salvator your second issue is not related to the headset. theres another thread on that bug. i call it Woo Woo sound bug. if your sound is at highest quality it will do that, lower it down a notch. As for the G930 issue being one sided. I have nothing new to add other than I picked up a New G930 and still have this issue!

This worked for me, enjoying perfect sound now in GW2 on my G930
Credits go to JJohannson @tested.com
But there is still a permanent solution until you switch USB ports… (If so, then simply configure it again)
Assuming you are running Windows 7, (should work in most other Win OS’s):
Open your control panel and start up sound.
Find the G930 device, highlight it and choose configure.
For me, the only Audio channel available was 7.1 surround. Choose that or something similar and click next.
Untick side pair and rear pair and click next. (You should only have Center and Subwoofer ticked now)
Full-range speakers should be the only option ticked. If not make sure it is. Click next.
Click finish.
Restart any applications that you have been having issues with.
You should now be enjoying proper stereo. This also has not effected my 7.1 surround emulation for the headset itself.
Not confirmed, but I think the problem is that Win recognizes the headset as 7.1 which it really is not. The headset only has two speakers and emulates 7.1 only. Configuring windows to treat it as such seems to do the trick. This would probably be why no one (logitech or Adobe etc etc) has done anything significant to correct the problem. Because it isn’t really their products that are the problem to begin with. It’s Windows.
Enjoy…

I have a similar problem, but with a xonar phoebus soundcard and 5.1 setup (i don’t own the logitech headset). The 5.1 channels are all messed up (music and general positionnal audio is fine, but everything else plays somwhere on the left side) and when i get something playable some sounds still come from the wrong speakers…

I know i might be late for this fix or that it has been sooo soooooo long since this issue was posted but i found a solution for my problem with the G930 which was stuttering or clipping at low volumes using the 7.1 option.
I followed almost every solution here and nothing seemed to work for me, what i did found out was that when i used the steps by Balestar.3204 ..my problem was worse .. the stuttering or clipping was continuous, so i did the oposite .. this are my steps in Windows 8.1 x64:
1 – Right-click the speaker icon on the system tray and select playback devices.
2 – Select your Logitech G930 device, righ-click on it and select Configure Speakers.
3 – Select 7.1 hit next, make sure ALL speakers are selected and hit next, then make sure ALL speakers are selected as FULL RANGE speakers and hit next then finish.
4 – Right-click on your G930 device again and select Properties.
5 – Go to the Enhancements Tab and select []Disable all enhancements and then hit Apply.
This instantaneously fixed my problem i didn’t had to restart Gw2 or anything .. it just went mute for .5s and then all was normal .. 7.1 and Stereo working great.
Best Wishes!!! .. see you online

for the record, prior to doing this is had popping / static coming from all sounds while gw2 was running if the g930 was in surround sound mode.
i corrected this issue on my g930 by going to the above menu and setting the following:
(Sound > g930 > Configure > 7.1 > turn on every speaker > turn on every checkbox > finish)
then
(Sound > g930 > Properties > enable speaker fill + enable loudness equalization).
best of luck.

Guys, there’s a much easier solution to this that doesn’t involve changing around any of those settings (except to actually re-enable them after you do what I did).
I had the same exact problem in just about every game with the surround sound, and the solution was to uninstall the Logitech Gaming Software, and download and install an older version. It takes a bit more afterward to get the audio working just right, but it completely fixes all 7.1 surround sound anomalies.
1. Download this driver: ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/gaming/lgs840_x64.exe if you have a 64-bit Windows, or ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/gaming/lgs840.exe if you have a 32-bit Windows
2. Uninstall Logitech Gaming Software
3. Install the one you just downloaded
4. Once everything is up and running, open LGS and go to the surround sound panel, enable surround sound on your headphones, and turn each volume setting down to 10 (If you don’t do this, there will be MASSIVE bass distortion with surround sound active)
5. Turn surround sound back off, then go to the volume control panel and click the arrow button on the bottom right that says “Show advanced equalizer”, then set the preamp to 2. Now you’re done with the LGS config, so you can close it.
6. Right click on the volume icon in your taskbar, then click Playback devices
7. Select the headset from the list, and click Configure
8. Click next, and you might or might not find that some of the options are unchecked. Make sure that ALL of them are CHECKED.
9. Click next again and again make sure all options are checked.
10. Then click next, and finish.
That’s it! I followed these steps exactly and now my sound is absolutely perfect on my G930 headset. One last thing to note: You may have to adjust your volume in the LGS panel from 98 to 100 every so often, especially after a reboot. I have no idea why it constantly resets to 98, but the difference in volume is noticeable enough that you should be able to tell when it happens, and fix it.

it completely fixes all 7.1 surround sound anomalies.
This thread is over 2 years old but the issues are still very much current.
I just wanted to +1 Goatroth’s posts because IT COMPLETELY SOLVED MY PROBLEM. I tried a few other people’s ideas but it seem to default to the same problem or I had to fiddle the settings again to get it to work after i restart computer.
Just make sure Logitech Gaming Software is active in the background when you play and you will have no issues.
Thanks Goatroth.

By the way the fix for me was to ensure the Logitech Gaming Software is running. Now my G430 headset works brilliantly and all sound effects aren’t only on the right side anymore.
I am running Logitech Gaming Software version 8.58.183 on Windows 10.
Hope this helps other wayfarers
