Hello, i was downloading the new patches for guildwars 2 and i was only 150,000 files and then my computer crashed and now im back up to 215,000 files. why?, is there anyway i can get back to that level of files downloaded or would i have to redownload all them files again. thanks.

Currently, the Guild Wars 2 download application will resume file downloads. However, there seems to be a bit of confusion as to how it does that. When the download is stopped for any reason, you need to close and restart the launcher. When you do this, the application will scan the already downloaded files to make sure they are intact. Once the files are scanned, the download continues. The confusion comes from how the “scan” appears in the launcher. When this process is taking place it will look like it is downloading the files again, complete with “download speeds.” However, if you notice the download speed, it should be much faster than your Internet connection. This is because the launcher isn’t actually downloading the files from the Internet but is instead, scanning the files inside the GW2.dat file. Once the scan completes, the download resumes and your actual bandwidth is used.

That being said, if you experienced a power outage or a full on crash during the update, it is very likely you will need to re-download these files.

well my computer completely crashed, i tried Ctrl + Alt + Del and nothing happend. is there anyway i would be able to stop my pc from crashing?

Hi Dean – does it only crash when you are updating or does it crash when you are in game as well? How long have you been experiencing this crash issue? Also, do you get any specific error message at all when you crash?

well i’ve only just brought the game, so im downloading all the files and patches, so i havent even got into the game yet. This has happend twice to me now.

Okay I see so you’re crashing during the initial installation process. Has your computer experienced crash issues before attempting to install Guild Wars 2 for instance if you were playing other games?

Also, if you’re crashing during installation, do you get a specific error message at all?

no i’ve had no other issues installing on other game not even on guildwars 1, also i do not get any specific error message.

I have your report and you should be able to delete your comment. As an alternative, have you submitted a support ticket yet? If not I would highly recommend creating a support ticket so that we can address your issue one on one because some of the steps that we may ask you to try or diagnostic information we may need to ask for we do not necessarily want to post publicly.
